The area by the lower lodge is a better spot for starting out they have a little lift there runs pretty slow, that is where they do lessons now. Had a friends son take lessons there a couple of weeks ago, and it was pretty mellow

Difference is he does tripods when he wants to. His dad only does them when he catches edge

2 weeks ago My son took a private freestyle lesson at blue mountain. The instructor he got was one of the blue mountain snowboard team coaches. I have to say he was one of the best instructors I have seen. My son learned so much from him in the 1.5 hour lesson. If any of the few snowboarders on this board are looking for a good instructer. Ask for Sean the snowboard coach. You will not be disappointed here is a link to video after lesson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1aPGW_i3og

I got on this deal as well with a little help from Ski2Live Bought 4 cards, and have used them @ CB, JF ,Blue. It is a killer deal I figured out the scam. You have to have a club affliation with the NJ Ski and Snowboard Council. they have an associate membership (means you dont have to attend the monthly meetings). You just have a link to rules of order for the club, and a list of members, and a fee if somewhere around 30-60 dollars then you get access to the pocono ski and ride cards (comes out around dec each year) as well as other discounts in NJ,NY,VT areas. you can buy as many as you want they print around 1000 of them as of this year thier were no PA ski clubs associated with the NJSSC. and this card is not offered to any other PA associations

Wound up going to elk on saturday. Talk about no discounts, they wouldn't take the 5th grader tickets on holiday weekend. Only place I have been to that they would not take coupon. I ponied up the cash, and we had a great time. Lost of fresh snow. Seemed pretty crowded as well.

Yeah didn't think there was any for elk but if you don't ask.... Been wanting to take kid. So I will suck it up and pay

Glade Reports? Subaru Winterfest?

Sounds like you are fixated on tripods. Maybe you should strap into a single ski and get one of your boys at blue to teach you that move. Worst case scenario is a good faceplant -

Skiing or Riding - what is more popular among kids/teens now?

Looks are deceiving. But at at least when we fall our stuff doesn't go flying down without us. I won't kid you a good faceplate hurts, but very little risk to knees. Unlike a bad ski fall. -

Just got back myself Took a lesson as well No ski lines from park on to east mountain. Horrible wait at greens and anything from Lehigh down. Spent most of my day at exibition -
Was thinking about hitting elk this sunday curious if it will be less crowded then rest of the hills? Also How is the snow up there? Is there any park? if so how are the features
-
Park at JF is set up pretty much the same as it has been last 2 years medium to large features, some butter boxes and rails couple of medium Jumps Snow there was good last week prior to cold weather and rain, not sure how it fared after rain yesterday not much wait time at lift. Boulder had longer lift times, and liberty park was setup up, with some larger features.

it's a family friendly race, they set up a course down a blue run. they time each person and competition is done by age group/discipline (ski/snowboard) (male/female) the winner gets a medal and ability to compete in finals Open to all ages. they give a way off a bunch of stuff the raffle was for some MT Dew Snowboards, coats, gloves, coolers full of stuff. and it costs nothing to enter. http://www.skiverticalchallenge.com/ has more info

I snowboard, so I can't really comment on how well they ski there, place was packed liked sardines, lift lines longer than blue at weekends. not my first or second choice. Just went there because of vert challenge. my kid was sick the day they had it at JF. if i go there again this season (i may only because of my pocono ride and ski card), I will surely bring my rock board, as I know it will get trashed. It's a shame, because they had a decent park that had features for all skill levels
-
Went there yesterday for mt dew challenge, and OMG. It's like they mixed rocks with he snow they were blowing. The park hard Fist size rocks mixed in with snow littered almost fully across the trail, the entire length. The regular trails and lower area were mixed with the "ash" type of gravel. I have never seen so many rocks. The base was so thin in parts, there were people slipping on the exposed plastic covering the water park features. was at blue, JF, and BB this week, and none of them had rocks in the snow done with my rant
-
Have you ever looked at outdoor tech chips. Bluetooth headset. easy to use with gloves on. I've been using them for a couple of years now and they work great
-
It's all good. I was just educating the speedsters on two snowboards, that there is more depth to sliding on snow pointing down the fall line as long as you can . anyone can do that. It takes more skill to be able to truly control the stick they are riding ;(
-
To the first part, The trick is not so much about the hands as it is to be able to get the board on either tail or nose to be able to touch the snow as you are riding, this takes an extreme level of balance and control to do in motion. this is not just a standing still butter to a tripod, this is riding, as you are riding, get the nose /tail press going while in motion and keeping the snowboard straight enough to be able to then get back up on it while still moving . it is the starting point for a lot of ground tricks and a core technique developer To the second part. Amen, The more techniques you can master, the better rider you will be. Able to adapt to the many different terrain options on the mountain. There are alot of people out thier enjoying themselves each in their own way, and by being confident in your abilities, and in control. you are safer, and the other riders are also safer as you won't go careened uncontrollably into them
