Oh crap - yeah, I got the date wrong.... 12-17. I live in central jersey, so the up 287. When we crossed 80 I thought about bailing and heading through the water gap to the pokes.

Had a car full of kids. Set out at 6:15. Roads were terrible. Almost bailed a the water gap and headed for CB or JF or maybe Elk, but we had pre-bought our tickets, so we pressed on. Saw about 8 cars in the ditches, and witnessed a few spin outs. It was pretty hairy. took at extra 1:15 or so. Got on the mountain at 11....and boy, the white knuckle drive was worth it. Soft snow everywhere - maybe about 6" total? Pretty chopped up by the time we got there. Racer's Edge was filled with whales and bumps, and was super fun...they opened Claires on the back side, and that was great - hardly anyone over there nice windy, bumped up trail to a ski-on HSQ....so nice. The normally icy headwalls were all butter...crowds were manageable all day, and the roads were cleared when we left at 4. Home in 3hrs. flat with one gas stop. Tough drive, but a great day. Felt like I got a little piece of this snowy December....

yeah, what's with the mug club? and also, seriously, what's on tap?

What's on tap?

Way to get after it!

Intriguing. You think they get NM>DW open, or just like tuts, falls, and that park down tot eh valley kind of thing? Trying to decide between catskills or poconos. Diving conditions could suck on return trip, so blue with the valley open might be the right call. Heck, even without the valley, and with snow....might be the thing to do.

Have fun - looking forward to reading your reports at work tomorrow. Saturday looks interesting weather...wonder if they really will make valley by then...

7 trails....Upper Vista, Middle Vista, Lower Vista, Vista lift line (the line at the lift, not the stuff under the chairs), Easy out, Upper Patio Trail to Lockers and also, The Chute, though you have to hike back up when you are done. (Actually, looks like Vista, Come Around and Main Street)

Is it raining there this morning?

Was up there Saturday with a car load of kids. Good time. Little icy on the head walls, and that west side parkway trail was a mess, but Eisenhower drive, and the Minya-something-something over to the other lift were fun, and the snow on the main bottom trail (7th ave?) was remarkably good all day. So strange - lines till 11:30, then ski-on the rest of the day. Well worth the drive.

Gonna be there for the first time over new years.

Wow - looks nice. Snow looks soft in the pics... Northern VT looks insane right now. Kind of scrambling trying to figure out if I can get up there this weekend - doesn't look good. Life interfering with skiing once again.

Pretty good looking forecast for the Catskills this week. -
That's good to know.
-
Yeah, it's a shame. They have some nice steep trees that look ideal....

couple of cold nights there.... https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/USPA0225:1:US probably not enough though. Their cams are down....couldn't stand to broadcast mud I suppose. Dang.... Well, Tim Kelley claiming the pendulum is swinging and cold is settling in for a while, at least for NE. -

Looks like Hunter lost one trail, Belleayre lost the beginner pod. Family was ambivalent on Sunday. Looks like we're sitting this weekend out. Looks like colder overnight temps in the Catskills start tonight and carry through the week. Next weekend should be better up there. Pokes have several cold nights....maybe CB gets something open by next weekend as well. -
Ah. Makes sense now.

Surprised so many mention WM.

Oh, I'm not saying it's a sane thing I'm planning to do! But only one daughter skied last weekend, so if the other wants to start the season.....I'll do it. and while it seems apparent conditions will be worse, there was some fun skiing to be had there last weekend - tall mountain, fast lift, no lines, corn snow, bumps....Don't get me wrong, it's logically way to far to drive for such limited terrain, but I seem to be able to delude myself into thinking it's a fine idea. -

Yeah, but if you wanted to ski this weekend, I think Hunter is going to survive - assuming they can blow snow Friday night and Saturday night. I'll make the drive if the kids want to ski. Then maybe the following weekend Belleayre opens more than one trail, then the weekend after that, Blue? -

Looks like Catskills Sunday is the best bet. Snowmaking times Friday night and Saturday night. Give them two nights of snow making....hit it sunday maybe...
