  1. Enjoyed staying there last March
  2. There is room for 2 people behind the hot water fall from the upper pool to the lower. That is where I proposed. I kept the rock in the cottage though.
  3. 11 fun runs with the girls - I think the most they have ever done at Blue. Thought Sidewinder was the best. Did everything open to the public and hit that and Baumer/Lazy 2x. Both glades were nice today. Pizza & Cocoa for lunch.
  4. Sunday for us. Skip the cold tomorrow morning and likely lighter crowds on super bowl day.
  5. I haven't been to Stowe in ages and have no idea what I skied there. Most of my VT skiing was when I lived in NYC or North Jersey and had no kids, so Fall 1988 - Spring 2007. When I have been back to VT in recent years it has most often been with kids in tow, we have not gone north of Sugarbush, and we have not done the real challenging stuff, though they now would be able to tackle a lot more. Saying Rockies are better skiing than VT doesnt mean they are harder skiing than VT. Certainly icier conditions can make Eastern skiing more challenging. I stand by the PA is barely skiing part, but it's what I can get to on a day trip with under 4 hours in a car, so it beats getting fat watching football every weekend.
  6. Boston people ski NH or ME. NYC, Albany, Stamford, Hartford and Springfield and VT people ski VT. And some of us NJ folks. If going for an overnight ski trip that is usually where I will go. Plane travel sucks and adds major $ (even if in form of miles). Rockies are definitely better. But Stowe is as big a step up from PA (barely skiing) as CO is from VT IMO.
  7. One AM, probably Sat, with girls
  8. If you go to Stowe no need to wear your helmet while driving.
  9. Was flown round trip to Boston for work function. Friend with place at Sunday River picked me up for 3 days skiing
  10. Ok so you saved 10 minutes compared to renting skis. I waited an hour at Newark in April for the odd sized items to show up at Baggage claim when I flew with skis (as I was flying a real airline back from Boston after my Sunday River trip)
  11. If you are going to multiple resorts, save money by renting at a ski shop not at a resort. The time it takes to rent skis is less than the time it takes to deal with skis at baggage claim 2x.
  12. I think it was about $75 as I got a discount on it with the lodging booking. And I would have wanted to rent fatter skis anyway so just bringing my boots would not have saved me much. Some folks are real sensitive and need to have just the right boots, I understand. I'm not.
  13. You fly Frontier that carry on costs you like $160 round trip. Never find I have any problem getting good fitting rental boots and they are almost free if renting skis anyway. Saves $ and saves carrying crap. Sorry I like going on ski vacations not piss away money and carry stuff in airport vacations. Pack smart in a personal item sized backpack and afford more western ski trips that way. Fools and their money . .
  14. Wear the helmet on the plane (for a minute when you walk on, then it comes off), rent skis out there to suit the more powdery conditions, and rent the boots too unless you are one of those crybabies that has to have the one pair of boots that makes your feet feel so cozy.
  15. I was 15 and took the train, it wasn't all that cold, I didn't notice too much drinking and I got a $5 T shirt. The view of the actual parade was bad, but the point was more to be part of the celebration than to see the guys. It wasnt an awesome time, but it was the first ever and it didnt happen again for about 3 decades, when I went again for an hour or so as I was working in Philly and my office closed early to let folks go.
  16. Hint #2 I went to a parade in center city
  17. Allentown must be on a different planet from Philly
  18. Unlikely they will leave any of it ungroomed to enjoy Wed when we dont have to drive in the snow?
  19. But I dont rule put taking a last min vaca day on Wed depending what happens where Tues night
  20. I cut class only twice 6th grade when we were going to dissect fetal pigs. Thanks, I'd rather have a 5 min talk with the principal. One day in October 1980 (who can guess the newsworthy occasion?)
  21. Some of us stay young at heart
  22. They have real nice glade runs when it snows. And few take them so the snow stays real nice in there.
  23. Guess this isnt the week for it, but at least they try When there is natural snow, Blue Baumer get skied off less fast than the neighboring trails. Taking the bike run next to Tuts down into Blue Baumer can be a nice route.
  24. Yeah I would have no problem having the girls spend money on things they want to do. That's why I give them an allowance - so they can make spending decisions. I also spend lots for them to ski.
  25. To be fair, Camelback is worse than Blue where glades are concerned. But Shawnee and Montage are also better.
