  1. Hamilton. Closer and easier to park.
  2. Not able to move (actually under contract to buy a house now) . Gotta deal with commute. But it's all on train so I can read and do stuff on my phone the whole time.
  3. Commute ranges from 1:15 to 1:30. Last year I had a 25 min commute, but I make about 35% better $ with longer commute.
  4. Got 2 early season BOGOs for K so my buddy and I will ski 2 days for price of one. Booked a room at Inn at Long Trail. I suspect by that weekend K will have as much to offer as a fully open Blue. If after Sat we feel we want something else we may hit a different place on Sunday. Also leaving from work in Jersey City Friday which cuts the drive considerably. I can be at the Inn only about 3 hours later than I would get home from work.
  5. Belleayre now projecting Dec. 4 Unless BB surprises, closest skiing this holiday weekend will be Gore or Jiminy. And once you are going that far, I would think it made more sense to drive to K for the longer runs. Looks like the start to my Skison will be Dec 5 at Killington
  6. The kind of bonus that keeps a ski area solvent.
  7. No more walking at K as of today. Full runs off K1. Hunter announced not opening this weekend on FB. Belleayre announcement promised today.
  8. That is exactly my point. Surprise open today with tix for canned food. Then make real money on Friday to sunday.
  9. If they want to be open this weekend I expect they will do a surprise opening tomorrow as they won't want to blow holiday weekend revenue on the ski for canned food thing
  10. K now predicting t2b for Turkey weekend with 1640 vertical runs from the k1 express gondola
  11. Belleayre indicates tentative plans to open on Black Friday. If they pull it off that would be the first available skiing for someone who's got a good reason for taking the easy way out (that is, a day tripper)
  12. At least it's closer to the Rockies
  13. Wonder what the last new real trail was in Eastern PA. Was it Nightmare?
  14. PSAA site indicates this trail will be open in their 40th anniversary season (2016-7)
  15. Plattekill is definitely the most challenging place in the Catskill and when they have a mid week powder day and leave it all ungrounded it is pretty unique as an east coast experience.
  16. Love Plattekill but it adds 30 to 45 min each way making it more like a 7 hour rt. Went there a bunch when I lived closer but that is pushing it for a day trip. Will choose Windham as often as Hunter, and sometimes Belleayre.
  17. 3.5 hr rt to Blue/CB vs about 5.5-6 rt to Hunter is a signif difference. But I don't do a pass anywhere I like to change it up.
  18. Montage is an extra 30 minutes. But I can ski all morning and typically an hour or two into the afternoon for like 27 without ever waiting on a lift line. Catskills are an extra hour, but I can ski stuff that's a challenge instead of just a Challenge and not be wanting more at the end of each run.
  19. I guess another factor for me coming from NJ is that if I am up early enough to get to Blue by opening, I am up early enough to either go to the Catskill for the day or take advantage of the cheap AM ticket at Montage, where the black diamond stuff never gets crowded.
  20. If it's a powder day I can see a reason for first chair. Fresh courd? Pfft.
  21. Still holding out hope for Killington on Dec 5 and 6
  22. Translation into non meteor geek skiierese?
  23. Maybe not last year on Chute, I have been skiing the place since about 1980
  24. Sorry I meant chute as you guys figured out
