sunday opening would be sweet....save me driving to hunter.... -
I'm thinking about it. No one else in the cats will be open?
-
Yeah, I think that's very true. It also might spread out the peaks in the afternoon right after the PM tickets starts etc... Just wish it was 8 hours - we typically ski longer than six...

Black friday opening on a trail or 3? -
High speed lift on a 600vert. mountain is about as silly an idea as I can think of. By the time the chair engages with the main cable, it would be time for it to detach to unload... and heck, JF has about 38 fixed grip lifts at this point, don't they? They pretty much have one chair lift for every trail.

Ski anywhere at Montage? (Honestly, I think PA places worry about tree skiing mainly because rarely is there enough snow for the sections well off the trails and because they have created their own obstacles...ie: alpine slides etc.... If your waiver said "ski anywhere at your own risk, risks inherent in skiing include hitting trees...." that's one thing, but the first time some one double ejects under and lands on your old alpine slide - well, then that kind of sounds like negligence...you left that decrepit thing in the woods and told people to go skiing there....)

Yeah, I don't love that. As a family we often ski 8:30- 3:30/4:00 if conditions are good. With the kids, you know, lunch takes 45 minutes, and some one needs the bathroom now and then, and yadda yadda.... Driving 1:30 each way to ski 6 hours...
-
Thanks. I think I saw those spots the one and only day I skied at Elk. It's a shame the sections left and right of that Tunk run have nice pitch and would be fun if they would lighten up about tree skiing.

Upper New Trail, Middle New Trail and Lower New Trail, means this will add three....
-
Well then, there you have it.... And the comment below probably nails it - only a small percentage of the skiing population is really concerned about terrain, vert, etc.... Most are looking for goo lifts, well groomed trails, good snow, decent food, good ski school, etc.... Yeah. That really makes sense.

A hotel? I don't know...I guess if the hotel in and of itself was a money maker, and if it's going to drive 4 season business...but Blue - and CB for that matter - sure don't need any more skiers to make a buck I would think. But you know, who is going to pay for a hotel for blue, or CB for skiing? I just don't see it. We went to Greek this summer, and I was thinking "great, you know, maybe this can become a weekend get away spot for the winter..." but for what they would charge (and I think any new place in the Pokes will be priced the same) to ski 1000'....I'd rather drive a few more hours.... How does that hotel at Bear Creek do? we took the kids there when...well, back when BC was fun for them to ski....and spent a night. Awesome hotel, had a great time, everything was nice...and never did it again. Anywho....I'm sure the folks that run these mountains are smarter than me, but I just don't see the wisdom in the investment.

New lodge is beautiful. Food needs help. Nice little bar with good beers on tap though, so there's that. The room we stayed in had a kitchette - I guess they all do....
-
yeah, that's it....great video...

We were just at Greek peak this summer, hiking and doing the zip lines and stuff. They have a brand new lodge and indoor water park. Whole place looked like it was designed by the same folks who did Jay, and similar to what I saw of CBs plans.... On the one hand, once this place opens, I can't imagine the lines on the weekend at CB. Going to be insane I would think. Pretty much takes CB out of weekend rotation for me I think. On the other, could be a nice mid-week stay over with the kids...pick them up after school, drive 1.5, night ski, spend the night, ski all day, drive home...1-1/2 days of skiing with the kids and they only miss a day of classes... could be fun...

Yeah, I guess you are right. And I remember someone posted a video of a posse - you perhaps? I forget exactly who it was - killing everything on and off trail after a dump this past winter, so I guess the mountain has a good attitude.... I was up at Greek Peak this summer and checked out their web site etc... they seem to have a liberal tree policy. Mountain seems about as varied and interesting as blue, so not really worth the drive/over night stay. Probably a little more snow though.

Though the baumer glade there, or a little higher off tits lane there? Or both?! Id be nice if Blue adopted a 'anywhere in bounds' policy and did a little more clearing.

http://www.skibluemt.com/media/330470/bikeparktrailmap_aug1.pdf You guys ever ski any of these bike trails? Maybe last winter? #8,9 4 and 10.... Just curious.

Not bad at all...

Hmmm....trying to paste together a last minute, last weekend in Vt. If that falls through, think I'll end the season with a last day a blue... It's still 100% open? Wow, great season.
-
Wow - april 6....that's awesome. Might be able to get a day or two more in after all.
-
Was hoping for a few inches on the competition bumps. Still might head up tonight.

Was thinking about a night run to blue if you guys caught big snow. But this storm turned into a dud for us in central jersey. How'd the mountain make out?
