  1. Flying back from snowy Sweden to snowy Munich tomorrow, then off to the stubai glacier for the weekend. Stoked.
  2. Hey, no offense meant. If there was anything I could do to make you feel better about where you are right now I would like to hear it, but honestly I can't even imagine what's going on in your life. I hope you have some people around you that can support you more than you are getting from your family, Hope you can find a way through this, as a parent it breaks my heart to read your recent posts.
  3. You've been moving around a lot yourself and without generalizing I'm sure there's been some dubious substances along the way. I don't post enough for people to know where I am, just enjoying life.
  4. moved to the bay area a year or so ago, not gonna comment on how you might have missed it. spent black friday at northstar, few more pic's below. Northstar was in great condition, considering it does get a lot of traffic, it really seemed like just a day after the storm, not 3. snow was soft and deep, really fresh in the trees. my daughter after taking a dive. my son enjoying the bumpy pow Oh, and there were groomers too, very nice but not too much time spent there.
  5. Hi Everyone, just thought I would share a few pic's from my turkey day, no turkey for me but plenty of day old powder, blue skies and moderate (30 degree) temperatures. This is the view from my thanksgiving lunch table, hey it was just pizza but I'm OK with that trade. And here are my kids having some first day fun, not so in control at times Overall conditions were amazing, hard to believe it's so early in the season. Hope you all had a good turkey day too.
  6. I think they use Camelback-inches.
  7. Good point. 8ft of dry loose snow on top of a thin crust that was down before this, not a good recipe for stable snowpack.
  8. It's always tough in PA, the cold and snow will come in early december just like every other year. Can you imagine living here when it's just snowed 70-100" in less than a week, mountain temps are in low single digits at night and some of the resorts are still not opening until "early December".
  9. Kirkwood claiming north of 8ft, still snowing. Most of the tahoe resorts are claiming >70" and expecting another "1-2 feet" tonight / tomorrow. Sad thing is that not many are open.
  10. Northstar on Thursday and Squaw on Friday, snow is supposed to stop on Wednesday, blue skies and 30 degrees for a couple of days and then another storm at the weekend. Maybe my only riding in the US until christmas, going to europe (work) for 2 weeks in december so am going to the austrian Alps for the weekend i'm stuck over there.
  11. Kirkwood are claiming 102" from the strom so far and we still have one more major wave to come tonight and tomorrow, they are not even open until Thursday.....

    SAD

me too (especially if I can pay through the site), this is one of the most depressing posts ever on PASR, can't even begin to imagine how he's feeling.

    SAD

I always found late fall in PA to be unbearably depressing. That period between the leaves dropping (no more warm sunny days) and the real cold arriving just feels like a waste of 6-8 weeks. Despite the fact I have to drive 3 hours to find snow now, at least the weather is still decent for other activities and the season really sneaks up on you. Having said that, I'm still itching to get up to the mountains once they open up, nothing can change that need to ski / ride.
  14. Look at this NWS forecast : this is for as close to Granite Chief at Squaw as it will allow me to select, but still only at 7000ft. Friday: A chance of snow showers before 10am, then snow showers likely and areas of blowing snow after 10am. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to near 37 by noon, then falling to around 28 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 26 and 28 mph, with gusts as high as 39 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Friday Night: Snow and areas of blowing snow. Low around 23. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 18 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 44 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible. Saturday: Snow and areas of blowing snow. High near 28. Southwest wind between 16 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 9 to 13 inches possible. Saturday Night: Snow showers and areas of blowing snow. Low around 13. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 10 to 16 inches possible. Sunday: Snow showers and areas of blowing snow. High near 23. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 12 to 18 inches possible. Sunday Night: Snow showers and areas of blowing snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12. Monday: Areas of blowing snow and a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 23. This could be a record breaking November storm.
  15. This last picture is my favorite, nice spaced "soft" trees, decent pitch, deep snow, love it.
  16. Schweitzer looks to have some nice wide-open areas and bowls, Big Mountain just looks great. You do a great job of promoting the mountain, they should give you a free season pass. It must be something about the location but as nice as it looks it never seems to be on anyones "hitlist". I'd still like to try it, but I'm having trouble justifying to many long distance trips after a fantastic season in Tahoe last year.
  17. I must be getting old, it's only weeks to the season starts, I have no new gear and as much as I look around I cant convince myself that I need anything. I just wanna go ride......... I wish it would get cold in the mountains.
  18. Nastar on paradise is just a way for them to hand out more tickets. Do you think they would accept that you were "just practicing for NASTAR" as you ski it at full speed on any other day? The (official) glades at JF are fun, but "legit" is stretching it a bit.
  19. Given Blue's inability to blow anything other than ice-cubes, would you actually want to ski where they can't groom? You guys better hope for a whole lot of natural snowfall this year if you expect to do any "glade" skiing.
  20. What does that typically mean?
  21. I was there !!!!!! it was freakin' awesome. 60+ degrees, nice snow (mostly), swimming (outdoors) at lunchtime, back on the snow in the afternoon, amazing way to finish the season. They still have tons of snow, sorry it's not much of a trip report but I hope you enjoy the pictures..... my season is now officially over (unless they open for 4th of July). View from halfway down in the afternoon my son enjoying the somewhat clumpy late season snow lunchtime by the pool, plenty of snow left on siberia, gotta love california
  22. This is just a personal opinion, but as I've been lucky enough to be in some form of fresh snow in 80-90% of my riding days this year I have some thoughts on this matter. I have found that unless the powder is dry, deep "blower" type snow then the traditional "powder" board (long & tapered) doesn't always work out best. If the snow is the heavy wet (but deep) kind you referred to then the long floaty board can be very hard to turn (or more often to get out of the turn). I currently have 2 boards that I take to the mountains (Tahoe in my case), a Lib-tech 158 Dark series, mounted at centre, ducked and not a rockered version, and a Ride Timeless 164, mounted way back, not ducked. Now granted the timeless is not a powder board as such, but by conventional wisdom it should be better in powder than the Lib. In deep light snow, there is no question this holds true and on such occasions a true powder board seems very appealing. However, in most other conditions, especially once the snow is somewhat chewed up by previous runs, I find the shorter, lighter board is preferable and it just needs more speed and little rearward bias in your riding style to compensate. For the east coast (unless you are lucky enough to live in Northern Vermont)I can see no justification for owning a powder specific board. I'll be picking up a rockered board in the off season and I think the suggestion above for a V-rocker is the best plan for you.
  23. Nice, gotta love that "sierra cement"
  24. $250 for high end gear with gore-tex doesn't seem out of the ordinary, especially if you add on a little for olympic hype. I'm sure they will sell all they can make
