  1. Cool thanks for the update. Winter Park looking like a real good option as Barb was kind enough to provide some vouchers :-)
  2. In the drop off pick up area by the lot. There is a lot of gear to remember with two kids. Realized it 30 hours later as I was heading into NJ.
  3. Cool that SB located my skis 2 days after I left them there and are shipping them to me. Definitely means I will be renting in CO next weekend though.
  4. Yep, Best Western in Waterbury it was. Hot wire deal so I only found out hotel after paying but perfect it was 1/4 mile from Ben and Jerrys. They may be open 16th too, it does not seem they have made the call. But it looks like girls want to end their skison with Sugarbush. Belleayre would not be as good.
  5. Got back from Japan Wed night. Drove up to Waterbury Thurs and did Ben & Jerry's tour. Skied Fri. Hitting six flags New England in the AM. Topped the day (and their season) off with a TTB 2400 vertical foot run, the longest the girls have done. 3 of us spent $62 to ski and $85 for 3.5 star hotel with breakfast :-) Google maps took me across some ridiculous mud mountain road going to I89 that was basically negotiating a mogul run in an auto. Cars had carved the mud like skiers carve the snow. So far no auto damage detected but will get it up on a lift when I get home. Gate house side was hanging on by a thread and needs to close but most of Lincoln was A+ for spring skiing. So what do you recommend for CO next weekend. What will be open, for one?
  6. Hitting Lincoln Peak (the open one) for the 14th. Day 27 for me. Day 11 for the girls. Then 6 Flags New England Saturday. Belleayre Sunday not out of the question if weather and conditions warrant it. Next weekend Colorado! (Way to get after it :-)
  7. Enjoyed the mashed potatoes with the kids today. No lines, no crowds so makes sense they are wrapping it up though there is no doubt the conditions would let them persevere a bit longer if they wanted to lose money. Aquatica lot was packed so they were at least making cash there. Last day in PA for the skison. New England and CO will add the gravy to those potatoes later this month.
  8. At CB having big fun.
  9. Nah never go straight down in a tuck, I enjoy making turns. Understand straightaway makes them steeper, but I feel it makes them less of an interesting/scenic adventure. I enjoy a big variety of runs, which is also why I almost never ski the same place twice in a row.
  10. Challenge and Razor actually feel shorter to me than some longer vertical trails due to their being a straight shot where you can see the bottom from the top. Makes them less interesting. Also don't love that they are so close to identical unless one is left ungroomed.
  11. Wear that hat skiing and you won't even need to make any turns
  12. Windham closing after this weekend and getting some snow today into tonight. I believe I may have some coupons that let kids ski free there on Sundays too. Could be our place to go. Would be their first time skiing in the Catskills.
  13. Hmm. Might be worth doing a bit more driving then. Windham might suit the kids better than Hunter though. Anything off the top other than Belt Parkway might be a bit much for them at Hunter.
  14. Wow. Hope there is still some stuff worth skiing Sat / Sun in PA. How far north does one have to go before it is falling as snow?
  15. Seeing as how I was just mailed the voucher out of the blue and had to use it or lose it, it did not feel like spending $.
  16. Yep expect Loveland and Abasin will be my options those days, but I understand Winter Park and Copper, and maybe some others, have yet to rule out being open then. If it is Loveland and Abasin, will most likely do a day at each as I have never been to either. In CO I have been to Steamboat, Vail and Eldora. Also looking forward to getting GSS trip report before deciding.
  17. Don't know if they fog in rain. Don't ski in the rain.
  18. Lift price will not dictate where I ski when in Colorado if pricier place gets a dump. Free lodging and almost free flight are awesome though.
  19. I certainly ski below 10 degrees at times, but I would rather ski somewhere it is 25 than somewhere it is 5 all being equal. Rain is about the only dealbreaker.
  20. Paying about half as much for a R/T to Denver as folks pay at the window for a weekend lift ticket at Blue
  21. Not anything I had ever thought about in terms of an order of importance of the factors until GSS asked if I considered them all equally. Doesn't everyone consider all those factors in deciding where to ski? For pass holders I imagine the main difference is thst on any given day they consider price first as it is always a lot cheaper for them to ski where they have a pass than to go somewhere else. And in considering where to buy a pass I expect proximity is a fairly major factor.
  22. I would say I rate them about as follows 1. Weather (try to avoid rain, high winds or temps below 10). 2-3. Crowds and conditions 4-6. Terrain, price and proximity (but only rarely day trip further than Montage) 7. Lifts Within eastern PA, Blue is clearly among the best for me on Lifts, Terrain and Proximity. At peak times it is the worst on Crowds which can also cause issues with Conditions. Weather and Price vary day to day and deal to deal.
  23. And I don't see why I am called a Blue hater. It is the place I skied the most this year. I am just not a Blue cheerleader like you. I make an honest appraisal of 7 factors (conditions, weather, crowds, proximity, terrain, lifts, cost) when I decide where to ski each day.
  24. You are the one that posted a pic of a brown ski trail. That coupled with how much brown was there Sat before the rain raises the likelihood that I opt for CB, Elk or Belleayre this weekend.
  25. Mountainvertical.com does their own assessments of "true up vertical" that can be skied on commonly skied lift served continuous fall line runs and puts Elk at 1000. That does not mean you get that off a single lift ride.
