Hunter North area is a lot of fun and would be even better I am sure on a day when all the glades over there are open. Nice that there is never a line over there. It is not the most challenging terrain on the mountain, so I figure the deaths over there are due in large part to misleading sign. There are a couple trails that are listed on the map as blue/black, but the signs on the actual trail list them as just being blue. They come right off belt parkway, which is a blue about on the level of Lazy Mile, but these trails have a pitch more like the double blacks at Blue Mtn. So I can see people seeing these trails that also appear to be marked blue coming off the blue they are on, and seeing them as good options to try, when they are really much steeper (and with fall lines that could send you into woods if you cant turn with the trail)

Great day at Hunter today. Hit at least all the blacks and double blacks and all the Blues on the new Hunter North area. Hit this one trail twice (K27) as it was the most bad ass of the stuff that was open today (only one West side trail was open, and it was groomed). Ungroomed terrain was real soft and nice today. Very different mindset here from Plattekill though, as they groomed most trails into a nice base that will last for several more weeks at least, while Plattekill left it almost all natural to enjoy and seems to be glad to make the most of a shorter season. Of course they also got less fresh snow here (8" to Plattekill's 18")

Could well get up to 8. Would not be surprised if I hit Frost, BB and Snow yet.

This is a pretty low number for me. Only 5. And low number in large part due to having Blue pass Last season - at least 9: JF, BB, Shawnee, CB, Blue, Elk, Montage, Bear Creek, Winter Park

Jfbb dont use stickers. They use tags on plastic bands.

Took some pix later in the day when it got warmer. Will post later. Stayed below freezing all day so will still be awesome tomorrow, ad supposed to warm tomorrow PM. Such a cool place they kept the lifts open an hour after planned closing time as everyone was digging it so hard. In one sign of modernity they did away with the sticker lift tix since my last visit. Is there still anywhere that uses them?

Plattekill absolutely epic today -
Too cold and windy to take pix, going full astronaut, but easily having the best day of Eastern skiing of my life and better than many days that I have gotten on planes for. 18" of light fresh powder for real. 90% ungroomed. No lift lines. Absolutely perfect. Steep steps. Deep everywhere. Lots of untracked trees. Tomorrow they offer free admission to pass holders at other mountains. If you are someone that would ever get on a plane to ski, you should go to the far less trouble it would take to get yourself here tomorrow. If you dont have a pass that will get you free admission, stop on the way up at Potter Bros on 28 and you can get a $60 lift ticket there, which is what I did today. Chose this over Hunter which was closer and where I have a pass, and it was totally the right call. Also well worth missing the free appetizers at Blue to be here.

Dont know that I will make it there tomorrow. I am performing late tonight and likely wont get home before 1230 am at the earliest, which is not real consistent with skiing 3.5 hrs away tomorrow - especially as I am typically too revved up after performing to fall asleep quickly Just giving a heads up for those who can make it. Given my schedule, a late arrival at Blue once it softens up to get some runs in before pass holders party seems more likely, but we shall see. Or if Frost gets snow more than rain maybe head there. Could get sloppy seconds at Plattekill Sunday when they conveniently allow other mountains pass holders to ski free. -

Pretty much self taught. I took a year of guitar lessons at a local music store to learn the basics and am an entirely self taught on everything else. Oddly my parents strongly pressured both my sisters to take expensive classical lessons on 2 instruments each, which they have not touched in 30 years, while I was the rebel who refused music lessons - and I am the one leading 20 piece ensembles, performing, composing and recording. So I am very skeptical about pressuring kids to take lessons - though mine have seen how much joy I get out of it and have opted for lessons. -

I also play keys, but prefer playing guitar so I find others to play it with the band when we use keys. I do write some stuff on piano. Also play a little ukulele (live and on the CD) and percussion (on the CD) and mandolin (never with band). -

An original of mine Only used those Snoopy shirts (which I actually found for sale on someone else's site) that one time, before designing my own logo. -

Thanks. Easel is actually a brand new touch. Thing is we often play places at big public outdoor events where people just pass by and hear us and listen for a bit, and unless we announce who we are between songs, nobody would know who we are or how to find us. And having a sign is less disruptive than announcing between songs. -

In 6 days we are performing 12 original tunes at Havana in New Hope. Performing original material is our main priority. But doing these tribute shows gets our name out there and makes more people aware of us, and is fun. In terms of more recent covers, we have recently done: Shallow (Lady Gaga & Brad Cooper) Heartbeat (Carrie Underwood) Take Your Time (Sam Hunt) Four Five Seconds (Rihanna & Kanye) Down By The Water (Decemberists) Perfect Duet (Ed Sheeran & Beyonce) But those covers are most often with other singers. If something was written in Vanessa's life time, it is generally beneath her to cover it. She made an exception for Four Five Seconds. -

On Sunday Plattekill is giving free lift tix to anyone with a current season pass to another mt - though if you want to use Blue pass I suggest bringing receipt as there is no year listed on pass. -
Live music from a DJ? Does this mean he is spinning Frampton Comes Alive?

No they have not been to Hunter. I dont find the crowds or patrons there any worse than at Blue. I view Hunter and Blue as Catskills/Blue equivalents - the largest and most crowded places in each with the most folks skiing beyond their abilities. Though as with all things Catskills, it is larger and more challenging than PA "equivalents" If they dont like Hunter, they will do more Frost and Snow. Hunter will most likely be my go to place without them. Def the most challenging high speed lift served terrain I can day trip to.
