12/2-12/3 weekend roll call....

Probable for Sat. -
Great day to ski as lines are non existent. Doe (now BC) used to offer free Xmas skiing, which were the only times I made it there, with Doe being free and Blue being closed.
-
I have tubed twice with my kids (both before they tried skiing). And took them to do it two other times since, once as a birthday party for their friends and once as something to do with cousins, but did not join them those times
-
More like woke up in the middle of the night because I went to bed at 9. Conditions were good on the open trail, softish at the start mashed potatoes by the end. No bare spots and wide enough if not tree to tree. No excitement, but a better first day for the kids for the season than I thought they would have had at Blue where they may have found Midway a bit rough and kept us riding the Vista list after one run down that. A good confidence boosting start to their season, and I could see them get better as the day progressed. One of them lapsed into pizza on the first run but both were doing confident turns on french fries by the end and hitting all the side whoop de doos by the end. Take the girls for something more challenging in 2 weeks, weather permitting.

Paid $30 for Shawnee lift ticket via online ordering on their website which was processed via liftopia, then my 2 kids skied free with their PA Ski passports. So $10/person.
-
Zero lines or crowds at Shawnee. Soft snow. One beginner TTB trail is fine for first day on skis this year for my girls. Turning to mashed potatoes as day goes on. No bare spots but coverage is not deep so it is questionable how good it will be tomorrow. But probably the right call for today. Taking a break after 8 runs, heading out for a few more.
-
Cool. I will hit Shawnee with kids tomorrow. Fine for a mellow first day of the season for them and will be less crowded and perhaps less skied off than Blue. And having skied the same route at Blue 9x skiing something else tomorrow will provide a little variety. Plus they have a high speed lift open.

May make it out Friday or Saturday morning for a bit to ski the 1 and a third runs they are calling 5 trails. -
Source for that article appears to be Blue promoting its anniversary. But glad folks are having fun playing. just don't stay up all night doing it the next 2 nights and risk missing first chair
-
Don't mistake commenting on an inconsistency on an Internet forum for caring about it. Clearly they want to market this as the 40th anniversary cause they think it will make them more money and further lengthen the worst lift lines in NEPA. Woohoo.
-
Nah I will just rely on the three articles above saying 77 is not the date til I see a 77 article announcing their opening.
-
Would be delighted to see someone actually post a historical article thst agrees with the 77 date.
-
Because three articles posted to this thread, including 2 posted to prove me wrong, state it was either in the 60s or in 1975 and it seems no evidence at all that the website of the place proclaiming this their 40th anniversary states that is the case. I don't care at all when the anniversary is, just trying to sort out facts from misinformation. I do care what the price crowds and trail list will be this Saturday
-
That also says 1975.
-
That article says 1975
-
The wfmz article that says it is the 40th anniversary says it opened in the 60s. Typically I would trust a media report over something on Wiki which anyone can change. Is there no basis for saying it opened in the 60s?
