  1. no, i am going to graduate school at CU (just got in), which will prolong my stay in CO for at least another year. I can't imagine that I will come back to the east coast after that either, though.
  2. heres some more pictures, most of them weren't on the TGR link: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2476364&id=10238856&l=2253a977ac
  3. A few friends and I went to silverton friday and saturday, because unlike the front range, the san juans actually have snow. For those unfamiliar with silverton, it is a 1 ski lift ski area. While there is good skiing right off the lift, it gets tracked out, and the better terrain requires hiking. We spent friday mainly doing lift laps with one long hike because there was about 16" new over the last week (they only open on weekends), then did three hikes on saturday as the terrain right off the lift was getting tracked out. They limit their skiers to 400 per day, but there wasn't anywhere near that this weekend. They also require a beacon, shovel, and probe to ski, because while they do avi control work, they don't have the amount of skier compaction of normal ski areas in order to virtually eliminate any risk. It is a fun hill, and I highly recommend a visit there, but be in shape! heres the TR that a friend posted on TGR, http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179425
  4. For all you SNOWBOARDERS out there! YEP! ONE PARK IS OPEN! LMAO http://jfbb.com/explore/media/video check out the first video
  5. thanks a ton! picked up a couple for the wary, it is linked through http://wkrz.com so it is legit
  6. haha, this thread really brings me back to the hysteria the news outlets in PA cause at the first mention of snow. everyone go out and get your bread and milk now, you could get 3" and be stranded at your house for days!
  7. definitely april. presidents day weekend is a shitshow.
  8. I have skied some of my deepest days in April, and I believe April is generally one of our snowiest months, (I know March is the snowiest). The nice thing that Colorado has over other places is the elevation to keep the conditions good late into the season. 2 years ago, I skied a foot of blower on May 16th. Early April is also nice because you can pretty much count on everything being 100% open. Some aspects do start to get effected by melt-freeze cycles starting in early April, but this is usually confined to south facing slopes at lower elevations. In April, you will have anything from corn (at lower, more southerly facing elevations) to chalky goodness at higher north facing aspects to blower pow if you're lucky (once again, yes, it does snow in April). I may be bias, but I highly recommend if you get a nice bluebird day, come to Loveland and ski the ridge (and the steeps on chair 1). Although sometimes the wind does negatively effect certain aspects on the ridge at times, i have never experienced a negative impact on conditions from a spring melt freeze cycle, and I have skied it well into the month of May. IMO, if I were you, unless you plan on skiing park a lot, I minimize my time at keystone (lower elevation, and not much snow) and breck (crowded). I don't know much about copper, as I have never skied there. I would try to spend more time at A Basin, which is sick in the spring (definitely hike the upper east wall if it's open, which it usually is around that time), and Loveland. This will also save you a lot of $$ in lift tickets. That said, if you are coming to ski park, definitely go with breck and key as they do have the best parks in colorado, and maybe in the nation.
  9. ullr the god of snowmaking?
  10. librider, glad you're having fun, but a pic of a flat groomer does not bring the stoke.
  11. is that pic really supposed to make people jealous? CO needs snow....BAD
  12. johnny hit the nail on the head. Wold Creek actually gets the most snow of any ski area in Colorado by a significant margin, but their terrain is lacking. Another suggestion, if you do Johnny's little tour he suggested, and go down towards Salida and Crested Butte. Another area that also does very well on snow, but with has some amazing terrain is Monarch. Mirkwood is some of the best terrain I have skied and it takes forever to get tracked out, due to an obscene amount of people unwilling to do the 10 minute hike to get there.
  13. you need both. You need equal air and water pressure blowing through a nozzle in order to make snow. You can do this without a pressure washer, but then you can't make much snow because you are limited by your domestic water pressure. You cannot do without a compressor, though unless you have another method of blowing air over the water particles, such as using a fan.
  14. in other news, they are now called: CAMELBACK MOUNTAIN RESORT BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH! http://www.skicamelback.com/SkiCamelBack/Home.aspx
  15. if JF put guns in those woods, that would be the most badass run south of Vermont. However, it would need to snow in excess of 100" for that to ever be skiable without snowmaking methinks, which is like a once a decade or less winter for the poconos.
  16. id put some in the bank, and use some to go heli-skiing and buy a snowmobile
  17. this is not true. you get six tickets, not 10, and they do vary in price depending on where and when you use them. Source: others using them on my pass last year loveland > anything else in summit for 90% of the year (when the upper east wall at abay is not open)
  18. Dan, if you are thinking hotel...if I were you, I would set up shop in Georgetown. there are some really cheap hotels there. Then you have loveland about 10 mins away, with keystone, breck, and A-Basin also close by, and vail within an hour. Don't limit yourself to one ski area. The major draw of the front range is the sheer number of ski areas all very close together. Experience as many of them as possible.
  19. they usually range anywhere from $50-$80 depending on the date you want to use them...
  20. dan, if you want to ski at loveland, I can get you $45 lift tickets there with my pass, hit me up when you are out here if you want.
  21. so you are you realize that you can get the 09 new anywhere for $50 more than what you are charging for a used board GTFO
  22. up to 11" here in boulder:
  23. ~4" so far NWS says 5-9" additional today
  24. http://www.paskiandride.com/forums/topic/14397-bogo-lift-ticket/
  25. the chances of there ever being enough natural snow to ski that on a given year is virtually nonexistent. The only year I can remember that any of those trees were skiable was 02/03. There is also a "sweet" 20-25 footer to flat further back in those trees
