  1. If I am going to ski both days on a weekend, it makes more sense to get a hotel than to do 2 round trips. But - with Blue getting too crowded to be enjoyable by mid day on weekends, it leaves us with a lot of down time between the ski mornings - hotel options near Blue leave something to be desired - if I am going to get a hotel rather than day tripping, I would generally go somewhere further/bigger/better or if not bigger then go to 2 different resorts on the 2 days - so more likely to do it in Catskills or VT If I lived 30 minutes from Blue (as many of you do) instead of 90 min to get there and 100 to get home, season passes every year would be an automatic buy.
  2. Yep, but 7 visits with my kids before the following year passes go on sale happens only if we dont go to more of a destination resort over winter break and weather doesnt keep us home any time. Also it means we dont get variety skiing other places any of those weekends. And Break even is calculated based on not getting other deals. If I can get a bunch of PA Ski and Ride cards for $75 or so good for a day each at JFBB, CB, Blue and Shawnee (but only after New Years), and use other dealso including the BOGOs we get with our seasonal rentals, we can make out a lot better and get more variety. Really the only argument pro Blue Season Passes for the family next year is the VIP line. I would actually count the break even number of visits as closer to 6 though as the Buddy Pass has value.
  3. At $429 I would not rule it out for me, but it would be not worth it for kids who, only being with me alternate weekends and skiing one day those weekends, would get no more than 7 days in before the following years passes would likely be available the weekend after presidents day. Makes sense to do it alternate years and get a pass good for 1.3 seasons each time. Then the question becomes whether it is worth doing for me is it meant when I skied Blue with kids I would have to endure the non VIP weekend lines. And in the final analysis the answer to that is no as well. Look forward to seeing if Montage offers some real nice deals as they have been on this years passes with sales the last couple months - perhaps they need cash. And will see what Peak has to offer, which could be worthwhile doing even at a higher price if we made Hunter a regular destination and planned a couple trips to their New England mountains instead of going out west next year. Or may go back to PA S&R cards and other deals that can be found.
  4. Whether it would have an impact depends on how other competitive mountains price their products. Were Camelback or Peak to offer a $385 pass, I dont think Blue would be smart to come in at $485
  5. Sheet of ice in NJ. Not even gonna try to drive to my train on roads like this
  6. Nah it would probably be a Friday and a Monday and get 3 days.
  7. If I were gonna pull them out of school to ski we would likely take advantage of the cheaper airfares during non school holiday periods to go somewhere cool to ski. Gotta spend that money we are saving somewhere.
  8. They sold us a pizza and a hot cocoa last visit
  9. We are down to under $15 per skier day on our 3 passes at this point. Shooting to bring it down to 10 if the season lasts.
  10. $99 7th grade deals?
  11. I would expect that a milder impact could damage the helmet's internal protective components without visibly damaging it. And there seems little harm in suggesting things resorts can do that would help them both avoid law suits and keep people safer.
  12. Given that helmets are supposed to be good only for one impact, using a rental helmet really gives a false sense of security and I am surprised they rent them at all (which could lead to liability if they do not test that they are still good after each rental return). Better practice would be to buy then in bulk and offer to sell new ones to renters at a small markup over wholesale.
  13. I dont undersand what this means
  14. Glades and Challenge sucked. Everything else was great, including Falls IMO
  15. Some of the best conditions I have skied at Blue today without a natural dump. Every run (except cookie filled challenge and the glades) was run of the day. Sidewinder best of all.
  16. No twins this weekend, they will be back in a week
  17. I will be there tomorrow AM.
  18. Only one day on skis since they were tuned at Half Pipe, but still prefer less icy conditions.
  19. How well do folks think Blue will recover by tomorrow from today's rain followed by tonight's freeze? Better to wait til Sunday?
  20. Dont know why folks are antagonizing this person. You dont like the offer, pass on it. Is there a rule against selling gift cards?
  21. Nowhere near that, and I am on salary not hourly. But I am one of those lawyers who works under 40 hrs a week and prioritizes time to spend with family, time to ski, time to play music, etc over maximizing my income. Positions like that are a lot harder to come by than ones that pay the kind of rate you are quoting and expect 100 hr work weeks. I make enough to do the things I want to do if I budget wisely, and have enough free time to do them. You could not pay me enough to make it worth spending 100 hr weeks lawyering, unless it was enough that I could do it for a year then retire.
  22. Never been to Loveland, but a lot of places only scan passes on lifts from bottom, so you can get a whole day on a half day ticket by only using upper lifts after mid day.
  23. I used a coupon from Barb for WP last year, got a deal at Copper with lodging purchase this year (which included free tix for kids all 3 days, 1 free day for me and discounts the other 2 days). There are so many awesome places to ski in CO, I figure out which of them I can get a good deal at and go there rather than getting my heart set on one and then finding the best price I can get there.
  24. Ouch @ window price. Last time I paid window price anywhere it was probably no more than $30.
  25. Agree. No reason to waste time driving place to place and switching hotels. Enjoy WP.
