Was thinking about Sunday, but I made a nice peach cobbler last night, and they won't let me eat it in the lodge.
-
Wow - that seems like a sick deal. You guys will make that pass pay for itself in a week....
-
There are significant differences between a $12.00 movie ticket and a $70 lift ticket. There is also a significant difference between taking the family to a two hour movie and taking the family - with kids - skiing for 6 hours. No one has to eat lunch at a two hour movie, but if you have kids, you sure as hell HAVE to feed those things every 2 hours or so..... And again, the lodge is there so I can ski. I'm coming to the mountain to ski. Not to eat their chicken fingers. Add the fact that their cafeteria can't handle the crowds anyway, and it's just an idiotic policy. They are literally making it a less enjoyable day for their clients in the hopes of selling more french fries. I'm sure it will work out for them, but I'm equally sure this will make families think twice about blue. And that may be their goal - turn it more into a camel back young adult hang out spot. I love the upper lodge patio and bar, etc...and can easily see them really promoting that image and vibe. It's just a real turn off to families I would think. There also is a real issue with food choices - families with kids with allergies and other food restrictions.... There are some funny bitch sessions on their Facebook page....
-
The more I think about this, the more I disagree with it. Some one mentioned the capacity of the cafeteria - that's a great point. On a crowded weekend day, to force the clientele to waste time in line to eat food they might not enjoy rubs me the wrong way. and the lines are just going to get longer and longer..... again, I'm not coming to blue to eat. And to dictate the experience to everyone...."If you are coming to ski blue mountain, you must eat our food as well" is just bogus. If it's the race moms....easy fix - race rooms in the lodge. Maybe do a heated tent - I'm sure the racers contribute enough tot eh bottom line to justify something like that.... I really think this is a shame - making skiing more and more expensive, more and more of a hassle.

They used to tell you that you could only bring food into that locker room area I thought. At least that's what I remember seeing last year. But yeah, the more I think about it, the more it strikes me as really a shame... I'm going to Blue to go skiing. And the lodge is there to facilitate that. If that means gnawing on a lunch I brought from home, so be it. I bought a lift ticket to ski, and they are giving me a place to sit and put my boots on and take a break from the activity. I'm not going to blue to eat their food.... Oh well.

A lodge isn't a restaurant. A lodge is a place to buy your ticket, maybe rent your skis, and to suit up to ski and that has a food court attached to it. Of course, you can't bring your PB&J into the slope side and plop down on at a nice table and eat it, but if you are telling me my only option is to herd my family through the fired food nightmare line on a crowded Saturday to give blue another $60 on top of the $180 in lift tickets, and that my vegetarian daughter will have to french fries and cardboard pizza, well, that's pretty crappy.

Only think about the Gondi that makes sense is, it would encourage everyone to use the lower lodge - which I think is getting a big renovation also - and you can have one lift to get you straight to the top. The proposed line/location wouldn't make any sense for lapping. It would purely be an alternate rout to the Tomahawk trail. It's really probably more for summer revenue than anything.

Just one day at Elk. Crazy. But my daughters are really enjoying Hunter and Belleayre, so that's been our thing this year. Had a great spring day at Bell yesterday all the glades open, including the top to bottom Dreamcatcher, which was a blast. Nice to get a long tree run in on a day trip. Soft bumps everywhere, and despite the holiday, only a significant line at the HSQ, which we only rode twice. I suspect we'll get to blue this march.
-
Keeping my "no blue season" streak alive and taking my daughters to Belleayre tomorrow. Have fun everyone!
-
It's times like this that I seriously question my life choices and wonder how the F- I ended up in NJ....
-
you are living the dream....
-
Wow. Have fun!
-
Dude....what a great place to be this morning....have a blast!
-
actually no kids...this is annual guy trip. Bonus on my end was getting to cash in on the coastal storm with one daughter. Had a real great day at Belleayre. Glad it was solid for you - reports we were getting from stowe was woods were iffy at best, and natural snow trails were real tough. So we'll try again in march - anywhoo...you're gonna get buried up there tonight!
-
Not an option this monday. Honestly, that figured big into our decision to bag it. Had to be home Sunday. Would ova been awful pulling away and driving through the snow after some frozen sketch skiing. re-booked the trip for weekend of march 4, hell or high water. Putting everything on the table from our normal trip to Stowe, to heading to ME, to the long drive to Massif...we'll see.... Meanwhile, you guys up north are gonna wake up in heaven!
-
Wow - you are about to hit a home run.... Glad we bailed. Went to Belleayre with my buddy and my daughter yesterday instead and we had a blast - fresh snow and soft bumps and all the glades skiing beautifully. We would be driving how around 2 today just as the snow really gets rolling - would have been heart breaking! Enjoy it Moe!
-
Seems to me homestretch might actually reduce their vertical. Feels uphill sometimes.
-
Wow - and you have another storm later next week. Unreal. Just heard from a buddy at Stowe - all engrossed terrain totally locked up. Open, but brutal. MRG less than half open. This is torture. Yeah, that is true, but we have one more open weekend to try for this, and given the snow piling up outside my office window, I feel like driving out of the snow to hope for the best is a little crazy. Take my kids to the catskills Saturday for assured nice conditions feels like a smarter play. But who the hell knows.... Oh well. Next life, I'm not gonna live in NJ. This sucks.
-
Wow - looks amazing! Damn....
-
Monday could be great. We're waiting till nine to decide for sure, but right now, with Jay and Stowe reporting ungroomed terrain closed or 'firm', and no chance we could extend into Monday, I think skiing in this coastal storm will be more fun somewhere.
-
Yeah, short of Moe reporting tomorrow that everything is A-OK, we are cancelling. MRG, Jay and Bolton all reported closing trails as temps dropped. single digits with no snow till sunday. Might take the kids night skiing at blue tomorrow night, maybe Plattekill Saturday.
-
Thanks moe. MRG and Jay started closing trails due to ice around 1, so that has us spooked. Plus, the Pokes and Catskills are going to get rocked tomorrow! Crazy....
-
Love to know how long the drive was to Massif. We're thinking about driving there from Stowe Friday morning since it sounds like N vt is freezing up very badly.
-
How'd you make out Moe? Conditions seem to be OK this morning, but the deep freeze is coming tonight.
-
Wow - place looks awesome.... Did it stay all snow up there?
