Opening Day Dec 11
Ski2Live Live2Ski replied to Ski2Live Live2Ski's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
Even with Friday being better skiing than Sat or Sun I can't bring myself to take off work and drive 2 hrs each way for 3 x 400' vert runs that are "green", "may as well be green", and "would be green but saddled with park features". Maybe if I hadn't been to Hunter Saturday. -
Yer killin my stoke dude
-
Bummer. Even at 41 degrees?
-
Best bets this weekend seem to be either - Maybe sat afternoon (if rain stops) - Sun afternoon thaw

The 2022-23 ski season thread.

Shawnee just reconfirmed plans to be open Sat and Sun 9-4. Assuming they make it through Saturday still TTB, I will be there Sunday -
Weekend roll call 12/2-12/4…

What weather source and location do you use for Blue forecast? This is Palmerton forecast for Saturday on Weather Channel app. And forecast is basically identical for all NEPA ski reguon. I again predict them being open Sunday only. Though if your point that they never open Sunday is valid, I guess that means they don't open this weekend. Hope to ski somewhere Sunday but won't head out Saturday for 100% chance of 1/4" of rain. -

Won't be shocked if they make that Sunday if its gonna rain Saturday. Though yesterday you said that thought meant I didn't know Blue Mt at all - despite having skied there since you were in diapers. -
Didn't say it was. If I lived an hour closer I would be right there with you. I'm the one getting harassed for enjoying skiing somewhere different each weekend and posting about those experiences on a ski discussion board.

Don't tend to brown bag or juice box it on ski trips. Nor do we often drink beer. Coffee and diet coke are staples.
-
Nah man everybody in the NE has Epic passes these days - hence the crowds. Having both Epic and Indy so I can avoid crowds when I need to is kind of special. Still not as special as parking in the same row in the lower lot at Blue before lifts open every weekend day Dec-March to ski for a couple hours and then drink beer, I get that.

One does hot cocoa and the other does tea now. Try to keep up.

If snow cover on Pennsylvania makes it through the rain forecast tomorrow (and maybe Saturday) - kids and I will be breaking in this year's Indy passes at Shawnee the first rain free day this weekend. Who wants to join us for some low angle turns?
-
Supposed to rain Saturday too. Wouldn't be surprised if they delay re-opening til Sunday.

Tussey PA Peek'n Peak NY Yawn
-
They are announcing at 10 am. The Tussey info comes from someone who claims to have figured out a hack to view not yet live pages prepped to go on Indy web site.
-
Seems likely Tussey is the underwhelming new PA option. Holding out hope for the NY add being Plattekill
-
Turns out Sawmill is already on Indy too. Most likely Tussey.
-
Does not look like they will ever reach my height. More hopeful on them getting to be better skiers than me one day, but they will need to get braver to do so - or wait for my ability to decline with age.
-
Realistically I think it will be one of the 3 places on WNEP card that are not yet Indy (it has 3 Indy and 3 non Indy places) So Tussey, Saw Mill or Big Bear. Big Bear is only one I might ever hit of those. Have been there 3-4 times, but that was when kids were less advanced.
-
I am glad to have both as NE Indy mountains are generally a lot less crowded than the NE Epic ones. Jay is probably their most big league Mt, at least in the East.
-
As far as I can tell the only unifying feature is it being all places not on Ikon or Epic. Several are co-owned with other areas (at least Catamount, Berkshire East, Jay)
-
You post more about the place you have a pass.
-
Indy adding a new PA mountain tomorrow. Elk would be my first choice - fits the Indy vibe nicely with all fixed grip lifts.
-
Announcing a new PA add to IndyPass tomorrow. Will Blue become one of the cool kids?
-
IndyPass is adding another PA downhill resort tomorrow. Who will it be? Can't be any of the 7 Epic ones and they already have Montage, Blue Knob and Shawnee My order of preference: Elk Blue (unlikely) Camelback (unlikely) Bear Creek Big Bear Spring No way I would even bother with any of the other 5. Also adding a NY one - hope it is Plattekill
