  1. Whatever fits in my jacket pockets for lunch on the lift.
  2. What is exit 87 gonna do for skiers? Short cut from tpk to BB? Is that it?
  3. Awesome day at Shawnee. 11 runs including the kids making it down a black diamond 4x just 1 year after their first lesson. Sure its a Shawnee black diamond, but for 7 year olds it is quite an achievement. The day is within sight when a ski day for them will be one for me too. Less base than 2 weeks ago, but more open terrain and nice carvable conditions
  4. Try to avoid skiing on crowded times like weekends and on the easier blue trails where beginners first step out of their comfort zone. Biggest risk is other people who don't know what they are doing. Also don't get your bindings set too tight. Better to have them pop off more easily than not easily enough, if you want to avoid injury.
  5. If you are looking for a beginner package with lift, lesson and rental, you can get them for $49 for lots of PA ski areas here: https://www.skipa.com/deals/first-time-offer/buy-first-time-package
  6. Heading back tomorrow for another day of three people skiing for a grand total of $25 :-)
  7. So rain fell at Blue, eh? What fell further north in the poconos? Planning on taking the kids to Shawnee Sat.
  8. SkiBarn has a nice $109 seasonal rental deal that includes a book of coupons that get you free youth lift tix at many resorts. I used the one in Lawrenceville. And if you role over your deposit to the next year it gets you a 20% reduction in price that year.
  9. It's a Hard Rain Gone-and-fell in central NJ last night and this AM
  10. May head to Catskills instead if Terrain at Blue is minimal, as seems likely. Particularly if they dodge the rain further north.
  11. I will be skiing somewhere. Not sure where yet.
  12. Great day with the kids at Shawnee today. 11 top to bottom runs, no lines, soft snow, and they learned the new skill of riding the lift unaccompanied. Called it quits when their legs did. They are starting this skison better skiers than they were in April :-)
  13. I am a single parent half the time so these are days with the kids one way or another (not that I am complaining about that). No better way to spend our time together than on the snow with them learning to ski.
  14. Not a place I bother skiing on my own but a great place to go with kids. Sounds like they will just have one green top to bottom run off the high speed quad (and the school slope) open this weekend. But that should reduce the crowds and be fine for the first day of their skison. At least it will make it harder to lose them :-) And conditions should be great as they seem to be in the area where 10 to 12" are forecast.
  15. Pretty cool. Not much PA there which I guess saves the green pixels from excess wear and tear.
  16. Planning to use one of these to go to Shawnee with my two under 46" kids this weekend. Cant beat getting 3 of us on the snow for a total of $25. Gonna spend more in gas and tolls.
  17. For 11/24 through 11/27 Windham is staying open. Everywhere else in the Pocono and Catskills is shutting down til Black Friday. Might make a Windham trip either Mon or Tues if the Weather looks good. Then may hit Shawnee with the kids next weekend. 3 days in November would be an epic start to the Skison
  18. Also skiable trees to the right of lazy mile before the cut off to sidewinder
  19. Got 20 runs in from 930 to 2 including bumps, jumps and stashes in the trees :-)
  20. Heading over to Blue but wont be there for opening bell. If you folks have any later meet up planned let me know.
  21. Why are the online tix $57 for 8 hrs instead of $40 for 6?
  22. 80-81 skison. The first skis/boots/poles I bought were used rentals there and the polls has "Little Gap" painted on them (looked like it was sprayed through as stencil). Did a fair amount of night skiing there through 1983. Definitely the place I learned to ski more than anywhere else, though I had been to Elk, Spring and Doe (now Bear Creek) before I discovered Little Gap. Also spent a weekend doing Frost/BigBoulder/Split Rock and a day at Alpine. That was the extent of my skiing through the 87-88 skison. After that I started venturing further north and west.
  23. Any chance they are opening Lazy this weekend? Thay would make all of Little Gap except Burma and Widowmaker. Comin down with a bit of something today so I may do Sunday instead of Sat. See how I feel when the alarm goes off at 530am.
  24. Nothing makes a new term catch on quite like GSS harshing on it :-)
