  1. For anyone that's been out west, is it safe / practical to go alone? I've suddenly been given the opportunity (free money from work and an understanding wife ) to get a last minute trip out west for a few days (most likely Utah given the recent conditions). This would be my first trip out west and all the people I normally ride with are not able to get time off from work / wives etc so now I'm wondering if I should just head out there anyway. I'm thinking of staying in sandy (outskirts of SLC) and hitting Brighton, Solitude and Snowbird over three days. Any thoughts?
  2. I know nothing about skiing technique or form, but he looks fast and that's what counts.
  3. I can't believe I couldn't spot any of you guys up there today, I was there with my Daughter from 9 till 3 while my son was in ski school. The pond skim was fun to watch and I actually thought the jump added something, some really nasty landings at the end of the pond. Thanks to Blue for one more PA weekend, the conditions were "interesting" but we had a blast anyway. mainstreet was best run of the day IMO, at times it felt like the place was closed it was so quiet.
  4. Wow at last some value from my CB season pass.
  5. Sib, You should get paid by Big Mt. for the great photo advertising. The conditions still look amazing (east coast perspective I guess)
  6. "Camelback Ski Area has closed for the season. The much anticipated Mid-March snow never came in time to compensate for the fact we didn't make any after President's Day. Highlights for the season include opening after Blue Mt, and closing sporadically whenever we felt we wouldn't make enough money in day tickets! In addition, the investment into purchasing a new winch-cat showed its value this season. The new groomer pushed the same old snow from trail to trail ensuring crappy conditions. And topping out the season was the 1st annual pond skimming contest where we got to deliberately melt tons of snow to make the years first water feature. Over 40 CB employees were forced to brave the brisk wind and cold pond, being cheered on by all 200 people that turned up that weekend! The 2005-2006 ski and ride season was a great financial success and Camelback greatly appreciated all your money this winter. Thanks again for a short season! We hope to see you all at Camelbeach this summer and back for another season pass next year!"
  7. The winch cat is particularly good for dragging the slide pieces out of storage and pushing all of that horrible white stuff out of the way so they can build the waterpark features.
  8. Spent friday and saturday at Okemo Pipe and parks are in great shape, lots of features on lots of trails, should satisfy all levels. Trails were in pretty good shape for the time of year, some icy patches but mostly well groomed with lots of rollers on most of the runs and some moguls if you like that kind of thing. wasn't too crowded, especially on Friday so monday/ tuesday should be the same. temps are pretty low up there and they were still blowing at night. It was my first time at Okemo and I think I preferred it to Killy which is my normal VT destination. Stowe is probably in even better shape being further north, my friend went to Killy this weekend and he said they are suffering quite badly on the trails but the park areas are still holding up OK.
  9. Also how they were trying to sell tickets to ride through March for $123, what a great deal I hope no-one turns up for their "spring fling" Maybe they should change the pond skim to a "snow skim" where you run down the bare slope and throw yourself at the last remaining patch of snow that they blew some time in early february. I'm a loyal CB local and season pass holder (along with 2 children), I'm going to Okemo this weekend.
  10. How much longer will they stay open? It must be heartbreaking to see that much snow go to waste because of a few cuddly bears.
  11. Free speech is good, I've always thought you had useful and credible input to most of the discussions on here (even this one). But the only posts I've seen from the person (child?) starting this thread have been, as someone said earlier "fuelled by haterade" No
  12. So my daughter is 10 years old and has been boarding for a complete season now, she's showing an interest in riding park but is put off by people like you who she feels are just going to make her feel like she doesn't belong. Mt Skitzo, I thought you knew better... Mr "IwishIcouldgetsponsoredbyanyone" take your opinions elsewhere....dick
  13. That's about all they have open now.
  14. Anyone have a view on how much of Okemo (or mount snow or stratton) will be open in early April? I want to take a trip up with my kids but dont want to book anything if it's going to be real patchy.
  15. Glad to hear he is OK, I saw a couple of the other riders go down really hard, that was a monster jump/landing they had for the night comp. It's a shame I missed his first run. Wherever he placed, congrat's to him for having the skillz to get there in the first place, it was almost unbelievable that the kids in that event were so young. I was there with my boss and some others from work, it seemed a little odd shouting "Go Nipples" under the circumstances....
  16. P-Steeze , how did he place? I didn't manage to spot you guys over the weekend, though the area around Bear was a zoo (complete with a tiger ) so it wasn't really a surprise, even with your "mid-life crisis" jacket. I saw the night time event, very cool, though it looked liked Steven had a bad run. Some of the kids were amazing, though alot seemed to have trouble with the landing. Let us know how he did.
  17. Conditions were good last night, not much loose stuff but not many scraped off areas either. Grippy for turns and very fast in a straight line Also, it was sooooo quiet, I don't think we shared a run with anyone all night.
  18. no bumps there last night (monday)
  19. I was up at CB yesterday morning and the base looks pretty good in most places. Thay had blown alot on the run in to Presidents day weekend. It certainly looks good enough to get them through 3 weeks of fairly cold weather, after that it'll be weekends in VT, or having to listen to Doug tell us how great Blue is.. Completely changing the subject, was it "retards ski free day" at CB yesterday? The number of complete muppets snowploughing the trails seemed more than normal.
  20. How far is roundtop, and what's the out-of-park terrain like?
  21. 5 year old boy + too much energy + small rock in the grass = afternoon in ER
  22. Sorry Mrs. Sib, looking unlikely as I have a small one with a broken foot and it seems to be a "we all go or you don't go" deal. even have a new, more powder friendly board.... Maybe next year
  23. The press release for the "spring events" does say that the pond skimming weekend is "rounding out this years calendar" which sounds kind of ominous. I expect that they have already stopped blowing snow after last weekend, and they have a decent base to re-hash for the last month. We should all just accept that it will be either that weekend or at best the following one when they shut down. Time to be planning trips further afield.
  24. Were you in the vid? The pipe looked a little shallow/flat? could have just been the camera angle I guess. Park looks great though, you've delivered what you promised at the start of the season.

    Ride vs M3

Yeah I know, they've teamed up with Elan so presumably their boards will initially be re-badged elans (no bad thing from what I've heard about them). Actually M3 might still exist, Blaise and the riders took themselves to Elan and hence the new name. But they never owned M3, they just had a distribution deal. So M3 can still continue to pump out the existing designs as long as they like.
