  2. obviously I didn't actually mean I would actually rather ride at MC rather than anywhere in UT, but the point was that in both trips to the canyons, the snow quality has been poor (actually genuinely east coast icey last time) and the whole overdevelopment thing is just horrible. 9990 was OK but under those conditions even that was sketchy, the same trip we had decent conditions at Brighton, Powder and Snowbird so it wasn't like the general area was suffering.
  3. I'd rater ski/ride at mountain creek than go back to the canyons, been twice (just to give it a fair crack), both times wished I'd gone to ANY of the other UT resorts.
  4. Taking up boarding will help for a while, unless you have a hard time with the first days in which case you will just be more depressed. I know exactly how you feel though, last year when I came back from Utah in early march I was checking the snowfall at snowbird almost everyday and trying to justify going back out there. I finally caved and went back, but that just made things worse because it just got better. So now I moved to CA and can ski those mountains / conditions every trip, but every trip has become usually every other weekend. That said, we usually ski open to close (which we never did at CB)and there is just so much more interesting stuff to do, the trails are just a means to get to the more interesting stuff. I know this doesn't help, but just wanted you to know that (as with others here), the feeling is widely felt after such trips. The only answer is relocation, which I highly recommend by the way, I'm sitting on my deck in sunshine typing this and they just picked up 2 feet in the mountains, blue skies forcast for the weekend. Hope you all get to enjoy the snow after the storm, and remember that a small mountain is better than none at all.
  5. If you can get to Blue in the week I would go there. It was a few years ago now but they did a great job with my 4 year old with morning lessons mid-week.
  6. Not many of the Tahoe resorts seem to post year to date totals, but I'm going to say "lots" Back to A-meadows this weekend, snow in the forecast, just got back from a 15 mile bike ride in 65 degree sunshine. This place is nuts.
  7. There's still time this year....
  8. Looks nice, I miss camelback (a bit)when I see pic's like that.
  9. If it's actually snowing and they have some kind of winter storm warning, I would bet on the quads being closed and pretty much the only lift running will be the slow double beside the sullivan. Many times over the last few years I have rushed up there in a snow "storm" only to be completely depressed by the sight of all the quad chairs stacked up in the base. Sad, but true, if you want the chance to actually ride / ski while the snow is still hammering down then find somewhere else. And I'm not a CB hater, I was a season pass holder for 5 years and realy enjoyed my time there.
  10. I give it less than a month before you are going nuts trying to work out a return trip before the end of the season.
  11. I would agree entirely that if you actually need to buy anything other than ex-rental ski's or peripheral crap like lip-balm and gloves you should go somewhere else. But if you just need your stuff waxed/tuned, rentals or cheap tickets, they are very convenient and it's pretty much a straight shot from Canyon in Sandy up to LCC. Plus, with the area around automall drive there is no shortage of restaurants and a huge target that sells beer & wine. If you get the chance, go to the seafood restaurant on the other side of the interstate from automall (and a little south), I think it's called the market street grill. Don't go to Carvers steak house despite the fact that it's very close. It's expensive, which would be OK except the service and food are both second rate.
  12. The hotel you first gave an address for is fine, and it's right behind the sandy Canyon sports store so get a cheap car and chains. Just FYI, on my first trip to SLC (doing pretty much what you are now, but staying in what was the comfort suites, now Hoiday Inn I think) I rented a compact from Budget, having declined their kind offer to upgrade to something better suited to the snowboard bag I was dragging behind me, we went to the lot where they gave me an SUV 'cos it's pretty much all they had. Luck of the draw I guess. Waiting for a bus sucks
  13. Do you think that might reflect on your "popularity" on here Doug? Why are people fascinated by train wrecks and natural disasters? PC, it does need more pictures.....not many other people here are likely to take the risk on Tahoe over UT/CO despite the el nino year favoring our resorts (I was riding on a 139" base last weekend and the CA reorts are close to 300" for the year already), so the main appeal of the TR's is just to see something different.
  14. No one cares about lockers, most people like looking at trip reports and pictures especially from less common places. I will keep posting TR's from tahoe this year, I know they are not relevant to 98% of the viewers but I hope it encourages more people to branch out a little. Post more pic's, I cant use FB from work.... it's verboten (not sure if this spelling is correct)
  15. They open in plenty of time to get up the LCC/BCC for first lifts, even if you stop for breakfast. The ticket discounts are worth the effort, but then we usually stay in sandy within a few hundred yards of canyon anyway so no real hassle to go there on the way.
  16. If you're staying in downtown SLC, drop them off at Canyon Sports in the evening, pick them up in the morning along with your discount lift tickets, no brainer IMHO. Google search on Canyon Sports and SLC, should find it no problem, they have stores in Sandy and Downtown.
  17. have them done when you get there, you will at least ensure you get the right wax for the conditions. If you are in SLC, canyon sports would be an option, I used them for my board last time I was out there and they did a decent job overnight.
  18. Hi All, Just to help the Tahoe economy recover after Phillycore's departure, my Son and I left the ladies at home and headed up to the mountains for a day at Sugarbowl. We arrived for first lifts, with no new snow claimed or visible we were looking forward to a day of nice groomers and sunny weather, so starting at the Judah lodge we worked our way across the mountain from the Judah lift all the way across to the far side in the "strawberry" area, via the Lincoln and Disney peaks. Disney was best early on with the sun hitting it full on in the early morning, with the run in the first picture probably the best groomer, but as soon as we had done this we discovered that the snow off to the sides hadn't frozen up and was easily ski/ride-able. From that point we did very few other marked runs all day, having a great time buzzing down off of mainly disney and lincoln peaks. The lift lines were pretty decent (mostly short) and the weather stayed beautiful all day. We quit a little after 2 as after 16 runs (nearly all off trail) my nine-year-old had nothing left in his legs. Here's a few pic's, if you are ever in the Tahoe area, don't overlook Sugarbowl, it consistently get the most snow and has terrain from mild to downright nasty (check the website / trail map and look to skiers left of lincoln). Another great Cali day. best groomer of the day, one of very few as it turned out Lucas enjoying some powder View from the top Last run of the day, head straight for the lodge
  19. or because quite a few of the CB passholders have moved on. back to the original post, have they recently changed the trail ratings on the run-outs from the front four or were they always "black"? If they have changed it to make the hill seem more "expert" from % trail counts then that's really lame.
  20. Hey, this is california, this saturday I will be mountain biking in the morning then driving to Tahoe to ski knee deep (or deeper) powder. That's my first -1.....
  21. I shouldn't even respond to this, do you even own a bike? oh, and -1
  22. Need some advice from the bike people on here, I am very pleased with my Trek 4500 as an entry level trail bike and see no real reason to trade up, but just wondered what I could do in the way of upgrades. I didn't get the disk version and based on a couple of seasons riding it, the only things I would be looking for is reducing weight and maybe a more sophisticated fork. I'd also like the new bits to look good. Suggestions?
  23. pic's sooner.....
  24. Womack's is strange but great BBQ, the brisket is F'in awesome. have fun, make sure you take some runs off of the canyons express, head to your right as you are facing down hill, go through the big wooden gate and keep going until you hit the trees (not literally), then turn down hill, nice gully's and stuff to play in.
  25. Happy days dude, glad you're having fun. What's next on your itinerary? Alpine?
