No lines at Belleayre and real nice conditions on both runs to start. Got 12 runs in then was getting a bit scraped.
-
2 week shorter off season + 2 week longer Skison = priceless
Time spent skiing and driving with my kids before they are off to college next Fall is time well spent
Even spending about 225 for lifts, gas & tolls

I may be doing this next week as well, especially if things don't turn weather wise.
For now they are only expressing certainty of being open through this Sunday, as expected to warm up again.

Not a park rat. Look for me at Belleayre tomorrow. It’s been a long 7.5 months.

Belleayre open this weekend. $57 lift tix online. Two runs with 926’ vertical. Pre Turkey Turns!

Lift damage and building damage (which is more likely as they are likely more flammable) are basically the thing you would worry about

Isn’t snowmaking fairly water use neutral since it flows back down to the ponds?
that just means they wouldn’t be restricted in what they use from their pond not that they could draw from public water supply to make snow

Saw Blue posted it is about 4 miles away still - good to hear

Surprised a wildfire encroaching on Blue doesn’t get its own thread
almost ski season!
-
Learned that folks with passes to other mts will be able to get $25 tix this Sat or Sun at Belleayre
-
Belleayre most likely re-opening this weekend with $40 tix Have not ruled out ending the season Sunday where I started it in November - doing the first and last days of their skison and mine there.

Thanks for posting and using the stats manager. Any idea how many miles you drove this season? I’ll take a guess I’d say you drove 7-8k miles this season puts you in the top five for dedicated PASRS
Probably a little over 7k, maybe close to 8k with the ground miles (most via shuttle) on CO trip included. And 14 nights of hotels. Much bigger expenses than ski passes. But great having something like this to share with my teens when so many of us are glued to our phones.
If each of my 34 days was a roundtrip to Blue it would have still been about 6k miles, but no hotels.

Dropped 3 pair of skis off for end of skison tuning today instead of hitting Hunter.
It's over 😞
508k vert over 33 of 128 days
Enjoyed it fully.
Will hold me till late November

Hope it's Vail but would settle for anyone that is more a fan of skiing trees than of planting them.

How was the Epic Mountain Express? I saw a lot of those little busses and vans last year but didn't' know of anyone to actually use the service.
It is a nice service - very prompt and friendly. For 1-2 people it is to me a no brainer particularly with the Epic discount if going to only one Epic Mt as there is really no need for a car in any of those CO towns, as well as the cost and difficulty of ensuring you can renting a traction law compliant car and the challenges of driving through a rocky mt storm. For 3 people I could have saved some money renting an AWD vehicle, but there would have been much more hassle and driving risk involved.
Of course Bustang is the cheaper way to go - but schedules are far less flexible and you have to still get between airport and downtown Denver with all your gear to get the bus. I opted to pay more to use our time and energy more efficiently.

Could you take another cookie after each run? Were the cookies better, the same, or worse than the sugar cookies at Camelback in 2017? Did they serve hot cocoa with the cookies? If so, how did the hot cocoa taste?
Very nice cookies - fresh slightly warm chocolate chip with soft center and crisp exterior. Take one at a time but can come back for another round. There is about a 15 min window they are being distributed starting at 3.

Good bit more than $149/night at the Christy Lodge. We did save some $ on flights with Frontier miles but easily spent $2500 with the room, Epic Mountain Express, meals, baggage fees and parking (not counting lift tix which were free on Epic pass, or our HH purchases). Also free cookies each day.
Bottom pic has the kids on the "Golden Eagle" double black World Champ downhill run off the Bird of Prey lift - which they aced twice with the optimal conditions of of 4" of fresh snow having fallen on top of a recently groomed surface.
Next April: Vail

As of now Blue is selling tickets for the 22-24 and the 29th.
I guess their new line of business is profiting off the interest they make before issuing refunds.

Good to know.
Barring surprise snow I have skied my last PA day and last NYS day.
Looking forward to
4 VT days 3/24-26
3 CO days 3/28-30
That will likely end my season - earlier than any recent year (other than 19-20 for obvious reasons)

Getting a huge upslope storm that is favoring the front range. Eldora go 30” overnight and has a message they are closed today due to many snow slides on the shelf access road. Winter Park got about 14”. I70 closed in both directions. We only go about 3” here but got my morning text that Snowmass canyon has chain laws in effect. That stretch always a mess in bad weather.
Go west young storm 😀
Will be at Beaver in 2 weeks 😎
