18z is coming out, HOLY FUCKING NAM
-
easternuswx.com but they closed down the board to guests because their servers are getting bogged down you can look at the american models here if you want http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/
-
wow, the 12z model runs just came out and the easternuswx message boards are going nuts, looks like its gonna be a big one
-
the GFS is also trending back north with every model run have fun in the snow guys
-
if they are really going to do this, IMO, they should move beach party weekend later into march or the first weekend in april or something, just so theres something to draw people back to the mountain, and it will be guaranteed to be warmer for pond skimming. Jordan
-
and of course JFBB has such a great record of staying open late
-
it was fucking rediculous, it all went to waste in the end though, when they closed 2nd week in march like usual. I cant see them reopening after the snowmobile races, but i would love it if they proved me wrong Jordan
-
it appears we are reverting back to the early 90s here I still remember the sign that used to be up top of the JF half pipe, SNOWBOARDS ONLY
-
That would ba a horrible business decision for PEAK, but i wouldnt put it past them at this point. Jordan

actually, my calculations were for a lift that goes 1000 ft/min or 11.36 MPH
-
hmm, 100 runs in a day...that would be a run every 4:48 (on a weekend, 8 hour ski day) assuming JF has a 600 verticle drop and the lift climbs at an average of 10 degrees, (that is conservative, IMO), the lift on east mountain would be 3456.22 feet long. High speed lifts fun at around 1000 feet/min, so the lift would get you to the top in 3:27, which would give you 1:21 to get back down and back on the lift (IMO, that would be very tough but doable) wow, i really have too much time on my hands Jordan

yup this is pretty much how it is down there from my experience

From my observations, resorts tend to stay open late if they are privately owned. If resorts are owned by a corporation, they have to constantly show profits to shareholders, ortherwise they will be closed. For example, the vail resorts out here in colorado (vail, keystone, breck, and beaver creek) are all closed by the around the 3rd week in april. However, the privately owned resorts like loveland and arapahoe basin stay open well into may (for loveland) and june (for A Basin). As long as they finish their season in the black, they are happy. For one of the greatest examples of the change when resorts go corporate, just look at Killington. They used to open in october and stay open well into june when they were privately owned, but since they were bought out by ASC, the ski season up there has become shorter and shorter. Now, they generally open in late november and close in late April or early may. Jordan

1. JF has officially removed said trails from the trail map, seems like PEAK is taking this resort backwards in ways of terrain. 2. Papasteeze, dont kid yourself, BB will close on 3/18, and JF most likely 3/25. Remember, Peak is a business. JF and BB are more about making money now than they have ever been. Blue ridge really didnt care either way with the ski areas, because they had real estate on their mind mostly, so as long as they were not losing money on skiing, they were happy because keeping the resorts alive raised area property values. However, year after year, all the area ski resorts have found that it simply is not profitable for them to try and push the ski season later through the end of march and into april. They all have the firepower in their snowmaking arsonals to do it, it just is not worth their time. although if your lucky, BB might push enough snow into a pile to have another rail jam first weekend in May as another publicity stunt, i would assume Jordan

they dont allow their employees to park within a 15 mile perimeter of the town do they?
-
whats the real estate going for up there?
-
yet youre going in 6 months?
-
are you moving there? or buying a condo there? or something?
-
arent they building a ski resort there that, when completed, will surpass whistler/BC for the most lift served vert on the continent?
-
yes, i know this for a fact.. Jordan

peak likes to screw over people who have been loyal to JFBB over the years... (i know from experience) They wouldnt hire me back over my christmas break I have been working there for 4 years (2 OF WHICH WERE VOLUNTEER BY THE WAY), and at least someone from my family has been working there every year since the winter of 92/93!!
