  1. maybe they measured to the flat... One more thing, BB should open in the morning midweek if the local school district(s) are closed for a snow day.... Most of their staff is high school kids, so this would work fine. Jordan
  2. well, as much as bash PEAK resorts, they seem to be pretty committed to the ski industry (early opening, late closing), TP upgrades, snowmaking upgrades ETC. This is unlike blue ridge, because their primary business was SELLING REAL ESTATE, NOT SKIING. Honestly, blue ridge probably didnt give a shit when they opened or closed. They didnt make much money with JFBB, and the only real reason they kept the mountains running was to increase real estate value in close proximity to the ski areas. Now that PEAK took over, blue ridge can put all their efforts towards building and selling a shitload of condos in all that undeveloped land off of JFM road, and around their new golf course for top dollar, just because there is a ski area right there, and they dont have to worry about running the ski area. Peak on the other hand, their only source of income is skiing. They are going to do everything in their power to get more customers. They need to increase skier visits, because JFBB, historically is not very profitable. Blue ridge didnt care, because most of their income came from selling real estate, but PEAK definately does.. (though I still dont quite get the season pass validation thing, which may drive some pass holders away) Jordan
  3. i thought this was going to be about the people hiking for turns on Jay Peak today... Jordan
  4. if JFBB is serious about shooting for thanksgiving, which they appear to be, they will blow snow every chance they get. I dont see any reason to believe they won't fire up the guns as soon as it gets cold enough, as long as there arent any major warmups forecast... Jordan
  5. I dont know if i could justify paying more than $500 or so for a PA season pass, even if it did include everywhere... Jordan
  6. naa, i didnt see anyone skiing closed trails. A Basin is part of my pass. I have breck, keystone, vail, beaver creek and A Basin. Im kinda wishing i just sucked it up and paid for a loveland ticket though. Apparently the lines there werent bad at all according to a post on TG... Jordan
  7. poachers, do you mean people hiking up? If so, there were a few who tried, but A Basin staff always stopped them and yelled at them for some reason.. I guess youre not allowed to do that there? There were a lot of tracks pretty much everywhere off A Basin property though, so a lot of people are hiking and hitting the back country. How do i log a day in the top ten stats? i already included it in my personal stats...does it go in automatically? Jordan
  8. we got there around 10:30 because we had to go like 40mph on I70 because it was snow covered for the most part, and had to go even slower once we got to loveland pass. What should have been a 1.5 hr drive took close to 3 hrs. We ended up leaving at like 2-2:30ish because we had enough of the hour waits to get on the lift So we were there for like 4 hrs
  9. nope, camelback and JF are about equal if i take sullivan trail to CB. BB, i can make in like 10 mins if i take stoney hollow-->long pond road-->115-->903
  10. I just got back from A Basin I had a blast. It was a great time, and now i can say i have been skiing in october Getting to A Basin via loveland pass is one of the most beautiful (and scarriest) drives i have ever been on. IE snowy road, huge cliffs on both sides and no guide rails... If you ever have a chance to go to A Basin, make sure you take loveland pass over the continental divide to get there. There were plenty of people skiing the back country at loveland pass today. Its kinda cool, they park at the bottom, and hitch hike to the top of the divide for their runs. Something I will definately have to do one day. It seems to be like an intro to back country. Because there are so many people there that know what they are doing at any given time, and because of its close proximity to the road, it doesent seem as dangerous as true back country. The first thing i noticed at A Basin was how much natural snow they already have. There is at least 2 feet of natural snow on the ground. That is more natural snow than i have seen on the ground at any given time in PA in several years. The locals think nothing of it. Apparently that is normal this time of year? Anyway, we get to A Basin. The conditions are amazing, the line for the lift was HUGE. They had 2 intermediate runs and a terrain park (with just 3 rails) open. It was at least an hour wait for the lift. We ended up doing 3 runs, and decided we had our fill, and it was not worth it to wait an hour again to repeat the same runs. So we left around 2 ish. (we didnt get there till like 10:30 because the roads were bad on the way there) All in all, it was a fun day, and was definately worth it. Man, does it feel good to get back on skis again. Until next time... Jordan PS. I took some pictures on my camera phone, but i dont think my phone can email them to myself. If anyone else can put them online, or even email them to me, and ill put them online, ill be happy to text them to you... PM or email me at skiracer88@gmail.com if interested... If you have any questions...post em
  11. ummm, no, but my house is just 15 mins down 940. (towards mt pocono) Jordan
  12. skiing from 8 in the morning till 10 at night is a little much, so on saturdays i like to go watch the band for a couple hours. Sundays i generally do ski till close though.
  13. watching the cover bands at BB on sat nights is hella fun, you should really go sometime. I am sure you will change your mind
  14. yeah, we plan on getting there when they open, so hopefully we can get a couple runs in before it gets rediculously crowded Jordan
  15. http://www.jfbb.com/whats-new.asp the lodges at JFBB will be smoke free this year It will be so nice to be able to chill in the BB lodge on sat nights and watch the cover bands without coming home smelling like smoke. Great move PEAK
  16. i dont think my phone can i was just told by someone who went today that the lines were 1/2 hour, i guess i can expect even longer tomorrow ahh well, itll be worth it even if i only get a couple of runs in
  17. The forecast calls for 8-18" of snow in the mountains tonight into tomorrow, so me and a friend are making the trek up to A Basin tomorrow morning to hit some powder. This will be my 1st ski day this season (i was unable to go last weekend because my fam came out for family weekend) Ill post a report when i get back, hopefully with some pics, if i can figure out how to put cell phone pics on the computer. (maybe i can just text them to someone on here who knows how to do it?) Jordan
  18. Welcome to last saturday Jordan
  19. skiing is better
  20. yeah, they also forget that JF and BB are NEVER EVER crowded. aside from holiday weekends, i cant remember standing in a lift line last year.. maybe it is because i am usually at JF during the day, and stick to the east mountain side (rarely the park), and at BB hitting the parks only at night, but those two mountains never seem to get crowded to me.. Jordan
  21. all i have to say is, they better step up the jump situation at JF. I long for that huge triple lipped jump at the bottom of the big headwall that they had 3 (ish) years ago. That park was the greatest. they had 2 tables up top (one right after the other) then the huge triple lip jump with the steep landing at the bottom of the headwall (though the it was a little short, and a lot of people hit the flat) , then a modest sized step up at the bottom. what can i say... rails just dont excite me. give me a good jump park and ill be happy Jordan
  22. camelback
  23. that is the funniest thing i have ever heard. yeah it was real, and it was sick
  24. i didnt know camelback used molds for their half pipe. half pipes made using molds generally suck. Jack frost stopped using theirs years ago because you cant get a perfect cut using the dragon if it is made from a mold oh, and the best half pipe in PA was 3 or 4 or maybe 5 years ago at JF when they put the pipe right down the center at the bottom of tobyhanna hopefully BB can get it together and make one this year, and not like the piece of crap they made two (three?) years ago Jordan
