depends on the grade of the waterproofing, and how well it's taken care of. Goretex lasts for years. And i think it's rated at 70,000-80,000 mm.
There are many different grades of gore-tex, it's just a brand name for a range of fabrics with a waterproof breathable membrane. I don't think I've ever seen anyone claiming 70k+ waterproofing. The best fabrics seem to top out at around 30k.
Interestingly there is not one mention of this type of rating for any of the fabrics on the gore-tex site.

If you're going to use a shop to do the fitting for you then buy the damn boots
Anyway, if you only save 10% by going to gayskiersareus.com (it's just something about the "proctorjones" name that gets me) then you might aswell just buy them at the local store.
I'm all for online shopping, and have bought most of my gear online, but:
1) boots needs to fit right.
2) dont take (unfair) advantage of the stores we have left, one day you will need them.
3) if you can only save 10% online, you need to try harder.

But blowing at night when you can, to increase the base for an extended season, easy..
Secondary benefit of this being that you have fresh base more often during the "normal" season rather than re-grooming the same slush all the time.

Aren't you just putting a $100 value on the scam.
Presumably the pass will be limited to 1 ticket per day or you will be opening yourself up to all sorts of fraudulent behaviour.

Am I the only one who thinks this is an odd plan?
Oak grove is small, flat and very enclosed, not exactly the environment for people to congrgate around a pipe. Is 11' much bigger than the existing pipe?
Rhodo doesn't look from the pictures to have been widened by anything like 70ft, but those of you that went up there would have a better perspective on that.
I think if they are going to focus that area on the park progression they should re-direct some of the other trails (like near east) so that they do not run green circle trails into the top of the park and pipe designated runs. Let the park peep's use that centre lift, this would also stop the inevitable clash between 1000 noobs coming down from the quad and a bunch of park rats using 'ceasers as a warm up run for the park.
Oh well, at least it's progression and commitment, let's hope they have the people to run it properly.

i've never worn a helmet snowboarding, but i've been thinking and it may not be a bad idea...i never had anything against them, just never tried one
That was pretty much how I felt before last year, but pressure from my kids (and a little common sense) tipped me over the edge to buy one.
I found out that a) they can save your life, or at least a medi-vac ride, b.) they are much better than a hat when it rains and c) you get used to wearing it really quickly.
I wore mine every time out last year, and "used" it 3 times, once my fault, twice otherwise. Only one of these was really serious (the one that was my fault
) but all of them would probably have sent me home for the day. -

Ride SPi's

they have the convertable toe strap
the technine cap strap is not convertible, it only goes over the toes, although there is a certain amount of choice as to how far over you push it, they are too "cupped" to go over the top of the foot.
The convertible toe-strap is what Ride's have, and they work very well as either conventional or cap straps.
I bought ride's last year to go with my new Ride board (timeless) but ended up swapping to my old technine pro's because they just fit and feel better (odd given that I have Ride boots too). The "Rides" are now on my older M3 and are still a good binding, I guess it's just personal preference.
The new Ride range (RX, CAD, Movement etc) look so cool I might just have to make a pointless purchase.
Anyone interested in MFM solos should look online for last years "team" or "pro" models, the solo is a cheaper model selling by it's association with MFM. There are some great deals to be had on ebay.
Also, not long ago, Sierra Snowboards had SPi's for around $150.

that really makes no sense... I think id take Jackson over PC in my opinion. Less crowds, less expensive, and some of the sickest terrain in north america...
have you been to either / both?
As a young snowboarder, the only thing going against PC is the cost of living / eating there. They have terrain parks rated amonst the best in the country (world?) and enough back-country to keep all but the most god-like skier/riders happy, Jupiter bowl feels a million miles away from any touristy resort.
I can't comment on JH as I've not had the pleasure (yet) but from Doug's reports it doesn't seem like it offers the "social opportunities" you might be looking for at his age.
As for crowds, after waiting in line at CB or Blue, it will seem like paradise.

That sucks that your not going to Jackson Hole...my life would be empty if I went a season without spending several days skiing Jackson Hole...it's a part of me...
he's a snowboarder, he will love PC more than you love your Hole.

word from Ray... the new trail will not be completed this year at Blue.
That's a real shame, they could really rub CB's nose in it with more trails, a six pack, better park.....

Couldn't agree more, if you want to rack up vert, then Blue is the place, top to bottom straight runs with the most vertical feet can't be beaten.
I still think CB's problem isn't the lack of vert (although a few more feet wouldn't hurt) but rather the way they are using it. I'm sure that taking Pharaoh (sp?) into Raceway would give youy a killer run with some nice turns, wide open mid section and decent drop at the end, IMHO this would be a better use of the drop than "cliff"hanger.
I know Blue were open longer and didn't close for the ice etc, and no-one can defend CB's attitude over this, but in general their snowmaking and grooming is better than blue's "chunky" snow.
I think Sno-tage could rival both Blue and CB for a combination or vertical and interesting runs with the proposed new trails and improvements.
One thing's for sure, I think things are getting much more interesting in NEPA with all the improvements (rumored and otherwise) at Blue, CB, Sno-tage etc, and we the skiers and riders can only benefit. All we need to do now is start a price war......

I haven't been to Park City before but I think of Park City as super expensive and super touristy...plus they receive alot less snow than Snowbird and Alta. I moved to Montana vs Colorado or Utah because I wanted to be somewhere with alot less people. Along with a much lower cost of living. What are the 6+ other mega-resorts within 30 minutes of park city???? Deer Valley, The Canyons, and Snowbird???? Alta, Solitude, and Brighton aren't mega-resorts.
PC was expensive to eat / drink and the tickets were more than the other resorts in the area (except for the deer valley and Alta ski-snob b4st4rds), but it was only $8 more than a ticket to Blue for a million times the terrain and experience.
Brighton, and Solitude are both "mega", maybe a bad choice of words but they are great places to ski and ride.
Look at skiutah.com for the local map and tell me PC isn't a great place to be located.
For the first time I am in somewhat agreement with FGT, if you haven't been there, don't be dissin' it.
PC was the real surpirise to me of my Utah trip, I went with some pre-conceptions (not unlike yours) and was really surprised by how "back-country" it got so quickly away from the lodge. And there parks were just awe-inspiring, if you think Blue's mole-hill's are Mo-fo booters......

Easton is closer to Booter mountain...the longest and best terrain park south of VT..and some really interesting runs...the longest season in the Poconos...plus the most vert...it's a no brainer...Booter mountain...aka the true mountain...Home mountain for me, Atomic Jeff, Jibophonic, ThinkSnow, M-Bike Mike, Sexkitten and Bob, Stevo, Free-ride, Justo, Toast, Tretiak, plus regular appearances by the Steeze clan, the Beechie clan, Metz garden State, the Montage mafia...ski, Xnick, and montage skier, and of course concussion Ted...Booter mountain...Touch the sky...
Doug, your devotion to Blue is touching. You should be some kind of PR person for them, maybe they'll give you a yellow blazer and a hat to ski in next season.
Personally, as a someone not focussed on park riding, I like blue for an occasional trip but wouldn't want it be my everyday/week "home" mountain. I'm interested to see what they do with the new trails this year, maybe that will tip the balance.

why not, it's a kick-ass resort with tons of back-country access and more terrain than you could possible get bored with in one season. Oh yeah and then there's the 6+ other mega resorts within 30 minutes drive and a major city 20 minutes away.
Looks like a great deal for one season.
Good luck to you "gcleary" that's one cool way to spend next season.

hopefully the mfm solos cuz thats what im looking to get, i dont care about u people bashing them tho, cuz they come with a lifetime warranty, so what do i have to worry about, haha
The solo's are a bit of a "base" model, with some of the "pro" features and "MFM" slapped all over them.
If you have a little extra cash look for the "team"s or the "dominators", they have more adjustment and higher spec parts. There are plently of places selling last years models very cheaply, go to ebay.
Student Pass?

I'm not saying they shouldn't do it, but what benefit does a ski area get from offering a student pass?
None of them have any money to spend on gear , food, drinks etc at the hill, most are not exactly a PR dream, if they are actually attending Uni' then they are only likely to be there at peak times, I just dont see the attraction in offering them cheap passes.
Wouldn't it be better (for the resort) to restrict them to a pass like they've just announced for school kids? Cheap but at off-peak hours.
Please enlighten me, without being rude.
