  1. So, which is the north face? The side with he marked glades? Not that there will be enough snow this weekend....just curious. and I take it they have a liberal tree policy?
  2. Huh. so the lift is just unreliable or just never crowded? By the map, looks hard to even ride two lifts to the top then. Seems kind of awkward.
  3. thought I posted this already, but it's gone... - What is the vert on that lower section? - Why don't many people use the long haul? Seems like a good way to score a long run. - How are the glades (when there is snow)?
  4. Wow. Looks like a lot of snow. But I bet they blow all night and all day tomorrow, groom it for Friday. I can't imagine a lot of people will be there tomorrow, so they probably don't feel the need to open it up before the hopefully crowded weekend.....
  5. You think east will be open tomorrow?
  6. Does JF seed bumps? If so, have they yet this year? last year there were some bumps on the skier's left side of exhibition. Gonna guess with this weather they have been grooming everything flat...
  7. Terrible news.
  8. Just back with my daughter. Snow on paradise got better as the day went on, and the crowds there got less as well. Virtually no lift lines all day. Bumps were kind of a drag, and the thick sugar snow on main street was fun to a point, then tiring. Still, way better than no skiing! And overall a fun day at Blue!
  9. Between blue and jf tomorrow....wondering if blue gets a crowd. Terrain will be much better though....yeah, probably blue tomorrow.
  10. Yeah, I've got a pic from two seasons ago of my kids on a chairlift at C-back. Not a single speck of snow in the picture. I think that might have been January even. I forget. Wow - Razors would be huge for this weekend.
  11. Next week looks just plain horrible. It's a little bit of a replay at last year. We went to Stratton right after X-mas. Rained for a few days before and just wrecked what had been some nice snow. Lucked out and got about 9-12" on second to last afternoon, and overnight, so we had a killer powder day to end the trip, but conditions were pretty icy till that point.
  12. yuck. Interesting point about college break...has me wondering about Saturday.... Looks like it should get colder tonight. Here's hoping...
  13. Wonder why they didn't blow last night. I think blue did,
  14. Ug. weather looks terrible next week through X-mas. The storm that will dump a foot out west will be two days of rain for us. crap. Looks like this weekend is best shot for local skiing till after x-mas. Should have booked something in VT for the winter break. Oh well. Between what's open this weekend, I think Blue wins for Saturday. C-back opened nile mile and king tut, which are family favorites, but the middle trails are junk, and probably will be the most crowded. JF is 30 min. further (which is significant given my expectation that a 4-5 hours will be enough for everyone given he conditions and trail openings) but would be worth it if there was a shot at some man made snow in a few of the 'glades' on the edges just to make things interesting for a few runs...but not sure that will happen. Right thing to do might be to head to the catskills, but i don't think I'm up for 3+ hrs. each way. Oh well. Probably back to Blue! There are worse fates in life.
  15. Well, I guess the good news is, trail counts shouldn't go backward, and this weather might keep people home again this weekend.
  16. Yeah, there was a little wait at like...9:30? then it was nearly ski-on. But then around 11 it started building. From 11:30 to 12:15 I'd call it 10. Maybe a little less or more, I don't know...it was long enough for me to decide I'd had enough. It might have fallen off again though because when I walked through the summit lodge at 12:30 it was empty.
  17. yeah, I was happy to yoyo main street most of the morning. Bumps and corn snow gave me a work out and was pretty fun.
  18. The lines on the 6 pack seems a little longer than the mainstream chair, at least when I hit it. Plus, bombing down homestrentch run out in that slush wasn't that much fun. Though tut's lane was kind of fast! Never thought of that as a trail before....
  19. Huh. I guess I only skied paradise once sunday, but it looked like it had a decent base to me. re: the short runs...well, yeah, but in the peak of the season, when Blue has 20 minute lines from 9:30 am on, JF is a great choice for us. Short lines, crowd spreads out nicely, East mountain is usually pretty empty, couple of runs through the trees, such as they are....It's kind of fun there. 600 vert. compared to main streets 800? Plus 1000 vert' paradise run? Yeah, I guess that's significant and maybe we'll switch gears saturday since both are likely to be empty. Though I have to say, even sunday, but the time I left around 12:30, main street was turning into 10-15 min. Maybe it slacked off again later.... Honestly, with no crowds, Blue is the best mountain within 2 hours of our house by far. But I get frustrated by the crowds and trail congestion with the family. What I'd prefer to do is head to southern Vt. Friday night, ski saturday at Okemo or Snow, drive home Sat. night, but I've got not traction for that plan.
  20. Crap. Without the six pack and paradise, lines would have been long Sunday morning...though I guess a lot of people would have stayed home.... but we a few cold nights, they should be able to get Homestretch patched up. Paradise seemd to have a good enough base to survive. We'll see.....I'm think JF Saturday...hope they survive the rain.
  21. Neither. We bring our cooler and gear bag into the lodge and stash it somewhere. Who wants to steal our PB&Js and stinky shoes?
  22. Yeah, I'm in the cooler crowd for sure. Packing lunch with the family saves a tone of money, but more importantly, it's better food and FASTER than yet another line to stand in.... I don't know...I'm pretty happy - you can re-load or buy online and get 8 hours instead of 6, or do the all day and get 15 back in food.... Sure, it's still an expensive ticket, but it is the best terrain south of Elk, and the Summit lodge pretty nice...and hey, whatever I think about it, the place is jam packed every weekend starting Jan. so clearly the demand warrants a higher price.
  23. Upstairs, on the far side of the food area. Bar is sectioned off a little by some high bar tables. Looked nice. As does the outside bar up there. Fire pits, outdoor bar seating, wings and burgers....they did a nice job.
  24. $75 on the weekend. But still, a clever idea and good for them for listening to all the complaints. BTW, nice beer selection in the new upstairs bar at the summit. I guess it's not that new now, but first time I was in there.
  25. I was there from 8:30 - 12:30. Was planning to take my youngest to JF but it didn't pan out, so I took a quick solo trip. Got a little slushy toward the end there and the chair line was getting long from around 11 on. But pretty fun morning. Nice and soft. And main street started getting moguls further down. The bumps were super fun. There were two guys on skinny skis tearing up the bumps - was that anyone here? Actually, saw quite a few skinny skis today....
