  1. Great place to teach kids to ski. Wonderful Sunday nj ight deal and we found a great instructor there 2 years ago. Now they are past it.
  2. Pretty good amount of vaca time, but don't know how they are about actually taking it and would rather be nose to the grindstone a bit when I start rather than coming in asking about scheduling vacation.
  3. Ok sounds like Zermatt or stay home then. Any thoughts on what they or others in the Alps have to offer this early?
  4. Yeah may decide it's not worth it. But speculating is entertaining and building the stoke. Picked up my kids season rentals, dropped of my skis for a tune, and ordered the Mountain sports premium membership with 2 shawnee tix for 55 this weekend.
  5. OTOH could likely get to Denver on Frontier frequent flier miles, get a cheap lodging deal at A-B this time of year, and spend a lot less time in transit. Not yet sure what the week will be so I will see how this unfolds and check conditions and price it out then.
  6. Going to have a week off between jobs in late October I would like to take advantage of. May see how much Zermatt would set me back. Never skied in the Alps.
  7. So if you were looking to fly somewhere to ski in mid to late October, what would be the best bet. Seems like A-Basin is projecting mid October opening, but I am guessing somewhere in Europe would be the real deal.
  8. I doubt it. Certainly fewer distinct top to bottom runs.
  9. Nice plan. They want to challenge c back for "horizontal" Anyone got the full view of that plan and a bit higher res?
  10. Are we getting that open to start the season? Or when? Any other new developments for this year?
  11. Was up there for Peach Music Fest this weekend and did all the Waterpark attractions too. Good time.
  12. Don't blame me, I skied more days than any previous year and gave 2 members of the next generation the bug too. Didn't pay squat for it, but at least we added to total ski visits. 21 for me 10 for one kid and 11 for the other. So I added 42 to the total count, 40 of them in PA. Also threw a birthday party that got 10 kids into snow tubes.
  13. I have a hotel room 3 hours south of Killington for a work thing Monday, so going there would only add about 6 hours of driving which is not too crazy. Gonna see what they have open and what conditions are. I'll do some bumps but I'm not an expert in them, more someone who makes it through them without a lot of grace, so I won't ski them all day. Only when I'm talking about her in the context of the kids, otherwise it's usually "my ex"
  14. They spend alternate weeks with their mom so it is about 50/50 whether I ski solo or with kids. If I am with kids it is usually with both, though there was one exception this year.
  15. Corrections, and adding one more day skied for three, the total is actually $1165 for 21 days of skiing for myself, 10 days for 1 kid and 9 for the other, making it (without amortization) about $29 per person per ski day and still $2.50 per person per run. If you look at lift ticket only expense, I spent $13.70 per person per ski day and $1.22 per person per run. 50/50 chance I will hit somewhere in VT on May 10, in which case I will recalculate. Kids are done though - returned their seasonal rentals Sunday.
  16. Mayday May 9 they were saying. Wonder why they aren't doing it May 2. Either way, I'm done unless I take a trip to VT next weekend.
  17. So I guess PA and NY are now closed and VT is now down to Okemo, Killington, Sugarbush and Jay, right? Gonna require getting crazier and crazier to ski. Glad I made it to BB Saturday to stretch my season to 21 ski days in 22 weekends in 6 months.
  18. What's the issue with bike helmets instead of ski helmets on a hot day? The point of helmets isn't to look cool.
  19. Too hot for ski helmets and kid gotta wear something and dad's gotta set an example. 200k ain't 2 mil but it ain't bad for a day tripper working single dad 100 minutes from any skiing
  20. Nice day. No line over 5 minutes. Bunny elbow had the dirtiest snow I've seen (no bare sports though), bunny schuss is actually closed with a large unpassable dirt stretch. The two open black diamonds were in fine shape as were the two parks which were skiable even for non park kids. There was some skiing through water near where the lift let you off but the slopes were fine. All the snow was of course real slow with the temp peaking at about 70. Sounds like they may even try to open next weekend, but I expect it will be limited to Love Park as there is a pretty thin bridge of snow connecting the eastern slopes to the merry widow lift and I don't see that lasting. Glad to get my day 21 in and make my 200k vertical - both personal records for a ski season, and give my kids a 10th day on skis this year. On the way home we took a detour for a beautiful hike at Dingman's falls. We were in short sleeves wind breakers and bike helmets for skiing, but plenty of folks were just in short sleeves and shorts and one guy was shirtless.
  21. Heading there now. If you see someone skiing with girls in green and pink jackets say hi. One blue trail and one black trail works for us the 3rd weekend of April
  22. These JFBB guys are so terrible about providing info. They would get a lot more folks coming if they gave a report the night before.
  23. About $1100 for 20 days of skiing for myself and 11 days of skiing for one kid and 10 days of skiing for another kid including 4 lessons, new poles, ski pants, boot bag, seasonal rentals for 2, and ski club membership. That comes out to about 45% lift tix, 24% gear and 24% gas and 6% lessons. Figure that is about $25 per person per ski day and about $2.50 per person per run (considering the boot bag and pants could be amortized over multiple seasons - poles were a this year expense as I lost my poles in a ski parking lot and needed to replace them) Feel pretty good about that deal :-)
  24. Kind of an embarrassment to the Catskills if BB can stay open longer than Hunter et al.
  25. Intended to go when I woke this morning but things came up. Off to bike ride instead. Hello spring. 20 days and 196.8k vertical not to shabby for a non pass holder with no overnight ski vacations. Don't entirely rule out a day at Gore or Whiteface if they stay open.
