  1. I love it; no complaints here. The trash talk always seems good-natured at its base. If that weren't the case it wouldn't be enjoyable. Plus I think thread are like conversations. It would be boring and stifling if they always stayed "on topic."
  2. A little part of me dies every time you say "Trax." Why did you quit skiing!?
  3. Doubled over laughing at how a boilerplate announcement about ticket prices immediately turned into a double-takedown of Eaf and Salty. This place is comedy gold!
  4. If I'm not mistaken, the rocker profile I'm looking for is "freeride rocker" or at least that's what some online retailers are calling it. Of the two places for which I'm a finalist job candidate, one is a ski academy and one has a mandatory faculty backcountry ski trip every year, so yeah: I'll be able to get some solid advice on ski choice when I get where I'm going. I'm just daydreaming about living in each place and what the skiing would be like.
  5. I couldn't make it after all. Deep in the weeds at the office desk. Luckily I'm busy because I'm having a very productive (and frankly fucking lucky) job search, and that's eating up work and ski time. Happily so.
  6. Oh lord, I'm not a mod here. I'm a prolific poster of forum bs mostly when I have a shite ton of actual work to do.
  7. I like my 172s. It's a heavy, burly ski and feels really stable but still nimble and turny. I tried 177s and they felt unwieldy to me, but then I don't make wide, fast GS turns like you guys do.
  8. It DOES suck to suck! Especially when you're pretty clear about why you suck but you cant figure out what to do about it. Skiing well is fucking hard. Damn good thing it's fun and outside and always beer-adjacent.
  9. Word. I don't usually ski Friday, so wasn't expecting this. May be there tomorrow; hopefully. Just need to wrestle some paperwork to the mat. EDIT: Nah, there was no VIP line and no crowd control/traffic direction at the lift line.
  10. Shite it's crowded. Lift lines beyond the turnstyles. Place is lousy with teenagers.
  11. ^That comment is the best thing that has ever happened to me on the internet. ^
  12. I'm just so glad Salty is here. It's like hiking in bear country with a slightly slower friend.
  13. Well, they sell the Soul 7s, so they have a bunch in the shop, just no demos. I don't know who would be buying them, but whatever.
  14. I actually asked the shop at Blue Wednesday if they had the Soul 7s for demo just because I see them everywhere and was curious. They didn't have 'em though.
  15. Thanks, I'll keep that and the Cham in mind. Like I said, I'm just daydreaming for now, but it sure is fun.
  16. They should have a team just for over-forty adults in racing skin suits. That would clear a trail right off.
  17. Oh, absolutely. I'm not buying anything without a compelling reason and a lot of demo-ing. I was just curious as to how important it was to have wider skis.
  18. Holy shit, I thought I was being self-deprecating earlier. You, sir, are the Picasso of exaggerated self-loathing!
  19. Do you put the liners back in the shells and then put your feet in, or put your feet in the liners and then shove everything in at once? Reason I ask is that I have liners that you have to put on first, before they go in the boot, and it's a little tough sometimes and definitely waaaaay harder when the liners are not laced up tight. Also if you like booting up at the car, a heated boot bag is pretty awesome.
  20. Hopefully Friday afternoon/evening if I can get out of ski club and then Saturday. I'm always open to feedback on my skiing, so if you see me from the lift or whatever and I'm doing some dumb thing, feel free to tell me, either in person or here. I mean, I'm not gonna get better doing the same wrong thing over an over, so fire away if you feel like it.
  21. Fellas. Hug it out. I think it was Jesus who said "Let he whose state is without underground coal fire cast the first stone."
  22. New summer sport. Gonna get me a Yard Yacht. Here you go, SaltyDude:
  23. Dunno where you're staying (I don't have the physical stamina to do enough scrolling to find out) but Maplefields, next to the Cumberland Farms in Woodstock is good for cheap breakfast sandwiches and coffee.
  24. I've been thinking about it for a couple of years and finally got fed up with things at my current job. I love teaching history too much to stay in a situation that's going to make me cynical, and last semester I was starting to get pretty cynical. I also want to get back into working with an outing program and to live someplace new and different that I can be really excited about. I'm not from this area; I just randomly ended up here after Hurricane Katrina because there was a job offer. I have family in Oregon--my brother and his family, so it would be nice to be able to see my niece and nephew more often as well.
