  1. Seeing some talk about these guys getting slammed with a foot of snow before they reopen Sunday.
  2. I am a lawyer who spends money prudently and prioritizes things like saving for retirement and for his kids college over driving a flashy car. And also pays a lot of alimony for 9 more months and bought my first house this year. College savings starts after alimony ends.
  3. Lawyer, yes. Is that surprising?
  4. Did they replace their tents with lodges since I was last there?
  5. Yep that's what I meant. Fixed now. Thanks.
  6. Doubt anyone was really counting on skiing at CB this weekend when they reserved rooms They have a lot of other options for guests there between zip lines, segway tours, indoor waterpark. Not a one trick pony like all the other Pocono areas.
  7. Mazda 3. Averages 37 mpg for me.
  8. That map is so bogus. I am a lawyer who drives a high mpg non hybrid.
  9. Most years they sell a $99 card good for any three days.
  10. Not a real fan of Mountain Creek. Of the two main peaks one is all park and the other is only served TTB by the Cabriolet lift which I consider the worst of three worlds in terms of lifts. You have to take off your skis to ride it like a gondola, but it is open air so you get cold and you have to stand the whole way up like a tram. About the only way they could make it worse would to be to make you hold on to the rope that pulls the thing up yourself. There is one good steep run off the middle peak, but it is served by a slow lift and is one of the last things they open. And the clientele is young, mostly boarders, mostly New Yorkers and, adding that all up, about as rude as you woukd expect. But I used to live 45 minutes away so I have been there a lot. Though even then I sometime opted for the much smaller place that was virtually in its shadow - Hidden Valley (no longer operating) - which while smaller was cheaper, empty, nice people, normal chair lift. If you are a boarder who loves doing park you may well love Mtn Crk. But for me, now that it is no longer half the distance of the closest other options, I am unlikely to go back very often. Have not been for at least 5 years.
  11. No worries. Worked out.
  12. I forgot it because I decided not to wear my regular pants, just the sweats I wear under my ski pants. Wallet stayed in my pants. Was lucky I had gassed up the night before as I made it home with less than a gallon in the tank.
  13. I was going as fast as 80 in a 65, but not passing lots of people or anything. It was 165 miles each way. I tried three strategies to get a ticket. 1. Went to guest services to see if I could pay via Chase Quick Pay which I could authorize from my bank via my phone. They said no, and also rejected holding something as collateral til I came back to pay them for a ticket next week. Said they might have done it when they were family owned, but no shot now that they were part of a bigger corporation. 2. PM'd someone from this site who said he was going to be at Hunter that day to see if I could get some assistance. Did not get a reply. Can't fault them as I don't generally hang out on my phone checking for messages on this site while skiing either. 3. Figured out I could buy a ticket for the same day on Liftopia. Then called someone I knew well to get them to provide me with their credit card info so I could use that to buy a ticket via my phone. So an hour after discovering the missing wallet I was skiing.
  14. Unless you live on Long Island you do not go through NYC on the way home from Hunter. FWIW my GPS said 3 hours and it only took me 2.5 Sunday AM. Took me closer to 3 going home because when I got there I realized I forgot my wallet (which made figuring out how to get a lift ticket quite a challenge) so I set my cruise control within 3mph of the limit the whole way home. Also more traffic at 4 pm than at 6 am on a Sunday. There are fairly clean and affordable chain hotels right off exit 20 on the NYST, under 30 minutes from Hunter on your way there if you use the NYST.
  15. Would take the kids out for a couple hours on Vista this weekend if open
  16. Feels like snowmaking weather out there tonight. Get with the program pokes or you will be known as slow pokes.
  17. So what PA options do folks think we could have next weekend.
  18. Great day at Hunter today. 3 nice different runs off the top converging on a big snow field and funneling down to some soft bumps. Left around 2 as it was starting to get sled off, as were my legs after 8 months off skis (apart from BB last weekend). No lines at all on high speed 6, no bare spots, wall to wall coverage on what was open. Loving it.
  19. No doubt but Pass doesn't make a lot of sense for my schedule and location that only let's me Ski weekends and vacation days. Especially with the alternative of 4 Pocono Ski days on each $55 Pocono Ski and Ride Card. Would have to ski a lot of days on a pass to come close to $14/day. I am in black from skis to helmet with a little neon green by the ski tips.
  20. Looking to follow in your tire tracks this weekend, probably Sunday
  21. Hunter actually is up to 3 of their 4 main black runs off the top now, though with all still funneling down to one lower mountain route to the base. And there are prospects of the 4th opening later this weekend. They have Hellgate, Cliff and JHuega open and will be working on MK overnight. All with 1470' vertical served by high speed 6 pack. These guys really are, along with Killington, the snowmaking champs of the US. Nice work creating such a viable early season option even with a couple days of rain this week.
  22. From time to time I will. I did so to go to VT last December and will be doing so again this December and might hit CO this year too. I did a lot more ski travel before I was a parent, going 2x to Utah, 4x to CO, once to NM, once to Tahoe. Now I try to spend my vaca time mostly on activities with my kids and they are not yet good enough skiers to warrant taking them out west. Sure I will use an occasional vaca day to ski locally too but doubt I have ever hit 25 ski days in a year. Sorry if it conflicts with my screen name. I will do better if I ever get to retire.
