  1. Awesome day today. Kids did bumps on exposition, tons of trees, River Shot and Floyd. One was even still upright at bottom of Floyds.
  2. Not as awesome as being there at 8 but still the best conditions I have had at Blue this season and no lines, so no complaint. Had to wrap up work stuff before I could take time off. Better late than never.
  3. Made it out unscathed thanks
  4. Hadn't actually planned on doing mountain bike trail, just headed into trees, found myself on it, and it was fun.
  5. They are still saying the primary surface is LG there with 6-18" base - which is far from awesome, and you always expect are reports to be better than reality. I think it makes more sense to ski PA this weekend rather than deal with the extra driving and hotels for those conditions.
  6. Can't say I consider myself expert after 3 plus decades, though I ski everything in PA with confidence and seek out ungroomed terrain and glades. At the very least, before I would call someone an expert, I would want them to be able to handle the hardest stuff at Hunter and Plattekill as confidently as I tackle everything at Camelback.
  7. Didn't make it for the morning but had a great afternoon. Enjoyed the trees off Switchback and Lazy and the bike trail between Lazy and Sidewinder.
  8. Winter Park being a bit lower altitude could be a plus, as one of my daughters threw up at high altitude a couple years ago when we were driving in CO in the summer, and there won't be lots of time to acclimate, arriving Sat late AM and skiing Sunday. Figure I will keep them on the lower altitude runs Sunday at least and maybe venture higher up on Monday.
  9. Appreciate the tip, and all the others above. Most likely choosing between Copper and Winter Park. Sounds like both would be good choices based on folks comments above.
  10. Cool, I will stay tuned. Psyched to go if conditions look promising.
  11. I underastand, and feel that makes sense for green, blue, black. But I feel when a resort goes the extra mile to call something double black it should objectively present some degree of challenge or else it is just marketing fluff. Even White Lightning would be a single black at many places, but that wall is the most challenging named terrain in NEPA.
  12. Actually I doubt it will take ski patrol more than an hour to get you down it :-)
  13. With the only headwall that arguably deserves a double black in NEPA - unless one awards diamonds for iciness and the hazards created by bad skiers and riders.
  14. If I can drive it in 12 hours I won't fly.
  15. Had been thinking about taking kids to Gore this weekend (they have a kids ski free week) but sounds like conditions are real bad there again. Probably do PA instead unless things change.
  16. None of us have ever been really picky about boots. When I take the kids for seasonal rentals each year they never try on more than 2 pair of boots. Their mom is so impossible to fit boot wise that it led her to stop skiing.
  17. I will price it out and see. Last year's I found a shop that at rented me skis boots and piles for $40 for 2 days, way less than RT baggage fees. Frontier charges even for carry on. Plus pain of carrying 3 people's boots and skis between cars and airports on both ends.. May also look into a company that will ship ski stuff to your hotel.
  18. No. We will rent stuff out there rather than pay the arm and leg to bring 3 sets of skis and boots. Renting worked just fine for me last year.
  19. Booked the flights. 90k of Frontier miles to fly 3 people out of Philly on the 24th and back on the 27th. We will ski the 25th and 26th. Any thoughts on what the most kid/intermediate friendly mountains within 2 hours of DIA are. The kids are fine on PA blues, can handle some blacks, and even did a double black at Montage once this year, but I figure that translates to staying on all greens and blues in CO. This trip will be about skiing at their level, not mine.
  20. Glades skiable? Thinking of heading there Sat.
  21. Nice day. 20 runs. Cliffhanger and Marge were the best. Enjoyed skiing and riding the lift with Salty. Good times.
  22. Facing mountain next to condiments. Red fleece.
  23. Not that terrible, but I couldn't find my baclava or lip wax this AM. Even broke out the goggles (which I use a lot more since I started skiing in contacts)
