Cool thread. Enjoyed checking out the vids. Wondering what will be next between the impact of Covid, recession, and warming.

One of my earliest ski weekends in the early 80s included a few runs there where we were staying. The next day we tried JF and BB

Skied there with my daughters on its final season due to lift tix coming as free extras on our PA Ski & Ride card. My then 8 or 9 year old daughters mocked the insignificant level of challenge their blacks offered. Not even at the level of Big Bear or Bear Creek.

Def spring skiing day at Hunter One run open (Hellgate etc) with 1450 vert off HS6. Skied strsight onto lift first few runs. Soft bumps formed quick.. Lines were up to 10 min when we called it quits after 7 runs when bare spots and crowds on trail were becoming an issue. Mashed potatoes by then. Very nice 1st day out with girls.

Of course the other side - given current trends - is skiing could well get shut down for the season in one or more states next week or next month and if you want to get in any at all this winter this could be your chance (PA seems one of the likelier stated to pull this in light of recent measures and trends and the fact that skiing is less crucial to its economy than it is to places like VT). And in that case it would be worth the price to me to have gotten some in. A key thing I have learned in 2020 - all future plans are tentative. Live each day to its fullest potential as if the options available to you today may be foreclosed by tomorrow.

Reservations are filled for Saturday already. I imagine reservation capacities increase with amount of open lifts and terrain.

I believe you can may be able to purchase an Epic "Day Pass" and ski Hunter now. Not 100% sure - but worth looking into

Hunter opened with 6 trails (aka) 2 TTB runs. Hellgate > Kennedy and Belt Parkway. Got a reservation for 3 of us for Friday. Waiting to hear reports on crowds and conditions and see how much of a washout TDay is to know if I will use it. A long day trip for 2 open runs - but they are 1500 foor vertical runs, one has decent steep, I can only ski one run at a time anyway and it has been a longer than normal Off Skison with a couple hours in the Snow Dome not really scratching that itch.

Doing an album as "Joy & Rob with The Beagles" and want to promote that. Still gonna do some stuff as The Beagles not involving Joy and wanted to keep up a page focused on that and the last album as well. FB pages are free, so . . .

Actually made a Hunter reservation for Friday

Speed so high it is almost a blur

Thats how I did most of my early skiing at Little Gap when I was in HS 75 min away. $10 weekday night tix.

Except PA is now the state that has announced the most stringent rules prohibiting entry from out of state of any of the states I am considering skiing in. Even quarantine will not do to enter PA - a negative Covid test within 72 hrs is required - with fines for non-compliance. That is one factor that has me reconsidering keeping Epic pass. And I am over the top annoyed at PA as well as VT. But yeah if you live 10 minutes from Blue it is a great place to ski from 8 to 10 am.

Hunter opening Wed with reservations for pass holders opening Mon. If we are going to stick with Epic I expect we will start our Skison somewhere between Thursday and Saturday depending on how forecast evolves. So need to decide for sure by then about pass plans.

Frankly I'd rather be sliding down a snow covered mountain - W.C. Live2Ski

Right but at present there are quarantine restrictions that make VT a challenge to go to and PA is actually requiring proof of a covid test within 72 hrs of entry. If I want to avoid either quarantining/testing or violating rules (admittedly who knows to what degree they will be enforced) then the NY Mtns are my best option. Still on the fence. Gotta decide ideally before Dec 1 when ORDA prices go up and def by Dec 7 (last day for Epic refund). Or may just bag pass this year entirely - instead using things like ORDA Freq Skier Card, maybe an Indy Pass. Hopefully will get some reports on what enforcement is like before I need to decide.

I figure it was the possibility of three day ticket sales and a hot cocoa that got them to do it. They don't care about you pass holders - especially the ones that tailgate - they got your $. Willing to up the ante and buy separate cocoa for each daughter if they open tomorrow. 6 pack should be nice and spacious riding up in a group of 3.
-
If you drive to VT after quarantining from home you can make food/toilet/gas stops. Seriously considering seeking refund from Epic and instead getting ORDA passes and doing Belleayre/Gore/Whiteface this year.- as NJ/NY seem to have agreed on no travel restrictions between them. Cause it looks like the only place I will be free and clear to go any time on Epic is Hunter - and it could be very challenging getting reservations there if VT remains as locked down as now.

Hey man Hot Cocoas don't buy themselves. If they want to be in the ChocoBiz they gotta lay down some icing for us to slide down to the lower lodge on.
-
I am available to ski Saturday if they care to open
-
Yeah looks like I will be skiing Hunter almost exclusively this winter as long as NY/NJ travel remains unfettered.
