Closing weekend roll call thread!!!
Ski2Live Live2Ski replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in Blue Mountain
Had fun at Montage. Kids lapped Cannonball most of the afternoon, which is one of the most challenging trails they have done. Real nice coverage on that. No lines or crowds. Three of us skied for $21 total. Have an extra unused 6 hr ticket to Blue if anyone wants it, but you would have to get it in Lawrence NJ. -
Think I will take advantage of this deal, and make it even sweeter by spending the money off the $100 gift card I got for $70.
-
Doing Montage. Less than $30 for tix for 3, and I can pay for it with a gift card that I paid 70 cents on the dollar for making my real price $7 a person.
-
Actually just changed plans on Windham, cause I just found out my free passes for kids are not good on Saturday. Need a new plan. Don't want to take the kids to Blue tomorrow cause I think the crowds are going to overwhelm the narrow trails and the kids aren't ready for Razors yet. Might do Montage with them tomorrow. Need to look into that $9.85 lift ticket deal they are running.

Skied one day when I was 14 then started doing it as a semi regular past time at 15. Probably made it out about 400 times over 35 years, with regularity increasing post-divorce. Most I've ever skied is the 21 days I did last year.
-
Yeah they sometime get jealous, but they get a good amount in. I'm jealous of them having skied as much by end of 3rd grade (25 days) as I had by end of HS. Wonder how long I have until they are better than me. Windham will be an eye opener for them. First time they have skied runs that long or a Mt. that big.
-
Yep on my new skis all day. No lines, no breaks, just skied. Windham with the kids tomorrow will make 16 days for me this year and 7 for them.
-
Very nice day today. 22 runs 1030 to 230. Fav was NM/DW. Also props to Razor (best coverage) and Switchback.
-
BB will be open Friday 3pm through Sunday. $25.

Ok substitute exhilerating for challenging. I am sure it is challenging for some, and the glades along side it would be challenging for many, myself included. As to why this is in a thread from January, I just posted the Shawnee update in the most recent Shawnee thread. Then you chose to initiate a whole discussion of the merits of my comments and the ski area. -

PA residents only? Have they ever done that? Can't imagine why they would. NJ $ aren't green? -

The argument for Montage - based on skiing off the Phoebe Snow lift White Lightning and Boomer are the most challenging terrain in NEPA (WL is the steepest and Boomer generally has real nice naturally formed bumps) Doesn't get skied off for a long time Never a lift line even on holiday weekends Nice glades $29 morning tix on weekends, and they normally let you ski a good past the cut off time with them. Only real down side is the extra drive. Slow Phoebe Snow lift is more than made up for by absence of lines. Really BB over Montage? I have never found much there that is remotely challenging. Where is Tanglewood. Does it still exist? -

Friday they will have 29 trails - everything except Valley School, Challenge, Widow, LG, Upper Main, BBumps, SleepyH, Bbaumer, Skytop, Frontier Alley. Razors will be bumped by Sat if not sooner -

My ranking: Montage Camelback - Blue tie, prefer Blue weekdays and CB weekends Frost Shawnee (Almost never bother with Elk as I'd rather hit Hunter at that distance and price and BB is basically only if all else is closed or for variety after a few hours at JF) But throw kids in and Shawnee goes to #1 -

It doesn't compare in terms of challenge (though it has runs at least as hard as Switchback is when groomed). There are rarely bumps, it has less vertical, and where there are steep sections there is never a sustained drop of more than 300 feet. It does have lots of trees in play when there is good coverage, it is a great place for skiing with kids (mine can do every trail there now, but still find the blacks challenging), and their peak lift lines are well under 5 minutes, compared with more like 20 at Blue. It is also 15 minutes closer to me and lets kids under 46" ski free. All reasons it has been my go to place for skiing with kids. -
Will blue blow Friday night?!!

To be fair I was consuming bandwidth that could have been used for photos of Swift, feuds with ski instructors, or lists of buffets and fast food places. -

Gotta do both new or old. Didn't get my old bindings adjusted to new boots. Posted the details of what I got in a gear thread. Probably bring both as I want to at least do a run or two in the new stuff but have the old stuff in case it is real shaky. Hoping to do Blue Friday and Windham Saturday -

So what do you think, will conditions Friday warrant giving my brand new skis and boots a spin or should I bring out the old pair to endure potentially damaging bare spots. -
Got some Salomon Mission GT boots and Volkl 75 RTM skis today. First real equipment purchase in about a decade, other than poles, goggles, helmet, clothes.

Buffets and fast food being frequented by someone in the tombstone biz smacks of vertical integration. -
