  1. I'm usually skiing with my Dad and we're usually by ourselves because we don't ski as fast as most, especially on the blacks. I've been in a blue jacket this year, but I think I will switch it up to the rust colored coat seen in my avatar here for tomorrow night, over black pants, dark green helmet.
  2. Please don't drop $600 on skis without at least testing something other than the beginner skis you are on. Ideally you should demo the skis that you want to buy, but for sure test something else out. And I'll once again urge you to consider going wider than the RTM81s you were talking about getting as your daily driver ski. Given that you will be a predominantly Poconos skier, and with all the warmth cycles we go through even in the middle of winter your going to see a tone of chop, soft pile snow and other crappy conditions where the extra width will be very welcome. At the very least test some different widths to see what you like. I'm planning to be at Blue tomorrow night, if you do go I'm happy to let you take a run or two on my Rossi Exp88 HDs. Blue also offers demos for $60 where you can take out up to three pairs of skis, and they will apply the 60 to a purchase if you make one. They don't have Volkl or Rossi, but the Head Monster and Soloman XDrive series should be pretty comparable.
  3. Have you tried the Volkls out, or demo'd anything else besides your current skis?
  4. I did, I came up to Blue solo on a Saturday my dad had to work, and then after he got off at noon we headed over to Bear because Blue was closing at 3 due to rain in the forecast that didn't show up until like 8 pm
  5. I usually like one day each year at Bear. It's tough to pick a day when conditions are good because of having the Blue pass and it being 15 minutes closer, but so far in my young ski career I enjoy skiing a day there each season.
  6. If your poles have wrist straps, turn one upside down and put the basket end of each through the opposite pole strap. Slip the strap loops over the tips and tails of the skis respectively. Carry by the poles with the skis hanging in the straps down below.
  7. Tread lightly. You make fun of my drink selection, you lose your meat privileges.
  8. Well, sure, if you're gonna drive the speed limit. Lol, I'm just messing with you. I just grew up driving 95 around Baltimore and would never consider any other route to get from the Lehigh Valley to the D.C. Area. Especially since the added the toll express lanes north of Baltimore. That crabcake sammich is legit tho. Ditto the wings at a place called CR Wings a few miles further into Bel Air, MD from 95. Haven't found wings yet in the valley that rate as even acceptable in comparison.
  9. Didn't see anyone up there, put in a short session. Skied Burma, Paradise, stopped to change my boots because the new (to me) boots had me so I couldn't feel my feet. Came back out and skied Vista-Midway-Lower main, then Lazy to Falls, Challenge and finished with a full Main Street run. Snow was soft and awesome, probably wouldn't have liked it so much if it were busier, but enjoyed the conditions on every run. Rotd may have been Paradise for the best snow, Burma had great snow too. Pops made his first Challenge run and acquitted himself nicely. Plan is for a Thursday night return
  10. That's a bad call
  11. Jump off I95 at exit 77 in MD, go about 2 miles to Box Hill Pizzeria and get a broiled crabcake sandwich. shoot, if they're open. Christmas and all
  12. That's what I was thinking! Plus you got those short, skinny, turny sticks so you could whip those turns no problem, I bet.
  13. Planning to be out for awhile tomorrow night. Stopped at Buckman's on the way home and had my boots molded . They still feel a little tight but looking forward to trying them out.
  14. Expect to be out both tomorrow and Sunday. Sausage Sunday seasonal debut Sunday.
  15. Took me 3.5 hours to get home from Aston today. Normally like 1:20-1:30.
  16. Probably just everything that's open now, plus Falls to Homestretch to get to the 6 pack, ditto whatever that flat jawn is that goes from the double double over to Homestretch, and Tuts lane to connect the top of the lift to the open terrain. But you never know. They are blowing snow like crazy. If they want to they could add more
  17. That's usually where my dad and I end up on our Camelback days, lapping Pocono Raceway and Rhododendron Glen, an occasional jaunt down Bactrian. Usually the Raceway triple is running when we're there. It's a real pain in the ass when it's not. Last year they set up a self timer and some gates on Raceway. That was fun.
  18. Maybe they are counting each tubing run. Blue is supposed to get tubing open on saturday. About time. Finally catching up to Camelback.
  19. The world is upside down when Doug is the guy NOT driving new posters away.
  20. Pharaoh is at least as deserving of black status as Nightmare is. Very similar trails.
  21. Just stuff your shirt with newspaper. Homeless guys swear by it, no one knows how to stay warm like those guys.
  22. But at what cost? Tubing's even open yet . . .
  23. Yeah, that's rough. Spring would be the closest, probably by far. It's pretty convenient off of the extension too. Not sure when they'll open. What part of suburban Philthy?
  24. Hurts a lot less when you have a pass too, and all you're out is time.
