  1. Yes, very seriously considering it. Me and the kids really like Frost and it's only a little further from home than CB. The lack of night skiing is the only real drawback.
  2. With CB still closed today, presumably because it's a little warm and people might perspire too much and offend their "5th Floor" customers, I have to wonder if they are looking to preserve the base with a view to the end of the season. They have piles pf snow at the top of the hil that they are not grooming out for some reason and I don't recall seeing a whole lot of pipes / guns still out when I was up at the weekend. I really hope it's not the case but I suspect they may be looking to get through to the end with the base they have now and they are closing just to keep as good as they can for presidents day weekend. I guess the new $3m, 8 slide addition to the waterpark means that they will have to close on the early side anyway so why waste money blowing "spare" snow. Looks like we're relying on mother nature to give us something now.
  3. Is it a different desk for the season pass validation? Or do you have to queue with the day ticket "crowd".
  4. I dont see anywhere on the JFBB site that says the pass is valid for the remainder of this season. Can someone confirm this?
  5. Why are they closed? The conditions page says "due to the weather" which it's reporting as 43F and sunny The accuweather forecast is for partial clouds until late afternoon and then some rain through the evening. Why would they close all day? Anyone have any info on this? Did Sno post a good reason for being closed?
  6. Thanks to all for the input and opinions Ordered a Dark Series with MTX today, should be here for the weekend
  7. I'm actually really interested in trying the banana thing, but I'm not sure the Skate 'nana is the right board for me. I'd jump at a TRS in a second, but can't find one (with BT). I'm currently looking at 3 options: 1) get a 159 skate banana just to check out the ideas (MTX and BT) 2) get a TRS or Dark Series without BT just 'cos they're great boards 3) get a Cygnus X1 and run the risk of blowing an obscene amount on a board if the BT idea doesn't work for me.
  8. "OUT OF STOCK" of every size in the skate banana and and the TRS with BT, they do have one of the non "BT" TRS's but several places have those. Thanks, I'll try them. I called the factory directly and they think everywhere is sold out. Worse, they are not planning to press any more this season. Thanks, I'd appreciate it if you could check. PM me if you find one.
  9. No, but I will. Any specific good points?
  10. A question to any of you that have actually ridden an MTX equipped board, does the extra edge hold mean you can ride a shorter effective edge? How are they in terms of weight range for a given size? As lib tech don't specifiy weight ranges for their boards it's difficult to guage the right size without a demo. I currently have a 164 ride timeless (for faster "all mountain" stuff with my friends who are mostly skiers) and a 158.5 M3 discord which was my starter board but I still use as a rock board. Neither of these seem to stiff or soft for my 190-195lb's (5'11"). I don't ride much park (some jumps but no rails etc) and don't intend to do so anytime soon so this is not a consideration, I'm looking for a smaller "freeride" board as I'm starting to feel the Timeless is a little long as I get more adventurous off of natural features and in trees, moguls etc. Any thoughts or opinions welcome,
  11. I was there Sunday evening and it was pretty bad. "Icy" (really just scraped off hardpack) on anything remotely steep, and alternating between that and piles of what used to be the surface. With the light being a little odd for my lenses I didn't really enjoy the conditions but it wasn't too busy after 5pm when I got there. It was pretty much what I expected but I hope they can groom it up and improve the conditions somewhat this week.

    Salomon Malumute

    you only have one leg?
  13. never stopped Bode....you probably just had the wrong wax....
  14. So I went with the F20's from Nestors, would have liked to have tried out the F22's or Malumutes but they don't carry anything that "high end" apparently. I also bought some salomon relay pro bindings at The Loft after a day with the new boots Anyway, some thoughts after 3 days on the snow with them: The "fitting" experience at Nestors was a bit of a let down, I didn't feel the staff really wanted to make sure they were as good as they could be, just a quick fit check and "they'll mold to your feet as you wear them" and off you go.... oh well, as long as they work out I guess this is fine. So day 1 the boots feel really comfortable and incredibly light, the most noticeable thing was the big gaps around the sides in my technine bindings, there was nearly 1/2 inch clearance at the sides, I didn't think this was a good thing but tried it out anyway with a morning run at CB. My only question mark at the moment is a certain "squeeze" around my calves, it feels like a band around the very top of the boot is too tight when turning, as the boot flexes, stood straight it feels fine. Maybe they just need to break in a little, it seems to be improving with more use. So for day 2 I decide to check out the relay pro bindings, they should be a good match fit wise with the boots and I'm intrigued by the flexible heel cup idea. These take a little getting used to, but they fit great with the boots, are very comfortable and after a few days they are starting to feel less "strange but good" and more just good. I may revert to the others for a day just to see how it feels now before I pass final judgement but overall I think I'm really liking the concept. Strangely they have made the board feel like it has a longer tail, there seems to be more grip on both edges at the rear of the board. I don't know if this is just better transfer of my movement to the edges or what but it seem to be beneficial.
  15. Nice detailed report but it sounds like the conditions were pretty bad.
  16. It never ceases to amaze me that even on the busiest days, when there can be a line an hour long at the quads, that looking up to Marjies, Rocket of Asp there will only be 3 or 4 people on the trail at a time. Now that doesn't help because you cant get there and you still have to deal with the cluster-f at the bottom where all the green and black trails funnel together back to the lift. Busy weekends are horrible, I've only ever tried to put up with it once or twice, it really isn't worth it. Not only is the traffic density that much higher but the quality of the people on the slopes takes a dive too, so there is much more chance of being wiped out by some rental retard.
  17. here's mine, Craig seems to have gone very quiet lately. Conditions on the eastside were excellent this morning, Nile, Cliffy Pharaoh, Raceway all in lovely groomed condition, a few signs of "ice" poking through on the headwall of cliffy but generally very nice. The smaller green runs through the middle were quite hard, not really icy but a bit like riding at Blue Mountain. The "front four" diamonds were all pretty good, marjies has just re-opened and has the freshest surface, rocket OK, Hump quite nice, IMO Asp needs to be properly groomed now, though some skiers may enjoy the challenge. Big Pocono continues to be pretty good and dromedary was really nice, fast and smooth. I didn't try Tut's but I know they've blown snow on it recently so it's probably pretty good, I didn'y go to Birches or the small park. The big park and pipe are still closed but it looks like they may be good to go very soon. Conditions for the weekend should be pretty good, shame about the crowds. I'll be at CB tomorrow AM for a couple of hours, then JF Saturday & somewhere else Sunday.
  18. As someone who's had both my kids in both group and private lessons at CB I would offer the following: 1) this weekend in particular go somewhere other than CB if you want instruction. The system at CB is such that you won't even know if you can have a private lesson (or when) until about 10 minutes before it would start. They fill up their (higher earning) group lessons first and then let the "left over" instructors do private. On a busy day it's very hard to get a private lesson and the chances of being able to pick and instructor are even lower. 2) private lessons at CB are much better than group lessons if you can get one. 3) My son's favorite instructor (of 4 tried) was a lady called Toni. 4) CB will be horribly crowded this weekend anyway so not a good place to learn anything other than how to stand in a lift line.
  19. I'll be there from 8.30 to 10 or so. I'll be the one wobbling around trying to get used to my new bindings, the salomon "relays". First day out today and they are certainly a little different compared to the feel of a conventional binding.
  20. I'm planning to be there first thing, probably only for 1 1/2 to 2 hours as I'm supposed to be working.
  21. Normally that would be "guilty as charged", but as a second class pass holder I'm actually blacked out at CB this weekend. I'll be at JF, Blue or Sno on Saturday morning and Elk on Sunday.
  22. Monday will be least crowded because not everyone gets the day off. By 11am on Sunday the liftlines will be horrendous, I've never been on a MLK saturday but I imagine it would be even worse. If you really want to spend time skiing rather than standing around, go to Shawnee or JF instead.
  23. I find it hard to believe that anyone could go to snowbird and come away thinking it doesn't compare to somewhere like JH. Absolute vertical doesn't mean much once you are over 2-3k. You might like one more than the other but it's got to be comparable. That said, looking at Toast's pic's it's difficult to understand how you can come away from a trip to JH this week and not be very enthused.
  24. Thanks. They claim to have done something about the strap slipping. Do you know how the XLT or Thruster are different / better than the Pro?
  25. I've searched all over the place and can't find a TRS with the "banana" only the normally cambered MTX (they make both still, everywhere has the "normal" TRS MTX).
