Going with someone who doesn't want to pay for Blue and I figure this is Big Bears last weekend. Always nice to check out somewhere new, and he's driving. Will still use my one left over Blue ticket later this year. Either a weekday this week or Sat the 19th. Figure I am going to wind up eating my $30 Windham ticket as their conditions are looking too crap to be worth the trip.

Gonna give this place a try tomorrow since it is free with my Pocono Ski and Ride card. I will report back. Anyone ever been there?
-
Yes, I understand that. I don't ski the hardest stuff in the Rockies. But I don't shy away from much on the east coast if the conditions are decent.

Seriously, WTF is with this Weather?

I will be out Saturday, probably at Blue -
No I am not certain of their certification. And I understand why they want to do it that way. But it is frustrating because what it is not what I am looking for, and it is honestly hard for me to see the connect between making a smoother turn on a green trail and developing stronger abilities on the hardest stuff on the mountain, which is what I spend most of my time skiing if I am not skiing with my kids.

Depressing -
When I have taken the occasional PSIA lesson I have found it very frustrating that they try to insist on re teaching me from ground zero on trails with no incline rather than teaching me how to do the stuff I like to do a little better.

Pretty tempting. But with Frost not my fav in NEPA, Hunter not my fav in Skills and Mt Snow not my fav in VT, I can't bite even at a very good price for those 3 options.

Heading to Shawnee tomorrow

Crowds on easy trails. No lift line over 3-5 minutes. Blew snow the night before but was too warm to do it today. -
Heading to Shawnee tomorrow

Back at Shawnee today. Trails getting narrow and not real deep but still great skiing surface everywhere. Blue skies and minimal lines. Kids doing all the blacks without any spills, ready too move on to tougher hills next season. Most skiing the kids have done in a day so far too: 13 runs for close to 8000 vertical feet. -

Correct. Sorry for any confusion. -
Fixed thanks. Would have been an even better deal with unlimited access to crotches.

Purchase through April 30 for 599 for unlimited skiing now through end of next season at JFBB, Hunter, Mt Snow, Attitash, Crotched and Wildcat. Cheaper options for younger folks or weekday passes. Www.peakpass.com

No names on them but on occasion (about a third of the time) a ski resort will ask me to show my ski club membership card when I use these cards. Another benefit you can get from your ski club membership is Windham sells a $30 ski club card to ski club members good for one anytime lift ticket and discounts every other day. So if you go to Windham once that pays for your ski club membership right there. My goal for the remainder of the year is to get in a day each at Blue, Shawnee (tomorrow) and Windham to get full value for what I have paid for. May also try Big Bear. Tried Alpine last year with the kids, who mocked what passed for black diamonds there based on their experience at Shawnee. Will not be back there. -

Yep December is where I blow most of my ski budget. But this year it was at Killington and Belleayre. Mountain Sports Club always offers $25 tix to Shawnee with no black out dates, so I usually pick up a couple of those for December skiing with kids. Just checked. The actual name is the PMVB Ski and Ride Card. I imagine that stands for Pocono Mountain Visitor Bureau. The clubs order all the cards at one time, so you need to order them before they put in their order. Get in on it early next year. -

It is called the PA Ski and Ride card. It is offered through clubs affiliated with NJ Ski Counci. Don't have to live in NJ to join. Pay $30/year to join princeton ski club and order as many cards as you like. It is the best deal in PA skiing unless you work for a mountain or ski one mountain enough to bring your per day cost for a season pass under $15/day. That would be about 35 days at Blue for a season pass to be as good a deal. -

Each card gives a pass to CB, JFBB, Blue, Shawnee, Alpine and Big Bear. I generally use the first 4. They are good any day starting first non-holiday Monday in January. -

Yes, with a paying adult. And they count a punch on a PASR card as paying adult. Meaning the 3 of us ski for a grand total of $14 (since I ski 4 mountains on each of my $57 PASR cards). We have gone to Shawnee quite a bit the last couple years. But I am willing to start paying money for them to ski next year so they are not midgets for life. Kids piano recital Sunday. But still have a PASR punch left for Blue so I will be there sometime this season, probably March 12. -

Shawnee with the kids tomorrow for me. Using up my last PASR card "punch" for that mountain to ski virtually free for me and 2 under 46" kids. I expect the last time they will qualify for that there. -
Dammit I want to keep hope alive for options other than Big Boulder and Killington in April
-
Elk cares more because they have to make it up to them if they don't hit 100 days.
-
Maybe someplace that is like VT but without the drive.

I wasn't actually at Gore this weekend, but I skied with someone Sunday at Camelback who had been at Gore Friday and said conditions there were dangerously treacherous - really just a sheet of ice that nobody could make a turn on without razor sharp edges. And there is a current news item that enable experienced skier lost control skiing a "packed powder" double black "Lies" and careened of the trail and hit several trees before dying. So I would be quite wary of skiing there until they get or make some decent snow. How often do you get folks relocating their ski plans from Gore to Camelback for better conditions?

Was at an open bar event sat night. Not conducive to an early start.

Had a change of heart when I got a later start and figured Blue would be crowding up. Will probably hit Blue the 12th and aim for an early rise.
