A tragedy when someone dies so young. But the only significantly risky aspect of skiing by any objective measure will always be driving to and from ski resorts on mountain roads in winter conditions, not going downhill on skis.

High deductible plan.

Thanks, it was just a way of telling the story. Dr. was confident she will be fine when cast comes off in 4 weeks, and advised that cast provides ample protection for continued skiing

Sunday will have been my most expensive day of skiing yet. Daughter hurt her thumb falling on the first run. First aid examined it and thought it was a bruise that needed icing, but advised that if it did not get better in a few days we should see a doctor. Saw 2 and a radiology center. Turns out it is fractured, and now in a cast. Awaiting bill. To her great credit she got up and did 7 more runs, did them pole-less due to sore hand, and learned to "skate" as a result.

It really is a lot like VT, at least in terms of the length of the drive

Yep I was not an organized activities person either. Mostly I was always trying to organize my own bands and stuff. Did enjoy overnight camp starting at almost 11. My best friend to this day I met there.

It is crazy how scheduled my kids are. When I was in elementary school our after school hours were basically structured ala "have fun, be back by dinner, try not to ride into any cars while popping wheelies without a helmet"

Seriously, WTF is with this Weather?

And off my car -
I suspect the Poconos attract more from Philly than from rural PA. Not that I think Trump election has made anyone afraid to spend money. And you may have noticed I am not a fan of him.

Yep mostly ski alone these days unless with my kids. But not really an issue as its not like I ever went down a mountain holding hands with someone.

Certainly have not made it to Blue for opening recently. Gotta try to do it more.

608 vert. on Phoebe Snow lift that serves Northface. Not that long and not that fast. But zero lines, empty runs, and White Lightning (with steepest headwall in NEPA by far) and Boomer (my fav) are only groomed a couple times a month. Also some real technical trees off White Lightning and some easy trees on the top part of the mountain (when Long Haul is running that is 914' vertical to top). Not a place I would go on weekdays when crowds are sparse everywhere, but a great option at peak times, when I can get 5-6 608' runs in per hour. At Blue, not being eligible for the VIP line, it would be 2-3 1050' runs on much more crowded and skied off slopes, a lot more aggravation in line, and a more expensive ticket.

Northface on Montage, where all the interesting skiing is, I have never waited in a lift line for more than 1-2 minutes even on a holiday weekend. On a normal weekend I ride the quad lift solo half the time. Will likely be there one day this weekend. I frankly don't understand how they turn a profit on their skiing. (Or why more folks don't take advantage of the great skiing they offer).

Works better as a name than as a factual statement, with as long as we have been reading it. -
Had a nice day today from 11:30 to 3:30. Bought my girl some more face protection to cope with the cold. Stuck to the blue stuff as the point was confidence building after a rough last run at Mt Snow. Mission accomplished in that regard. She handled the trees off One Park nicely and learned to propel herself by skating better than she had ever done before. Best run was Dematte's Demise which had a lot of soft snow cover.

Nice. Heading there with 1 of my girls tonorrow.

Nice to get an email saying JF now 100% open. May hit it this weekend.

Historically the term ghetto referred to places that Jewish people were required to live during the Third Reich. TBD what will happen under the 4th. Hopefully if there are new ghettos they will include skiing facilities.
-
Abington. Spring was 40 minutes away, Little Gap 75 min.
-
Nice. First time I was at Little Gap was likely 1981. First and second day on skis probably 1978 at Elk, third day 1980 at Spring.
-
Not skiing with the kids yet I guess?
-
Real nice day. 23 runs. A few fresh inches ungroomed on Boomer and White Lighting starting to form small bumps by end of day.
-
Yep, and get off the Friday before Presidents Day - a prime time to ski with less crowds.
