GAH, should I go, or not?.
-
Where did you see that? I have been tossing around the idea of driving up there this weekend, and this may make my decision a lot easier...although it is currently raining down low on the mountain...
-
Why does jackson still only have a handful of groomers open with a 47" base and 100" on the year? Targhee has had similar snow and has a similar base and is 100% open.

I ski at least twice a week in the winter. I just ski mainly resort during the winter because i prefer living rather than dying in an avalanche. I ski the BC only when I am confortable with the stability of the snowpack. I am becoming more educated on judging snow stability, and recently I have been getting out of the resort a little bit in the winter, but I am still fairly conservative in my decision making. Sorry I am not reckless enough for you. I wasn't aware that skiing 3000+ vert of 45 degree smooth corn in May counted as skiing a "shithole summer glacier". I guess you think skiing a 1000 foot 20 degree icy groomer in early December is more fun, huh? By the way, there are no true glaciers left in Colorado...only a few "permanent snowfields" remain, and I can count on one hand the number of times I have skied a permanent snowfield in my 6 years in Colorado. Fuck off shadows

heh, colorado sucks so far this year.... I am sure there is better skiing in new england than here at this point, but glad you are having fun
-
god, telluride is so sick. I gotta get back there this year.
-
my favorite run I've ever skied is the east face of torrey's peak another one I liked a lot a north-ish couloir on mount fletcher by quandary
-
not from today...from sometime last week was really stoked to meet him

Its not about the ads or rigged voting. Vail and Deer Valley get the most votes because they both give subscriptions to ski magazine to their season pass holders. Obviously if you take a poll of Deer Valley season pass holders, they are going to say that Deer Valley is their favorite ski resort.
-
please...Deer Valley got #2 and vail got #3. that right there should tell you that the whole ranking system is bullshit.

Sib, Loveland doesn't make money on their own race program. What they do make money on is renting lanes to external race teams early and late season when other resorts are not in operation.
-
In other news, loveland appears to have given up in the race to open this year... they stopped making snow at the basin and appear to be concentrating on getting a run open at the valley for the race teams. I guess the real money is in racing for them. They liked getting national news coverage, but will likely be missing out on that now that a number of east coast resorts have opened. A Basin is still pushing hard though and should be open within a couple of days I think.

thats a fun hike, especially the scramble from south arapaho to north arapaho. I wanna ski arapaho glacier so badly. it looks so sweet...too bad its a 1k fine. Stupid boulder water shed

YAY, its almost time to ski groomers for two months in all seriousness, i am getting very stoked for ski season. Heres to hoping for some early season snow
-
me too, i quit skiing. its dumb

Nice barb! i love bear, for some reason I always enjoyed that hike much more than green. That smoke is pretty crazy, huh? I skied torreys today, then went on a 16 mile bike ride on the centennial cone trail network in clear creek canyon. I am pretty beat. Ill post some pics later, probably one of my last ski days of the season. Snow quality is starting to go downhill.
-
No, there have been too many problems with that one. I got the rock shox reverb
-
I demoed the bike with a seat dropper, and found it to be really convinient when there are downhillls with short uphills mixed in or vice versa, because there is no need to get off the bike to adjust the seat. Mine also has infinite adjustment, which is really nice. I put it all the way up when going uphill or on flat, and most of the way down when going downhill. Its really nice to get the seat out of the way when going downhill in order to get your weight over the back of the bike. yeah, not all bikes are designed like your $75 walmart special where the frame brakes in half if you roll over a curb.

God, you are an idiot. 29er geometries often requires the dropping of that tube to decrease SOH.
-
Just bought it yesterday. Kona satori full suspension 29er, 5" of travel front and back, short wheelbase, 68 degree HTA. Added a rock shox seat dropper. SO STOKED!

It is actually a double green..similar in difficulty to the nile mile at camelback, a little harder than snowflake at JF.

after hurricane force winds forced me to mountain bike saturday and sunday, I was able to bag a line today I have been looking at for quite a while. There may not be much snow left, but the snow that is there is skiing extremely well (in the front range at least). I skied some of the smoothest corn of my life today. It felt weird being comfortable opening up that much in the BC, but the snow was absolutely perfect: 2 pics:
