    2/22/08

Drove up last night to get ahead of the storm. It's like 7 mile drive from where I was staying (Clifford) to the mountain and the roads weren't too bad driving this morning. I was there from 9 to 4 and it snowed moderate to heavy most of the day. I would guess there was about 1.5 inches on my truck this morning and then maybe 3 when I left the mountain. Roads weren't so hot driving back. As I type this WNEP said 8 inches of snow fell here in Clifford. Crowds were light in the morning and it picked up a bit throughout the day. Some Tom, Dick, and Harry's were present and was even honored by the presence of a few jeans skiers. This brew is for you. There are J1/J2 GS and slalom races today through the weekend. Whatever trail you chose was a great choice today. Some hard patchs surfaced through the course of the day as the new snow was pushed around but definitely an excellent day regardless. The best runs I remember were first run in the Tunkhannock bumps then a run down Wyalusing where the left side of the trail was untouched.
  8. I guess I should check the warranty. I thought it was lifetime on the baseplate and the other parts were 2 yrs. The pros of a stiffer binding would be quicker edge to edge and better turn control. Cons would be less forgiving on landings. There is definitely a little play with the highbacks and the baseplate has a decent damp pad. I dont think they are stiff as some make them out to be. The best thing I can say is you dont even realize you are strapped in.

    Conditions?

Its a shame they cant stay open into April. Last season they had the snow to do it. Problem is they can't afford to be open past the 100 day guarantee.

    Conditions?

Thats all any PA hill has, Elk included
  11. I have the CO2s from last year. I never tried P1s but I can compare them to Cartels. They are light and very responsive. Don't really even realize you are strapped in. Are you looking for a responsive binder? If not, then CO2 is probably not what you want. If you get a lot of days in per season you might want to do some research on the durability of the highbacks, thats probably the biggest question mark on the binding. The retail price is kind of steep but if you can find a nice sale price go for it. Luckily I found a nice clearance price so I took them. Hope that helps

  15. Saw a flight listing today, Philly to Jackson passing through Cincy, roundtrip 1/19 to 1/26 for under $300. So tempting...

  17. Careful on the lifts folks. Some kid died at Heavenly a few weeks back. He leaned forward to adjust his ski boot or something and took a 25 ft swan dive.

  22. A few years ago when I was at Heavenly the ski patrol was chasing some kid who was sliding down on a shovel. He was moving pretty fast too.

    Bindings

I like the hiback rotation. It did feel a little weird at first but I got used to it. Better response with. With a 15 boot I would definitely do some research and see what bindings handle that. I have the Burton Co2 and I love them, dont even realize you are strapped in. That said I don't think they are worth the retail price. Luckily I found a nice sale on them.
  24. Anybody ever do the bobsled run up there? Worthwhile?
