  1. No crowd. Rode lift solo more often than not. And 3/4 of people got off lift at mid station so steep stuff up top was the least crowded. Remarkable so few people were there on a weekend with this being the only skiing south of Gore or VT.
  2. Sorry no pix. The trail they had open was full width soft cover no ice, slush or bare spots, until parts of it got fairly scraped by 230, at which point I left. No lines. 18 runs. Top half was steep enough to make me gulp a bit, and bottom half still fun too. No bumps. Not making snow on open trail, focusing that on lower half of Mt so they can get some stuff open for novices too. As great a day as I could have on one trail of manmade with 800' vertical. There had been half an inch of so of natural snow too so everything surrounding still had a bit if frosting on it.
  3. Loading the car
  4. Belleayre also offering a deal where if you buy a ticket now for any day from 21st through Jan 2 and you get a voucher to come back free any non holiday day.
  5. Yest they are trying. And offering $25 tix if they do
  6. Blue rising to challenge saying they may also open Monday for sneak preview
  7. I actually think opening Monday is a sort of silly idea. Save the snow in whales to minimize melting and groom it out for the 26th when you will get crowds. There will not be many people out there this Monday. I figure CB is doing Monday to get noticed as open so folks book hotel rooms for Xmas week.
  8. Belleayre confirms 800 feet blacl and double black vertical of Onteora for weekend. 29 degrees now with low tonight of 16 and staying in teens or 20s all weekend and may get a little snow. Expect I will check it out on Sunday. $40 flex tix for Sunday available via Potter Bros. Think I may go Sunday. Should be pretty good.
  9. Probably hit it the 25th unless I find something better for that day. Love the lack of crowds skiing xmas. May do Belleayre this Sunday. See what they will have ooen.
  10. Length of season counts. CB was open later in Spring and is opening earlier in Winter. I am not a pass holder so I have no dog in this race. I ski the best place on any given day.
  11. If they succeed while Blue putters around another month they could grab firm hold of #1. Looking at CB mountain cams reveals they are counting some unhatched chickens though
  12. CB also has more motivation to get open before holidays as they are trying to rent hotel rooms for holiday week. What CB plans to open amounts to 1.5 green runs from top of Sullivan Quad (2 runs up top funneling into 1 at bottom) 2 runs (one blue ski run, one park run) from the Glen lift that goes about 2/3 of the way up. 1 learning slope
  13. Blue may have more of a challenge being further south, and may have less motivation with their no Xmas policy.
  14. Got an email from CB today. As official as it gets until the lifts actually start spinning.
  15. 8 trails and 5 lifts with $30 tix. First real skiing in PA unless Blue pulls a monkey out of their ass this weekend. I'm dreaming of a white Xmas in pa
  16. Hunter pushed back reopening to 26th. Belleayre is the only day trippable still intending to open this weekend. Interesting that the 3 ORDA mts are the ones trying hardest in NY.
  17. Been around here a few years and don't get the reason for all the GSS hate. But then I have never met him in 3d
  18. Nice to remind ourselves every now and then that it is not even winter yet on the calendar.
  19. Probably closing on a house and moving late January so any major trips will be Feb or later.
  20. Could be. Don't know. The worse skiing remains around here, the more I will travel further afield, whether to VT, CO or UT.
  21. Seems like I got to Killington at their peak period for this season so far. 25 trails open with TTB from 3 peaks with no Walking.
  22. We need a dislike feature this year more than ever
  23. To the extent it causes bigger temp swings it is possible winters could be less predictable. My point is that the amount of warming will not ruin local skiing in our lifetimes. Fluctuations can help as easily as they can hurt.
  24. You all get that the amount of change predicted from global warming cannot conceivably produce temperature swings in out lifetime of the magnitude of this warm spell any more than a cold snowy winter would disprove global warming. This just falls under fluctuation that occurs from year to year.
  25. Platty now pushing back their hoped for opening to the 26th
