2017 Closing Weekend Party - March 18th
Ski2Live Live2Ski replied to AtomicSkier's topic in Blue Mountain
Fortunately a nearby sheep reported the incident. Only EWE can prevent forest fires - S.T.Bear -
There were some lift lines. Probably up to 3 min for large groups but as a single I had basically no wait. In good weather I can do the trip in 2:15 (vs 1:40 for Bluebird CB), but this morning was like 2:50 as there was snow falling and on road. Made it home in about 2:25, partially in rush hour. Would be nice if the runs were longer and the lifts were faster no doubt - but then the lines would likely be longer too.
-
Yeah probably should have just found a room between the 2, if I had planned it better.

Seriously, WTF is with this Weather?

It compresses -
Not crowded. I went after work, drive took longer than expected, and did not want to stay that late as roads were likely to ice up. Just some icing on the day to get me psyched for today at Montage.
-
Well that was epic. 24" of fresh snow untouched before today with more falling - left ungroomed on Smoke, White Lightning, Rattler and parts of other black trails, with all the lower woods in play. Western skiing in NEPA

Up and at em. There for opening if road conditions permit. -
Was definitely in the minority on skis. I would guesstimate 25-30% skiers

Montage is saying they got 30" with more coming. Looking forward to checking it out tomorrow. Smoke, Boomer, Rattler and White Lightning ungroomed. -
The turnpike was down to 1 lane at one point and the back roads had some patches of unplowed snow. It was worse driving than I expected but completely manageable.

Got out for some twilight turns. First time here since they changed the name from Doe. A foot of fresh snow with the west peak left ungroomed and full coverage in the trees made for a beautiful evening utterly unlike any recent East coast skiing (or my last skiing at Doe). There is more pitch than I remembered to some of the slopes too. Has a BOGO coupon that together with the reduced ticket price today meant I skied for $12.50.

Montage being closed today, reporting 9" so far, should make them beautiful when they open tomorrow at 9am especially with their tendency of leaving most of the north face ungrooomed. -

I have a friend who likes to launch his parasail from the upper lot at Blue in warmer weather. -
2 day trips
-
Sat at Blue, Sun at Camelback. Best runs were Challenge and Cliffhanger. First time I have skied 2 consecutive days in PA in a long time as I never overnight in the Poconos. May have to get back out in the fresh snow Tues or Wed. March is turning out a lot better than seemed likely in Feb.

Powder morning Friday 3/10 roll call

Thanks, the CR video that YT showed me after that did emphasize that tires make a lot more difference and that getting started was the main benefit of AWD -

Does AWD really make much difference in snow other than when you are stuck and trying to get out? I would think your tires make a lot more difference otherwise. I understand from Mr.Gordon that the tires are the things on your car that make contact with the road. -

Planning on Sunday AM to use my last PS&R card punch for Blue for the season. -
6 flags is open April to December. Waterpark May to Sept. A year pass costs barely more than 1 day there plus parking, so it is a no brainer if you live 25 miles away and have kids who dig it.
