  1. so 99.9% of your posts should be regarded as spam from now on is what you are saying?
  2. do you get royalties for always having your mouth firmly attached to peak resorts' balls?
  3. Fans also increase the ambient air temperature, while the expansion of compressed air actually cools it. Granted, evaporative cooling plays a much larger roll than the heating done by the fans, but it could still have an effect in marginal temperatures. just saying...
  4. that simply is not true, compressed air guns will always be better than fan guns at marginal temperatures
  5. definitely not what i was talking about. the 20 footer between river shot and floyd's requires a lot of snow, because it is a flat landing... (i saw it hit during the presidents day 2 foot storm winter 02, 03) the cliffs past floyds have some pretty steep landings though, the only thing keeping them from being hit is too much vegetation around them...
  6. i am planning on it
  7. glenn thanks for the ticket and everything else you did for me saturday, i had the time of my life. What a fuckin day.. heres the pic i got of you: heres some from vail on closing day... my friend josh hucking a ~20 footer on lovers leap: heres some more random pics from the day: i did jump this, josh just sucks at taking pictures there was a huge party at the summit at 4 pm me catching some rays
  8. theres a few more hidden in those bushes. beyond the bushes, there is a really nicely spaced glade with the steepness of floyds if not a little more. very boney, the only year i was able to ski it without hitting tons of rocks was winter 02,03 and yeah, when you ski JF every weekend, every year from when you are 3 to 18, you go exploring
  9. oh yeah, i keep forgetting what a shitshow the headwall above the main rivershot headwall gets by the end of the day naa, the hucks are to the immediate lookers left of risk it, you can easily get back to floyds there is also a decent 20 footer in between elevator and floyds, but that one has kind of a flat landing
  10. pray tell, how exactly does a groomer get "skied out" there are some really good hucks with steep landings back there, all they have to do is clear out a few small trees and rhododendron
  11. finish the expansion of east mountain discussed years ago there is so much they can do with that terrain to the skier's right of floyds
  12. companies like vail and intrawest can easily get extensions on their use permits if they wanted to, they have in the past, for some reason, they just aren't doing it this year, and i would assume it is because business is starting to drop off.
  13. yes, i agree with you. From a business standpoint, staying open late does nothing for BB, hell, 90% of the colorado ski areas are closing on april 13th, which is probably boulder's last day as well. Think THEY are closing due to lack of snow? Think again...
  14. CB has 800 vertical, and a good amount of terrain. advertising will get them business from the casual skier. BB has a park and what? 400 vertical?. They already get the diehard "newschoolers" crowd without any advertising because those people already know that they are open. the casual skier probably won't go to boulder in april to ski a park or the one 8 second run they have open.
  15. All big boulder cares about is having recognition for having a huge park. They couldn't care less that their parks are too big for 90% of their customers. Small parks just don't get them recognition. Its almost comical, that just 3 years ago they only had ride on rails, and now they refuse to make any of them ride on for people to learn on.
  16. as per the website, seems a little early to me, even blue ridge generally kept JF open till the last weekend in march... BB going to weekends only after the 23rd as well
  17. thats the elevator btw, you do a good job of making JF not look sucky in your photos
  18. this is true. most ski areas in PA don't close because of a lack of snow, they close when the people stop showing up. boulder has enough firepower to blow enough snow to stay open well into may if they wanted to. It just doesen't make economic sense to do so. my guess is JF will close 3/30/08 and BB will close for midweek skiing the same time, and open on weekends through 4/13/08, then of course, there is mayday. Jordan
  19. blue ridge almost bought montage when it was up for sale. Kinda weird that the very next year, they decide to contract out operations at both JF and BB to PEAK
  20. bring back Cajun French fries take out some of the trees and rocks about 1/4 mile to the skiers right of floyd's folly. There is some amazing pitch and glades back there, but they are only skiable once in every handful of years, last time being winter 2002/2003.
  21. She is right, if you can't see a landing, it is your responsibility to have a spotter. Now, that said, it is never good practice to stand on landings.
  22. throw enough explosives at a slope and it doesn't slide, you can pretty much be sure a skier won't set anything off
  23. the only reason for a ski area to wait until the middle of january to open something is due to lack of snow. Any avalanche risk can be taken care of with charges quite quickly.
  24. JFBB is too steezy to cater to beginners. They know everyone worth a damn was born knowing how to do a 3 foot gap onto a rail, and the rest can suck it.
  25. a south facing slope in PA would lose so much snow, it wouldn't be cost effective to keep making new snow on it to keep it open come to colorado and drive I70, and check out the differences in snowpack on the left and right sides of the highway, and notice that every one of the ski areas on the highway is on the southern side (north facing slopes). granted, many ski areas are huge, so they are bound to have some east/west/south facing areas, but they are still primarily north facing. the only exception i know of is bromley in VT which, for some off reason boasts about being south facing, which gives them short seasons and crappy snow conditions... sidenote: A basin just recently opened a new area on their mountain called montazuma bowl last week for the first time ever. want to know why it took them until the middle of january to open it? it is south facing. It is on the continental divide in colorado at almost 13000 feet, and still didnt hold enough snow to open it until the middle of january
