  1. I have a JVC mini DV camera and it has condensation problems whenever it gets even the slightest bit cold or damp. Biggest POS I've ever spent my own money on.

  2. Just to add to the binding debate:

Some previous posts have trashed Technine bindings, I have some and love them. They have done two seasons ( 60+ days and half a million vertical feet) with only one capstrap bolt coming loose which I probably should have checked. (also their warranty / support line was great)

When I got my new board (Ride) I got Ride bindings to go with it (SPi's) used them 3 or 4 times before transplanting my T9's onto the new board. Despite the fact I have Ride boots, they fit better in the T9 bindings (go figure :confused ). I did like the "convertible" strap on the Rides though, they felt as comfortable as the T9 cap's without looking so bulky. I can't quite put my finger on where the Rides were really lacking but once or twice while chopping through moguls it felt very loose on my back foot no matter how much you cranked the strap down.

I've never owned burton boards or bindings, I am sure they are great, but they seem expensive and maybe you dont always get what you pay for.....

    Back to the original topic:

A new helmet for me this year after a good whack on some rocks at CB at the end of the season.

The rest of my money will be going on a season pass (CB) and lots of trips away (VT and out west as much as possible)

  3. What gloves do you use/have used. What do you like what don't you like.

    Gloves vs. Mittens

    Brands?

    Features?

I'm in desperate need of a new pair, maybe if I can get some decent ones without spending an arm and a leg several pairs.

I've used mittens in the past, as well as gloves. The mittens are nice when it's super cold, but if its anywhere above 15 degrees, my hands would get too clamy and then cold from the moisture.

    I have 2 pairs:

    1) Level full length (not sure the model name), these have the "bio-mex" wrist protection built in, I bought these when I started boarding. They are toooo warm for most days with a removable liner and without the liner they just feel too big. I cannot recommend these gloves as the waterproof membrane got all twisted up whenever you pulled the inner glove out making it very difficult to put your fingers back in. Overall 2/10 unless it's -10 outside in which case 6/10.

    2) Grenade: now my default choice, excellent for most if not all local (including VT) days. They have a strange little croc-clip with a visor wipe in the back of one glove which is pretty pointless but the gloves themselves are excellent. Again not sure about a model name, they are dark grey/black with red piping, short length, but not "pipe" gloves. 8/10

  4. Sick board!

Unfortunately Jeenyus is no more. :(

But at least Eddie Wall and Ikka Backstrom now ride for Forum :rock

I wonder if Forum will give Eddie Wall his own pro model. If they do I'm gettin it :rock

Why would you buy a board you know nothing about just because it's Eddie's "pro model"? Unless you happen to be the same size, build and have the same riding style (and skillz) as the amazing Mr Wall, it isn't likely to work too well for you.

    Just a thought.....

  5. So, with the positive comments of Dharrisburg and Librider, I picked up this guy... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

It should be here sometime within the next week. I'm pumped! $227 Including shipping.

P.S. I think I probobly overpaid a bit for this board, as there are some of the same model (in different sizes) going for even less than I payed. IMHO last year's gear is the way to go.

Congratulations, Ive heard only good things about them.

Sideways people is a great place for cheap, "last years" gear, I've bought stuff for me and my daughter from them before and their service was excellent.

  6. Like the mailman from Seinfeld??? When is the new trail going in?

I'd probably name the run "Dougs Run"....or " the big Motherfucker"

Strangely I think "Pocono MoFo " would be a good name for a new diamond off of the east side of Nile.

I have another idea though, inspired by the out-west riding experience: Why not "make" a glade of sorts out of the non-nastar side of raceway, plant reasonably spaced conifers all the way down and make a rather dull trail (that has a really nice pitch) much more interesting.

  7. Thanks for the reports and pictures from Utah...your season doesn't have to end...there's still a few more weekends of Vermont skiing/riding and maybe a day or two more at Hunter. It's cool how last minute your trip was. Which ski area did you like best?

I think Brighton, for the mix of trails and the awesome views from the top of great western, and some of the "trails" coming down from there were insane. I think I could ride there for 20 years and still find new and fun places to ride.

Park city was a nice surprise, I expected to be let down after all the hype but it was really cool and I dont think I even scratched the surface.

I dont think I will ride anymore in the east this year, I'm going to go out on a high and look forward to the coming of winter in the east next year. Despite all the awesome stuff out here, I can't wait for CB and Blue to open up again.

  8. Yea so I'm planning next year already, becuase well I'm bored and the snow melted.

I'll be in college, but thats not going to stop me. Blue mountain day trips, but I'm planning at least 3 bigger trips. Probably Tremblant or one of hte VT mountains over winter break, Killington to warm up early decemebe, and a big trip the end of march. Thats my spring break trip, and I hope to go out West for the first time in my life. I'm thinking of going to the South SHore Soldiers camp at Heavenly from March 27th ~ish until April 2nd~ish. THey haven't posted next years dates but thats about the week. Its either that or like Park City just on a trip of my own. I can afford the camp pretty easily, but the airfare is killing me. WHere do you guys fly into? Reno or Sacramento? And is the airfare usually cheaper when you book early? WHat about Park City in terms of cheaper than going to Tahoe? I could give up the camp in exchange for just going to like Park City but the night life at Heavenly looks like a lot of fun, and its probably going to be just me and my girlfriend, and if we do the camp itd be cool as hell to have her learn to ride more park. ANyway, any thoughts/tips on the best place for a spring break trip out west and the cheapest plane to get there. Indirect flights cheaper? Any thoughts really is what I'm looking for.

If it helps, I'll probably have a billion continental miles cuz my dad flies so much, I'll be leaving from Newark/JFK area and she'll be leaving from Oahu, so yea, a major airport is needed.

As long as you can drive while you are in Utah, Park City is easy to get to from Salt Lake City and they have lots of flights from Newark to SLC. PC is expensive you you should consider staying in SLC, it's a half hour or so drive and it gives you the option of snowbird, solitude, brighton, snowbasin etc all close by.

I've just spent a long weekend here, was at PC today. If you book ahead, flights are cheap ($250-350), if you have airmiles it can only be free.

Hotels are cheap in SLC ($65/night if you have a choice priveledge card, free just register)

Rental cars are cheap too, I used enterprise at $100 for 4 days.

Utah is great, the parks at Brighton and PC were just mindblowing.

  9. My riding season has come to an end with an epic day at PC, not sure I can say it was better than Brighton, but considering the forecast was looking dubious yesterday, I was spoiled again with nice weather, great conditions and some awesome trails (groomers and otherwise).

A couple of pics, one of the mountain and one of the best way to end a ski season.

I am now totally exhausted after a 3rd straight open to close day, I would just like to end by saying thanks to all those that encouraged me to head out here on my own when the opportunity arose, it was an awesome experience.

I am now going to sleep for 12 hours and then catch a plane home.

    :rock:wiggle

  10. So, Brighton today. I didn't think anything would beat solitude by any distance, but today was just amazing (I think I'm using that word too often while I'm here).

Rode from open to close again today, only 20 runs but most pretty much top to bottom thanks to the great western and millicent lifts. I'll work out my vertical later but I am exhausted, it felt like 30k+.

Conditions were great all day, loose groomed powder on the trails and 1-2 feet of 3 day old heavy snow in the trees and on the ungroomed slopes (most of the blacks). It was also sunny, 60 degrees (at the base) and truly beautiful. Possible the best day on snow in my (short) time riding.

A couple of pics, one of milly herself (I rode the middle and sides of this today, but not from the peak, you can see where the lift access gets you, the other the side of that peak with the hiking prints of people much braver than me.

    Park city tomorrow.

  11. Is the second picture lift serviced.

Not really, you can get a lift to the head of the canyon and there's a very long black diamond run down the canyon floor. The near side of the canyon is all trees and can be accessed from the resort side through a selection of gates, this is really steep and dense tree skiing, the far side (that you can see in the picture) is considered part of the resort but if you want to access it you have to hike it.

I think Brighton has more lift access to the really hardcore stuff, from the solitude summit you can see some amazing looking terrain off of the back of Brighton's peaks. I'll see if I can get some pic's tomorrow.

  12. I shared a lift with a ski-patrol / medic person today and he told me about some kids at solitude last week.

They jumped from the chair near the summit, but were seen by the ski patrollers who grabbed them and

threatened to have them turned over to the police (as jumping from the chair constitutes "endangerment" as it can cause the other chairs to jump the cable (apparently <_< ).

Anyway, they were full of themselves and told the patrol guy that they just loved to jump from things so he offered them a deal. They could choose a drop from the small peak above the summit lift station and he would go with them and huck some jumps off of their chosen cliff, or he would send them to the cops.

If you have seen this peak you could understand their reluctance but he said they pretty much sh!t their pants and said they would take their chances with the law....

  13. Sounds awesome Timeless. I think we all wish we could be there. Great pics too! :yes

It would be cool to have some PASR's over here, though the locals are friendly enough and I have some friends from colorado coming over to ski/ride with me tomorrow (at Brighton).

  14. Just got back from an awesome day at Solitude, I was on the first lift and the last lift and managed several "firsts" for me:

first time over 10,000 feet (altitude) without a plane

first time skiing real tree runs

first time I've got to the top of a run and thought "Oh F@#k" but then done it anyway

    first bowl

first "chute" (this was the "Oh F..." run)

On the off chance that anyone want to know what the conditions were like, it was mostly lightly frozen powder and groomers at first, which softened up alot during the day but the surface was still fantastic at the close.

My legs are killing me but it's worth it, what an amazing place, I want to live here.

Here's a couple of pic's from the day, ones a view of the base area when I arrived, nicely groomed and with a 16ft base, the other is the view from eagle ridge looking over Honeycomb Canyon, a truly beautiful (but somewhat scary) place to ride, maybe next year I will be good enough to ride the tree runs down the side, for this year I was content to ride the run through the valley floor, which was pretty challenging.

  15. Hi all

I've arrived in SLC, but missed out on getting a couple of hours in this afternoon thanks to United airlines being too damn slow

I took a drive up to solitude / brighton anyway just to have a look, took a couple of snaps, I'll try and attach one.

Going to hit solitude tomorrow as a gentle start to the weekend, I'll post some pics from the hill tomorrow

  16. :wiggle:wiggle:wiggle:wiggle:wiggle

OK it's booked, I leave Friday morning. Plan is to Ski Friday evening at Brighton, Saturday at Solitude, Sunday at Snowbird, Monday either the Canyons or Park City.

I'm so f'in excited, this weeks going to seem soooo long :banghead
