I was at Hunter today. As nuts as the lines for the lifts from the base were after 915 or so, the F lift was never more than 8 minutes for a single and the North Face lift under a minute through 1pm. I got 13 runs and 14k vertical in from 845-115 with a 45 minute break, and the only real bad line I waited in was about 25 minutes for the 6 pack after my break at about 11 am. I have had much more frustrating line days weekends at Blue where there aren't really many alternate lifts to turn to. Definitely a day tons of people would have come out with how bad holiday conditions would have been, the fresh snow in NY/NJ the day before, and rain forecast for tomorrow.

Wound up at B.East instead of Magic yesterday, as Magic's lift to summit went down 2 hours after it opened the previous day. They had 5 low key runs open all with decent coverage and soft snow that turned to soft bumps by mid day. Delightful spring skiing. Had good weather at Jay on 30th, which had a good bit more open and nice conditions on the groomed runs, but had a good number of runs with thin cover and bare spots counted among open trails, and they were a chore to get down in places. Found a beautiful virtually untouched powdery run that was a highlight, but then required a significant hike to desired lift so we only did it once

What they had open definitely wasn't amazing. It is mostly known for its glades. But it was skiing in good conditions with zero lines over winter break with my kids.
-
Now is the time I have to ski with the kids and I'm going for the best skiing we can get in now. Magic is supposed to open top, of they don't we will do B.east instead. Shawnee and Montage are blacked out this week and Greek Pean is 3 runs which would get old for 2 days. Don't believe it will rain at Jay. We skied snow there on Xmas when it was rain everywhere else.

Heading back up north after a couple of work days. Likely hit West (en route stop to break up drive), Jay and Magic. Maybe more after that if Sat-Sun forecast clears up. Getting our money's worth out of IndyPass with 6 days from Dec 24-31. Just as glad to have an alternative to the Epic crowds on the holiday week. Only 2 Epic days so far - both at Hunter - but that should pay for itself out west in coming months.
-
Glad to hear Hunter was rockin. Went north and did 2 days at Bolton Valley and 1 at Jay with kids. Limited terrain open at both, but zero lines and snow instead of rain on Xmas. Seemed like the best option on the IndyPass. Gonna work Monday and Tues and then head out for more turns weather permitting after that.

Cause Liberty the ski area bites, as I was trying to explain
-
Having spent about 2 hrs skiing every trail at Liberty once, on a day with perfect conditions, I assume he was talking about the concept and not the molehill. Maybe an anti-vaxxer. Slowest lift I've ever ridden to some of the dullest terrain I've ever skied. Fortunately it was only about a 30 minute detour on my way home from Whitetail. But really that was more time and effort that it is worth.

Nice start Dan! 2 days at Hunter in so far for me. Hoping to over next 2 weeks hit Stowe and either Okemo or Snow on Epic; and Jay, Bolton Valley and maybe West on Indy.

Montage didn't open. Skipped skiing this weekend. Will get back on skis Dec 16-17 as taking Joy to NOLA next weekend.
-
No Indy options closer than Greek Peak this weekend (which is further than I want to go for a day trip to limited terrain) so might take kids to JF or Hunter Sunday - though either is "off pass" for them. Or they may wait to start their skison in 2 weeks.

12/3-12/5 weekend roll call thread.

Not real likely I will hit Blue this year with both Epic and Indy passes. Expect I will use Indy with kids at either Shawnee or Montage Sunday for my day 2. Taking the following weekend off skiing to go to NOLA with Joy then likely start up skiing again somewhere on Epic Dec 15-16 and on Indy Dec 18-19 -
I will likely head up to Montage Sun Dec 5 if they open Northface by then

No crowds at all in AM and real nice conditions for fall. Rode first couple 6 pack chairs solo. Around 1130, after.my break, both lifts were down long enough - with line dispersed from 6 pack, that I decided to split. 6 top to bottom runs for 8800 feet on Hellgate and Belt Parkway wasn't bad for a day 1. Only took me 2:40 to get there. Much longer with traffic coming home.
-
First drive of Skison almost as stoke building as first chair. This will be 6th year in a row I start skiing in Nov. I was a slacker in 2015-16 only skiing 16 days and missing November. Have been in the 25-41 day range every subsequent year.
-
Sunday will definitely be the day to go. Gonna be real windy tomorrow and if wind holds shut down the chair to peak it will be ugly on chairs that go part way up.
-
Might not be that bad for singles line. At least there are 2 full top to bottom runs with 1460 vertical. First day of season my legs won't mind a break between runs that long, and this will get my legs in better shape for next weekend. Expect I can get as much skiing in as my legs want to do after 7.5 months off. I can do Hunter r/t drive in just under 6 hrs, and am more used to driving to ski as even Blue is 3.5 hr r/t and closest place I have skied in last two seasons on Epic is Jack Frost which is 4 hr r/t

Will be at Hunter Sunday

Guessing 2nd lift will be gondola to get people from lower parking to and from peak

He is at least local (from Jim Thorpe)

Nothing certain. Comments on both AZ and FB. Sounds like they are hoping to open Dot Nebel and Deer Run, both off Tomahawk lift.

Report on Alpine Zone that Blue is trying to open Friday. No source referenced. What do you folks think?
