  1. I was refering to doing great in the idea of turning a profit. I'm sorry you had such a shitty experience.
  2. I'm not sure which time your refering to camelback closing due to freezing rain but when I was a lift operator I showed up on one of those nights although I believe it was 2 seasons ago. The mountain was insanly sketchy I had to sit at the top of the meadows lift and watch the chairs spin so the cable would not freeze and derail upon starting the next day. It was incredibly dangerous all I could hear was the cracking of tree limbs falling all over the woods and trails due to the thick ice that encased them, you could not even walk on a trail if you fell there would be no getting up you would slide to the bottom on your back if you didn't smack a tree on your way down first. I watched 2 snowmobiles flip that night, it would have been a death trap if we opened to the public. Every mountain is struggling to stay open at this point in this season, the weather says it all. We've had some bare spots showing sunday and with a full night of constant down pour I'm sure those bare spots got a bit worse as well as new ones forming. It wasn't simply raining a little this morning making them deicid to not open this is a different situation. Mountain Creek closed, Beer Creek closed awhile ago, Blue is closing early. No one rain storm does not wipe out all the snow but it puts a nasty dent on the little snow the mountains have considering the weather. I think this weather is making us snow freaks all go a little crazy. I'm sorry but the current owner is doing great you should have seen how ridiculasly packed our parking lots were this holiday week even though I personally prefer the mountain not being so crowded for the times I get to go ride myself. Like Luke said and I totally agree a ski resort is a business and if it can't make a profit it's not going to run. What business wants to loose money? If a business continually looses money it wont exists anymore.
  3. Oh so correct. In fact there were a couple days that we had to turn down customers and stop selling tickets because the mountain was so full. Papasteeze snow making is a 24 hour operation. Our day shift works from 8am-8pm with the exception that we wont be able to make snow due to weather and our night shift works from 8pm-8am. If night shift comes in and we don't get temps to make snow until 2am guess what, night shift stays and moves guns around and other misc work until 2am and than we fire up.
  4. You my friend are a genious I don't see why other people don't understand this concept lol.
  5. I don't know. I'm dissapointed myself I could go up to CB for a few runs since I have the day off but I totally understand them for choosing not to open today.
  6. You can't see many ground guns from northridge unless they are shooting up. We are trying to make snotters. We don't run the large tower guns, HKD's, Vikings, etc etc that you would normally see from Northridge its to warm. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
  7. I can't believe this weather. weather.com and accuweather.com's 10 and 15 day extended forecast show nothing good at all up to Jan 15th. Some nights of marginal snow making temperatures at night and everyother day far to warm. Will it ever get cold before spring?
  8. People can ski around bare spots but opening would only result in those people complaining about how shitty the conditions were and regretting spending their money many of which would cry bitch and moan about refunds. Yes I do agree though it does totally suck for the employees but I'm sure most of them are hung over as hell anyway and greatful for new years day off lol.
  9. Yes CB loves to fuck over their passholders. It has nothing to do with 6 hours of rain and barespots everywhere. Its just because we like to spite our loyal customers.
  10. Where do you get this information lol? We're making snow every chance we get with the exception of christmas. I'm sorry if our guys had off for the holiday to spent some time with their children and families one day of marginal temps lol. We're in every way possible trying to make as much snow as possible. We've even been letting the guns the night shift lit run until almost 10pm until we absolutly have to shut them down because of humidity and or temps. I deicided to stay with the snow making team rather than go back to lifts and theres nothing more we want to do than make snow.
  11. Hey motoxpete, I feel your pain I had a Burton Custom stolen from camelback about 4 years ago 2 weeks after I bought it in under 45 seconds. I put it down ran inside the door to the soda machine on the other side put my money it grabbed my soda and ran back out to a stolen board. If it helps at all I have an old board and bindings setup im trying to get rid of cheap for $50 I only rode it one season before I upgraded I mainly bought it just to get back on the snow after having lost such an expensive board a few years earlier and quitting for a couple seasons. Its a Rossignol Prowler with some K2 bindings on it, one binding might need a new toe strap I think I remember it slipping on me once but let me know if your interested.
  12. We definatly wont be 100% open this season unless this weather totally changes. We need a good at the least 15 day stretch of 24 hour snowmaking.
  13. All those great big new snow guns they ordered can't do them squat with weather like this, they made a big mistake or at least the weather totally screwed them. THe guns they purchased are not made for making snow in marginal temperatures as we've had all winter so don't expect them to make much snow unless its near 26 degrees.
  14. I haven't been up to VT yet this season but I don't understand how Killington has 40+ trails open and Jay Peak and Stowe have 9 and 12 trails open and they're further north. What is Killington's magic besides money? Has anyone been there recently, hows the conditions?
  15. Yes, the flat down flat and the up flat are fairly wide but the straight rail in the center is much narrower. Camelback seems to like things wide but I have no complaints with that
  16. Anytime, keep the faith papa!
  17. Heres a few of the "new" ones currently sitting at the top of the rhodo waiting for snow. Merry Christmas, I hope your impressed. I can't wait to hit them.
  18. I would work on your slides on a flat box until you feel comfortable sliding before trying a kinked box. Black Jacket, Black Pants, Black Burton Seven with a red base. I counted 14 cars in the parking lot including mine lol.
  19. Ouch how did that happen? I was loving it accept towards the end of the night the landing got so bumpy it was ridiculas.
  20. Went to blue for the first time today, the snow was great was like spring boarding I was impressed with the mountain and the 6 seater rocks. All in all a great night. We spent most of the night in the park though they have it setup as follows for anyone interested. Small Gap on Battle Ship Box Butter Box Tabletop Big Gap on Flat Box Small Gap on Flat Box
  21. My friend and I got bored so we went to home depot and found this piece of desktop like wood with a white coating on top of it and threw together this box in 10 min to ice sesh with 140lbs of crushed ice cubes. Unfortunatly one of the legs and a piece of the cheap scrap 2x4 cracked off at the end of the night. I'm the one in the tan pants. 11/26/06 http://home.ptd.net/~luka/iceboard.wmv
  22. Great time today for only having one mid station trail to ride. I spent all day on the trail the rail park look packed most of the day. I was the guy in all black w/ a black burton seven if anyone noticed.
  23. Anyone who was at Bellayre today find out any information on if they're going to have more trails open tomarrow?
