  1. Was up at Hunter yesterday. No lines at all. Super soft bumps on Upper Crossover and real nice spring conditions on all the trails on the eastern face (of main Mt, not Hunter East) but conditions on North and West side were pretty scraped. Lower K27 also had real nice soft bumps, but the runout was thin enough in places the one time I did it that I'ms sure by later in the day there were spots one had to remove ones skis to walk. So only ran that once. Sure hope the weather gets back in the gear as it is way too early for the base to be starting to melt away.
  2. More likely to go there than to the other NJ options
  3. Skied nearly TTB in Challenge glade several times on Jan 4
  4. Yeah Sunday I guess. I am only free to ski Saturday, so that is the forecast that has been bumming me out. But Sunday will be a very Joyful day off the snow. Hope for nice whether further north MLK weekend.
  5. This looks like a perfect weekend to learn to ski indoors
  6. River Shot probably has some steeper drops than Floyds, because it is more like a staircase with two drops with a flat area between while Floyd's is all one drop. But i would say having the drop all in one go with no opportunity to stop on a flat area makes for a more daunting run. If you fall, you are a lot more likely to slide all the way down, and if you can't turn well on steeps, you will pick up a lot more speed by the bottom. Also Floyd's is narrower. River Shot has some great views on it though - it is my fav non gladed run at Frost.
  7. May need a new thread on best place to learn manners
  8. Scroll by and/or learn to read without moving lips = problem solved
  9. If folks stop directing comments to me I will stop replying. I only intended to drop in to suggest the Campgaw and Big Snow options. Then a whole bunch of folks decided they wanted to discuss those opinions, so here I am.
  10. Yeah but Lindsey Vonn has skied there
  11. Probably not great. All I am saying is it os the most convenient place to ski from NYC, has everything a beginner needs to learn, and reportedly has good reliable snow. Planned to have my kids learn there when I lived a few miles from it, then they delayed opening for over a decade.
  12. Great place for folks learning, and pretty easy access from NY. Would be my first choice in PA for a beginner coming from NY. Was my girls home mointain their 2nd and 3rd skisons (1st one was at Spring). Also some of the nicer views in the Poconos, along with Jack Frost and Elk.
  13. Blue is a fine place to get on snow and make some turns when you can get a good deal, crowds are light, and it isn't far away. I have skied Blue or Little Gap over 100 times. Sorry if I dont see it as anything more than one of my 4 favorite Mid Atlantic ski areas.
  14. Or maybe because be suggested Blue and this is a Blue boosters board more than anything else
  15. If you don't believe your opinions are better than others, then allow me to state mine without arguing against it. I offered the 2 closest to NYC options ideal for learners that nobody else had mentioned. It was a helpful non contentious contribution to a thread, and folks chose to argue with me.
  16. Sorry, the topic here is good areas for first timers based in NYC, not Blue. If you were willing to drive an extra 3 hrs to ski in natural beauty I expect you would have an Elk pass not a Blue pass.
  17. Ultimately sure, but if all I am going to do is spend a few hours on a bunny slope, the beauty of Blue's valley learning area does not to me warrant an extra 3 hrs round trip drive, less certain snow conditions and likely less pleasant weather.
  18. Yeah the place by the NY/NJ border. Dont see it as making anyone fall in love with skiing but it has all a beginner needs and is very close to NYC. Campgaw is also real close to NYC and tailored to beginners.
  19. If I were just learning and from NYC I would seriously consider doing it at Big Snow - the indoor place at American Dream at Meadowlands. Too small for experienced skiers to get much out of, but the controlled temp should make for ideal snow conditions for learners.
  20. It was PA "skiing" and therefore not in the same league as Catskills skiing, but it was fun getting outside and moving around on snow with my daughters without too much driving.
  21. Real nice Spring conditions especially on Thunderbolt and River Shot and no lines at all today. Fun trees off Challenge.
  22. Go too fast at Frost and you can blink and miss a run
  23. Hope to hit Frost one day this weekend. Possible tomorrow will be the better day as chance of rain reduces in AM. See what forecast shows when I wake. Could well be iced over on Sun.
  24. I really don't know. My best guess is she has a paranoid delusion that I am so bent on preventing her from continuing to have joint custody that I would quit a good job, sell my home, never again see my family and friends, and live abroad with the kids as a fugitive in order to do so. Can"t tell you how glad I was to no longer be married to her even before I started dating someone sane.
  25. Girls' mom won't allow them to travel abroad
