  1. If I were to spend two days in the Manchester region, it would be one day at Magic and one day at Bromley. And I'd probably work a deal so it cost me in total less than 1 day at Stratton, which I would not miss.
  2. Here is how you order (reminder, you also must become a member of the Princeton Ski Club) Mail order form below with stamped self-addressed envelope and check, payable to Princeton Ski Club, before Thursday, November 20, to: George Koscs 118 Rose Street Metuchen, NJ 08840 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NJSSC Pocono Card Order Form Name: ______________________________________________________________ Address: ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Email: _________________________________ Telephone: __________________ Enclosed: $_______ for _____ Pocono Cards @ $55 each. 3. Chincoteague: where the flies are bigger than the ponies
  4. Cool, I'll look for posts about meeting times
  5. If I were setting the pricing, I would offer a full day option and a 4 hour option. Like Windham does.
  6. Definitely hope to meet some of you folks. How do you generally meet up? I'm pretty much a weekend skier who gets out one day almost every winter weekend and maybe some extra times on holiday weekends and between Xmas and NYear. I expect the ski areas don't really make any revenue directly from these cards, but it's pretty under the radar so it doesn't cut much into real sales, and the marginal cost of an extra skiier on the mountain is zilch (or less, because most spend some money there). I'd say the main incentive for ski areas to do these deals are: 1. Expose new people to their hills (lots of folks would have only been to Blue and Camelback of these 6 - perhaps they get the revenue and the others signed on for free to get exposure) 2. Make $ on food/drink/rentals/lessons
  7. I probably wouldn't do it if I was a passholder at Blue or Camelback. I don't get to ski enough to warrant a pass, I like to rotate what mt I ski at, and I can get to the pokes a lot more often than I can get to the skills, so two of these cards is just right for me. I'm also getting the Hunter big lift card and the Windham ski club card which give me lift tix and discounts to both of those. And got a $50 mountain sports club card which gave me another 2 tix to Shawnee (where I ski with my kids, who ski free under 46"). With all these deals I am now paid up for 12 days of skiing (and 4 days with 2 kids also skiing) for an average of $24/day, even not using the Alpine and Big Bear tix on this card (though I might wind up going to one of these wit the kids). Between that I'm pretty much covered. Will also throw in some mornings at Montage, some extra days at Hunter and Windham, and could perhaps hit Elk/Belleayre/Plattekill/Gore at some point in the season - most likely before this card kicks in Jan 6. Got the kids seasonal rentals, got my skis tuned, now all I need is some snow.
  8. Not that I would ever ski more, but I really don't see what they gain by limiting people to 6 hours. If anything it will get people to spend less time taking a break to eat and drink, which is not in their interest.
  9. Not that realistic reselling one of these RFID tix to begin with as you can't tell by looking that it is still valid
  10. I do have a lot more fondness for Belleayre than most people here seem to. They leave lots of the mountain ungroomed and have some quite challenging terrain. There are never lines on the lifts for the challenging terrain. They have a few real nice gladed areas with a new one opening this season. Of course the real relatively undiscovered gem for challenging ungroomed terrrain in the Catskills is Plattekill, but that won't work for your GF who wants intermediate groomers, as there are only a couple of those there. And it 12 miles past the middle of nowhere.
  11. Another perk: if you join this ski club (or pretty much any ski club) you are also eligible to purchase a $30 Windham Ski Club Card (google it for details) which if you order by 12/1 includes a free Windham lift ticket, as well as getting you discounts on other tickets.
  12. Looks like the two choices are 6 hour pass or night pass. Doubt I've ever wanted to spend more than 6 hours skiing Blue
  13. Montage lets you ski trees and even has a designated nicely spaced non steep gladed area up top that lets intermediates get a taste of it And the bottom area at Montage is the most challenging skiing in PA and much of it is often left ungroomed. Their $28 weekend morning ticket is the best deal in PA, particularly as there is never a line for the expert terrain lift even on holiday weekends
  14. I'd go there a bunch more if it had a high speed lift on East mtn
  15. Based on tix I already got I will be 2 days each at camelback, blue and frost, 4 days with kids at shawnee, 1 day each at hunter and windham. May do some extra days at some of these and could well hit montage, elk, bellayre, plattekill and Gore too. I like to change it up. Going the same place too much I get bored. Plus I never get to ski enough for a pass to pay. Generally between 10 and 20 days.
  16. For lots of long intermediate cruisers and luxurious surroundings a woman will dig, it's hard to beat Stratton. For me my one day there was enough. Where are you driving from? Is Gore worth considering? They've got lots of intermediate stuff but lots of challenge too and better glades. Probably save some money on lifts and lodging compared to Stratton as well.
  17. I'd say Bellayre has more challenge than Stratton but you will get more vertical and more cruising ar Stratton. Depends what you like. Never been to Bromley. Why not Mt Snow? That has most challenge in southern VT
  18. Got an email blast from PASAA touting a new lift ticket pricing structure at Blue with only two types of tix (I guess weekday or weekend) and any ticket lasts 6 hours from first use. Anyone know the details. Does this mean no more sunday night discount pricing?
  19. Cool, I see they are planning to start making snow this Friday. Any other Pocono spots announce a tentative opening yet?
  20. No blackouts but only good after 1/5. For details contact gkoscs@gmail.com. It is through NJ Ski Counsel. $30 to join princeton ski club Buy enough of these and its a better deal than a pass for a frequent skier
  21. If you join Princeton Ski Club you can purchase any number of Pocono Ski and Ride Cards for $ 55 each. Each card gets you a day of skiing after Jan 5 at each of the following: blue, camelback, jf/BB, Shawnee, Alpine, Big Bear. Checks must be received by nov 20. Tough deal to beat even if you only ski a couple of these places. I ordered two cards and plan to use each at 4 of the Mts (blue, cbk and jf for me, shawnee with kids - who ski free there), so I will get 8 ski days for me 140 including the dues (and that is not even considering kids skiing free with me at Shawnee). 17.50/day is less than gas. This deal is not on their site but if folks are interested I can tell you who to contact about it (or you could just reach out to club directly)
  22. So I picked up the 2014-15 brochure and see there is a new trail coming soon to the left of Paradise on the map. Anyone know any details or when it will be open?
  23. You can purchase a Mountain Sports Club Premium Membership for $50 that includes 2 Shawnee lift tickets good any day this season. While Shawnee is a bit tame for me to ski on my own, it is a great place to take my kids (who started skiing just last season). And with Shawnee's policy of letting kids under 46" ski free with a paying adult, this becomse a steal, as three of us will get to ski twice for a total of $50 Membership also makes you eligible for deals at a wide range of other resorts, though Shawnee is the only one in PA (2 for one on Superbowl Sunday at Shawnee is another deal you get with this membership). http://www.mountainsportsclub.com/

  25. Had a fine time Saturday at Hunter. Sounds like Gore and Whiteface (and some in VT, NH, ME) are the ones that will be open this coming weekend, and Whiteface may extend beyond that. I still want to ski, but it's not looking too likely for this season with next weekend being impossible for me.
