Dang, you're living it up. I figured you're a Motel 6 or Super 8 kinda guy. The breakfast at the Comfort Inn at Rutland is pretty good, the cereal was fresh Frosted Flakes and the milk was nice and cold.

Tried 6 and 8 and learned my lesson

Best Western right off Interstate gets my vote for a place near Stowe. Nice breakfast there too.

  2. Hampton Inn is my go to chain. Nice beds and breakfast buffet, always clean. Often choose them over cheaper options. Especially with two kids a good breakfast is worth it. Holiday Inn Express has also impressed with their breakfast buffet. Some places are just crap with prepackaged muffins and/or cold cereal.

Boot up at Jackson Gore to avoid the steps and the slow lift at the main lodge.

Is the short lift up from JGore much faster than those up from Clocktower. Can't say I ever paid attention to duration. Either way it is a pain to have to take a short lift to access the main lift.

I'm thinking there's a chance the joint pass might be on the table next season since they offered the Camelback add on back in December. That would be excellent. Then I'd consider the Ikon Pass since I'd have another local mountains to ski besides just Blue all the time. Any Blue insiders have the scoop?

Adding both Cbk and Blue to Ikon is my real hope, as they are all affilated with KSL / Alterra

Great bargain. You'll save a lot. Maybe the girls will want to buy season passes for Blue Mountain the True Mountain after seeing how much better it is than everywhere else. They will see the light and it will be Blue!

If a joint Blue /Camel one becomes an option I will see if they want to consider that, but on the whole they seem to prefer variety.

Still would be nice to take them back for a day if Friday is clear

Are you planning any trips out west?

Nothing planned yet but I hope to go some time after March 10. Til then I am too busy due to playing guitar in a HS production of Grease (rehearsals are why I can't ski Monday and what I did yesterday afternoon).

  7. Bummed about the forecast. Seems everywhere in NE gets major rain and thaw on Friday then a deep freeze overnight to ice everything up formthe Pres Wknd hordes. Will likely sit Sat out and hope they can groom it into something worth skiing by Sun as I have commitments for Mon. Bummer for a weekend I had hoped to ski Fri Sat and Sun.

This may well be the year I ski the least number of days in quite a while, though at least I have already matched the 16 I hit in 2015/16. My lowest total since then was the 25 I skied in 2018/19 when we had the Blue passes. I expect I will need a positive change to current weather trends or a couple western trips to top that this year. No chance of getting near the 41 I skied in 20/21.

  8. Girls 1st trip down White Lighning today. No falls.

Good time to give it a try when snow softened up this afternoon and it had been recently groomed.

Tells me they can now ski anything in PA when conditions are decent.

  9. Not sure what all this discussion of being an expert skier is doing in a PA skiing (& riding) forum.

OK there are seriously steep (albeit short) headwalls on WhiteLightning, GunBarrel and (reportedly, I havent skied these) WildCat and Extrovert.

How was the skiing and crowds?

I stayed on Paradise lift (new quad on East Mountain), and got 10 runs in 2-415. As a single I never waited more than 5 min and half the time 1-2 min. In PM it was hard pack and slick on Floyd's (lots of yard sales) and Challenge. Much nicer carveable surface on TBolt and upper runs of East Mtn.

If there are any other posts you would like to pay me over $500 not to make please notify me in advance.

An article about how expensive skiing can be.  Or it can be dirt cheap. Most of us are spending almost zero on skiing Blue this weekend.

    https://www.insider.com/colorado-skiiing-expensive-weekend-what-it-costs-2023-2?amp

I've spent exactly zero skiing Blue since 59 months ago when I spent $597 on 3 passes that got us 42 ski days for $14.25/person/day.

It is?  If that’s the case why wasn’t montage fully open after the Xmas cold spell

I cant read minds but it would be reasonable to not do so knowing it was going to warm up and rain so drastically a few days later that all the $ put into snowmaking would Xmas weekend woulf be washed away NYears weekend before those $ were recouped in extra lift ticket sales.

  14. 3 nights followed by 2x24 hr periods is enough time to fully blanked a bare mountain with good ski conditions. Hope they make the most of it and hope the forecast is wrong about the 10 days after that.
