40' flat rail, the big flat/down rail, and 2 or 3 boxes (flat, flat/down, etc.), and a pretty big 1/4 pipe at the bottom. It looks pretty cool, I think they are haveing issues with getting the snow to set up, but it should be good.

Take a look at the web cam. The base area by the Sully is pretty much gone. They could do it, but, it would not be worth it. Sorry for the potentialy misleading previous post. Belleayre, here I come.

I don't know for sure, but, the highest up want's to open. I have been riding around, pulling in fences and signs so they can push snow around for the weekend. I can't promise anything, but, we have a ton of snow left. We may not have everything available, but, we could have quite a bit.

We were open till 10pm.

You cant run lifts when operators cant get there, and they wont turn if the safety devices wont let them. You must always weigh the risk - benefit ratio and err on the side of safety. I know most of you will not like that answer, but, my guess is you don't own an insurance based business either. Part of "risk management" is creating as "safe" of an environment as you can in a very "unsafe" environment. On a cold, windy, snowy and dark night, it would take us close to 2 hours to rope evac a quad (with a little luck). Factor in a decreased staff (like friday night), and that time goes up. Now I am not fully versed on what the "issues" are with CB's detachables, but, if the likelyhood of a malfunction increases when you add the weather variables, then I am OK with them shutting them down.

Of course we close them just to piss people off! It obviously has nothing to do with safety, wind, ice, or anything like that. For the number of people that were here, the Bailey lift was plenty. The groomers got out on the rest of the mountain early, so whatever falls later tonight will be on top of fresh groomed. It will be sweet. We had wind around 25-30 with gusts up to 60mph coming straight up and from the north west across the mountain. Maybe our exposure is different than other places, I don't know. I would prefer to not have to do a lift evac because someone wasn't being cautious. If you made your decision to not come out tonight because you can only ride high speed lifts, than I feel sorry for you. I had a whole bunch of really good runs in some really good snow. Tomorrow is even going to be better, because the east side was preserved a little. Go ahead and fault us for leaning towards safety and cautiousness. Remember that when your stuck on a lift that was derailed by the wind and you have to wait to be rescued.

Here we go, the direction of the wind has more to do with it than anything. I am also pretty sure that if the grips get too much of a build up of ice and or snow they become faulty. Remember how long ago CB got there detachables? When did Blue get theres? Just maybe they have improved on the tecnology in recent years. Who else has high speed lifts in the pocono's that are more than 10 years old? As for the daily reports from Craig...why should he waste his time when all you guys do is whine about them.

Bird has it all, however, usually the way to do Utah is to follow the weather reports and go with the snow. 9 times out of 10, the Cottonwood Canyons (Alta, Snowbird, Solitude and Brighton) have the best snow. If your looking to get away from weekend crowds, go to Snow Basin or Powder Mountain. Really you cant go wrong out there.

They haven't been "pushing" any snow around while it was warm to prevent "extra" melting. We have a ton of snow, and when it gets cold tonight they are going to cover any thin spots and the snow will "whiten" up again.

I'll be heading to Tahoe on Sunday. Big snow the last few days. Taking the Atomic Pimps (twin tip powder ski). Might be taking the tele's too.

Just before I left today, I heard some talk about the weather report. They were saying that they were going to take the chairs off of the Stevenson because of the probability of icing. They also planned on switching to the Bailey chair and shut down the Sully if the ice happened. Unfortunately, they have to make decisions based on weather reports sometimes. The Stevenson seems to be extra sensitive to the weather thing, not sure why.

I'm not a gate skier, never liked waiting around to ski. I do tend to glide pretty well though.

Yes, I have much mass there is a little bit of ability in there too.

I just came in from tele'ing all morning. It is very nice out. Much like yesterday, with a little haze. Snow conditions are good, I'll go with "variable" with some loose granupacpow. Hows that for a word. They made a few more changes in the Rhodo park. Jibzilla moved down a ways and is set up kinda buried in a hip sorta thing, interesting I think (may need some adjustment). The C-bow is near where Jibzilla was and was having some work done to it by the park crew guys. The wall was fixed (better tranny). All in all it looks pretty good. I'm curious to see what some of the skeptics say. I think it is better, but, what do I know.

We close it at that time every night, since the beginning of the Stevenson. Not only does it take a long time for some to make it down, ski patrol, "sweeps" (checks very closely) every trail (and in the woods) to make sure there are no leftovers for the groomers. That takes just under 45 minutes. Then we have to do it again on the rest of the mountain. Sometimes we have to make a few trips, depending on how many volunteer patrollers show up that night. An accident at that time really slows things down. Sorry.

I just came in so here is a first hand report. STAY HOME it is really awful, I am the only one that should be out there! j/k. Actually it is nearly perfect. Bright sunshine, great temps, decent snow, and no crowds. As for the park, it looks like they moved the f/d/f, the 40' flat, and added a hip, and re-did most of the takeoffs and landings. The gap ons are still pretty big (scares me) and the wall, well, lets just say it makes a good wind block. The park crew guys seem to be liking the new setup (for what that is worth).

I understand the disappointment, it is obvious to everyone that there is need for improvement, unfortunately, nothing happens instantly (especially here). I believe some of the problem is the amount of time it takes to change and or "fix" the parks. It occupies a ton of time for the groomers who also have to take care of the rest of the mountain. I know this is not a great excuse and maybe just my opinion. As for possible closure reasons; 1 Park crew chose to close it due to excessive wear from the comp. 2 Visibility due to snow, fog, lighting, etc. 3 Ski Patrol found conditions to be too poor (not the case this time) and a few "bad" reasons which are being researched right now, but, it was not because of a financial benefit or despite you. I promise (if that means anything)

There is an explaination for the reason, I do not know it, Craig is researching it, but, either way, you will not be happy with it, no matter what it is. Oh, and by the way...I have been to quite a few other mountains, and see what is going on. I have said that I agree with some of what you say and have tried to help out. I personnaly do not ride park other than maybe a jump or a slide here or there, but I do talk to alot of riders and ask questions.

As for trail closures, Ski Patrol is responsible for "checking" each trail before letting people up the lifts. Some of this is done on snowmobiles, and some on skis or boards. If there are problems that cannot be easily corrected, we may close a trail at the last minute. This may not be immediatly reflected on a morning trail report. I understand being upset if your favorite trail is not open, but, if it is closed, it is usually not because it is in really good shape.

I do not understand a few things I guess: 1. Exactly what lies where you told? They did get a Zaugg, they built a larger pipe, they made more rails, they expanded the park both physically and with additional features, they have a park pass system, and probably some other things I can't think of. They never stated that they would have the best park in the world and be perfectly set up and designed. It is way better than it was, and has improved over the course of the season. Yes, it is not as good as some places, but it has improved. Marketing is just that. I am reasonably sure that the focus of the campaign was not at you and only you. It is designed to lure in more guests. You may call it lies, but, Ford is not the best built truck in America either. My point is, you and others are not happy with how the parks turned out, we get it. Changes have been discussed, maybe not formally, but , there is talk going on. 2. Why is it you (and others) can say whatever derogatory remarks about CB you want to, but, if it is rebuted you cry foul?

The decisions made to close trails or areas or features or whatever are very rarely fiscally based. Again, I do not know why the pipe was closed (other than to piss papa off) the other night but, it was. The Stevenson and east mountain trails being closed yesterday started off as a safety thing with the lift icing issues. I believe they decided to leave the chairs off and protected to avoid problems. I was upset too, cause I wanted to ski over there as well, but, it is what it is. I got it today and am smiling.
