Seriously, WTF is with this Weather?
Ski2Live Live2Ski replied to Ride Delaware ?'s topic in General Chat
Probably wise in most cases, but time constraints (have to be at or on my way to/from a gig on Sat from 430 to midnight) will have me either at JFrost or RTop this weekend, neither of which have yet opened their most challenging terrain - and I'd rather get a day in with the stuff at skiers' right open than have more days in March with some blues that should be greens open. -

Long range forecast is sure looking depressing. This weekend should at least be the best in a while with good snow making temps Tues-Sat. Expect I will enjoy the Spring skiing Sunday as current trends don't look good for much of that extending into the actual Spring. -
Personally I can't conceive of counting skiing 2 places on the same day as 2 days. Particularly when a shared lift ticket has been good at both for over 40 years. Killington has multiple peaks that are much further apart than JF and BB, but hitting every Killington peak in a day would presumably count as less ski days than a day in which you ski at BB and Frost? Would throwing in a run at Pico make your Killington day count as 2? How do you count the two distinct peaks at Stowe or Sugsrbush? Paging Rhyme and Reason

Pretty nice conditions on the north face yesterday - all groomed out including White Lightning. Some slick spots at first but softened as it warmed. Whistler up top was treacherously icy at opening - a blue but harder than anything else I skied. Lots of folks skiing in Eagles garb breaking into their Fight Song in the lift quque. Long Haul was open - rode that a couple times. Noted it has 180 chairs on it - expect that is a record for PA. I believe Stowe's Lookout Double has over 200. Noticed a President Biden in Scranton - first time I saw that

Yeah looks like you can do Whistler to Lower Runaway off it is all. If so will basically use it to get a run back to the lodge for lunch.
-
Montage seem to have all their interesting runs open - apart from trees - and have gotten more snow than rain this week. Expect to be there with my teens this Saturday - mostly on the North Face, plus a couple runs off Long Haul if they see fit to run it.

Sorry here is a larger image that is more helpful (though not promising) for Blue skiers. Blue Knob is getting some love though. -

Had about 4" of Fresh light snow when Hunter opened at 9, about 6" on Northface when it opened at 10:30, about 8" by the time I left at 3pm. No lines, 19 beautiful runs. My best day of this skison. Still not open: the glades, lower K27, Racers Edge and Hunter West. -

It's a nice clean room and a homey place. Bed feels comfortable. I will be back here again. 6 bedrooms actually. $80 for the ones with a twin bed in addition to a queen bed. -

No coupon and just me - that is their Sunday Nt rate for a room with a queen bed. Half a mile walk to center of Tannersville - so I will leave car parked while I find a place to get food and drink while rooting against the Cowboys. -

Supposed to get 8-12" at Hunter through tomorrow AM. In a $65 room at Snowed Inn 5 miles from Mt to get the freshies. Got 6 runs in at the end of day today before checking in. No lines at end of a Sunday - skipped the crowded part of the day as I was as coming up largely for tomorrow. Nice to see Montage likely to get 4-6" of base building precip as I plan to go there next weekend with my girls. It's finally winter within a short drive. -
Skied here today. Wanted to go somewhere close and easy to see how my leg was doing after a bad fall 6 days ago at Jay - had been limping most of the week. No lines and a nice groomed surface on all open runs with no ice or bare spots. Best run was Snow Chute to Challenge which I did 6x. Looks like they will open Floyd's within next few days unless Sun-Mon storm is rain and sets them back - all they need to do is groom out the whales and make some snow on the run out. River shot is still bare and everything else is open. Leg felt fine being back on skis. Considering heading to VT Sun-Mon to catch tfreshness. AM freshies.

Spent Sunday PM back at the hotel in bed taking ibuprofen and icing my leg. Woke up Mon AM and initially stood up and thought the leg felt good enough to ski, but within the first dozen steps realized that clearly was not the case. If I were at the top of a run and it were a necessity to get down, sure I could pull it off - as I had after my fall the day before. But it was foolhardy to go out for a day when I would be barely skiing, risking another fall, and delaying my recovery perhaps making for less skiing on future weekends. On our prior trips to N.VT the girls had wanted to tour the VT Teddy Bear🧸 Company Factory, but the timing had never worked out with their first tour being at 11 and last at 3 = prime ski time. We had a nice leisurely Hampton Inn breakfast in St Albans and hit that on the way home instead, making for an enjoyable long weekend for them. Fortunately the leg I hurt was the left one and so did not interfere with my driving.

We picked a good day to go to Jay with the tram open this weekend for the first time of the year about 2/3 of the non-glade terrain open. Unfortunately there was a big ice patch on the top of Ullr and I had a nasty fall on it on my third run, bruising my leg badly enough that it was the end of my ski day. The girls skied a bit more without me. Did get a nice pic of them at the top after our first ride up the tram.

West was not great on Sat. They had 3 full runs "open". A black to blue open only to racers A green to blue with a narrow steep fact that was ice A green that was loose granular over frozen granular and was packed with people it was way too challenging for, falling down and skiing into one another. Still doing 6 runs was a real nice way to break up the drive to N.VT.
-
Planning on hitting West Mt for a couple hrs Sat PM to break up the drive to St. Albans. Will ski Jay on Sun, then either Jay or Bolton on Mon.
-
Due to crowding - if I didn't have Epic I would go to Belleayre over Hunter on a weekend or holiday. Or Plattekill if there was good natural snow.
-
I prefer Roundtop to JF. It has more vertical, steeper runs (Upper Gunbarrel has steepest headwall in PA) and smaller lines, and doesn't close at 4. Also a nice locals vibe. For me the extra 10 minutes of drive is worth it - especially times like now when JF has no glades or East Mt open. No interest in BB except maybe as a place to keep skiing when JF shuts.

They just raised that idea last week while we were in VT -

Yeah twins even scoffed at the idea of a hypothetical Blue/Cbk pass for next year. They like some variety in their ski life and don't want to be limited to PA. I have raised them well. -

Cause gas, tolls, miles on a car are not free and time spent driving is a factor too. I don't live 30 min / 20 miles from a ski hill like many of you do. 4 hr RTrip to Frost, 4.5 to RTop, 5.5 to Hunter are my choices. Gotta be decent to make it worthwhile. Will see based on tomorrow's reports if I decide to go for it Sunday. Not asking anyone for a handout, but would be more likely to make Sunday a Blue day if it were free rather than $158 (not sure where you saw 120). -

Not worth it even with my 50% off coupon. But not sure driving anywhere I can ski free will be worth it either, and neither will buying a ticket anywhere else within 4 hrs best as I can tell. Would anyone say what Blue is offering now would be worth the $158+ they are charging for Sat or Sun? -

Anyone else feeling like the best bet for skiing this weekend in the PA/NJ/Catskills region is Big Snow?
