  1. I wont be rushing up to pick up my season pass then.... Might have to spend a few days at JFBB or trekking up north before the guns fire up. Looking forward to some great conditions in late December, hopefully the weather will be much kinder than last year.
  2. December 5th @ 10.20pm About a month later than Boulder
  3. if they blow a ton of snow now and open one slope then they are nuts, but you have to love that attitude I wish CB had that kind of commitment even if it makes no business sense.
  4. Has to be altitude, at least Sugar mtn has a 4k base elevation. The temps reported on the other one are in the teens at night.
  5. It looks like they've done a huge amount of work on that trail this year, it looks so different from the last time I was at Blue, much wider and completely re-graded. It seems such a shame that they cant go the last mile and get the guns in, is it really that much more work (Sno seem to be managing). Another trail like this would add some much needed variety to Blue.
  6. Doesn't matter what you say regarding CB, they will open when they are ready (commercially) so there's no "jinxing" to worry about. Last year (and every other year) we all had this "when will they blow" thing going on, but I've just come to realise that CB will be ready when they are ready and that may not be until Christmas. I'm looking elsewhere for first turns of the year and my CB season pass is just a money saver on the tickets that I would buy simply because they are close. Expect less, it's the only way they wont disappoint.
  7. That's very cool 4 more weeks and we'll be charging down 'Tut's
  8. less drugs for the little ones please....
  9. I guess the season pass pays for itself quicker if they dont give a student discount on tickets..... It's strange that they dont though, puts them on a par with the "evil empire" at CB. At least they have an "all days" student pass though, it seems CB only offers the sunday-friday version.
  10. then why do you go? It's not exactly somewhere I'd like to go for any reason other than riding. Me and (2 of) my kids will be there a lot this winter, mostly sundays but hoping to get a lot more evenings in this year and maybe a few early morning "quickies" on the way to the office.
  11. Got a set of oakley crowbars, black with HI yellow lenses for $50 at the loft last weekend, they have their usual 50% off all last years stuff sale going on, but it's 50% off the lowest marked price so if any of it was marked down at all towards the end of last season, it's even better as was with my goggles ($125 MSRP, $99 "sale" ticket price + 50% off).
  12. Are you claiming to be the claimer? For what it's worth, I wouldn't have picked you for Knuckledragger's mystery claimer, but maybe he knows you.
  13. It's hard to be critical of a 13 year old that can do that, but being completely objective compared to other vid's I've seen: The editing wasn't bad for a first "release" He still looks like he's trying too hard, content over style. That's all I got, he is one amazing young skier.
  14. It helps you get good service next time you go. Despite the fact that I only go in occasionally, they remember my name, always have my board ready when I want it and when my binding broke they fixed it for free so I think it pays off in the long run. Do people tip you for delivering headstones?
  15. I get my board tuned at the CB shop 2 or 3 times a year and they do a great job, Mark seems to be the pivotal factor in this so I hope their new part time technician knows his way around too. Last year with a season pass discount, a full hot-wax & edge was under $20 (+ tip) so for me the seasonal cost seems high, but then if it covered as many boards/skis as I could bring in (including my back-up stick and my kids' stuff) then maybe it would be worth it. Anyway, bottom line is they do good work and they do not seem overly expensive (to me).
  16. She's too hot to be a dude Your point is valid though, a sunday-friday pass is weak. I wonder if that's now across all the employees or if most still get unlimited passes.
  17. A full hot wax and edge less than $25 at CB anyway, the "quick tune" is even cheaper. As a season pass holder (gets you a % discount at the repair/tune shop) a full tune comes out at around $18 for a board. The Loft voucher is $20 off of $100, $45 off of $200.
  18. I've not made it to Elk yet, but if the snow is worse than Blue's then I'm never going Blues snowmaking should be sponsored by Chips Ahoy, or Pepperidge Farm.

    Bode update

Ever seen Danny Kass interviewed? I think particularly with the X-games there is no choice to make. Winning X-games gold is the key to better sponsorship & more cash, it's not about being recognised as best by your peers. Sean White is the poster child for big money endorsements, though unlike many of the snowboard contenders, he does seem very grounded and is managing his fame / career very well.

    Bode update

Not normally one to step into the breach when DH and Ski are "discussing" but I have to say that my view on this leans towards DH. Of all the inteviews with snowboarders I've seen at / after the X-Games / Olympics (we're talking about freestyle events here not boardercross etc), it all seems to be about self promotion rather than the prize itself. There's never any talk about technical excellence and some of the riders have even said they dont really like to compete but would rather be filming in the BC but they do it anyway. It seems to me to be very different from the skiing world where from an early age a kid may be drilled through race teams with the ultimate goal of olympic glory, like any other sport, maybe it's because at the "grass roots" level, snowboarding is not really considered a sport as such?
  21. At last, someone with worse spelling than (VT)Mark.
  22. Yep, that's the one. Haven't seen the purple skier one yet, does he have a purple helmet?
  23. On my way to work this morning I saw the new CB advertising on the 33/78 junction with the slogan "It's all about the ride", obviously showing a continuation of the trend towards an all snowboard mountain, with a heavy emphasis on the best terrain parks in the East.... Nice poster though, looks like something from JC Penney
