  1. Unless it's someone you care about and want to see, there is ZERO point to Skype/Facetime, or whatever hologram nightmare is coming next.
  2. Holy shit, that video is everything. I think I've lost my ability to detect sarcasm; averaging about three hours' sleep a night. Full time job, part time job and looking for a job. Another fucking Skype interview tomorrow when I could have been at Blue by 2:30. I could have taken a phone call at Blue, in my car. But NO, it's 2018, and we have to Skype. Do you know why, in the history of telephone usage, nobody has ever looked into a mirror for an entire phone conversation? Because seeing your own stupid face when you're trying to talk to someone is a soul-crushing nightmare that's why. Anyhoo. Fresh powder for Salty; that's great.
  3. Beg to differ. RTM 84s are a higher-performance ski and IMHO much more versatile for east coast skiing. RTM trash-talkers need to differentiate their hate. From Skimag.com: "Volkl RTM 81, which returns unchanged for 2017, is also lighter weight. It's designed to be quicker edge to edge, livelier, and more forgiving for skiers of lesser skill, with no top-and-bottom metal reinforcement or UVO dampening module as found in the more expensive models. " https://www.skimag.com/gear/volkl-rtm-81-2017 I don't believe that pandering to my low skill-set with "forgiving" skis is going to make me a better skier.
  4. First tracks. Don't let Camelback drag you down to their level of philistinism.
  5. Gotcha. I don't care what anyone's politics are, but I get a little spikey when people get historical facts wrong. EDIT: Not that you got your facts wrong! I just couldn't read the tone.
  6. You do know the difference between social democracy and communism, no?
  7. Well that's disappointing. On the up site, the mountain biking is great and Colorado is accessible in under four hours (Purgutory and Telluride, e.g.)
  8. Lol, since I'm writing cover letters to potential employers lately, I'm particularly horrified by typos. I never look at anything I've already sent: I would end up weeping in the fetal position for three days if I found a typo on an already-sent job application.
  9. West Leb is ok, it's just where all the non-quaint stuff is, like grocery stores, etc. I wore my Suicide Six t-shirt one day at Mammoth and met a ton of people from Vermont. I know what you mean, though; I'm looking seriously at relocating to the Rocky Mountain region. Pretty interested in northern New Mexico at the moment.
  10. Vermont is like that all the time in any season: ridiculously beautiful in an over-the-top, stereotypical New England way. After a few days of it, you're like "knock it off Vermont, you're trying too hard" and that's when I go to West Lebanon for a reality check. West Leb is only good-looking when it's in your rear-view mirror.
  11. Eh, no big deal. Keep in mid that I'm way better at maintaining my skis than actually skiing them, so I'm a little obsessive in that regard. It's hard to avoid over-paying sometimes when you're traveling someplace new. Have an awesome trip!
  12. Yeah, I would never even bother with a quick/machine wax. That will be gone after three or four runs. For that price, you should have gotten a hand wax. It will take longer, because the skis have to get to room temp and the wax should cool for at least an hour. Also, did they ask you what edge angle you have/wanted? I wouldn't give my skis to anyone who didn't ask me that question. Rust is no big deal, you just need to get a gummi stone. They'll have one in any ski shop, cheap. It works like an eraser on rust and also takes down burrs. No need to go to a shop for rust. What shop charged you $45 for a quick wax and edge tune, btw? That's some retail badassery at any rate. Here's a good resource: https://www.evo.com/guides/how-to-tune-skis-snowboards .
  13. What does that include? Because that price point usually includes a base grind and you don't want to do that to your new skis without a good reason (concavity, e.g.). If I were you I'd do some research on ski tuning and maintenance so you know what to ask for. It seems like you keep getting gouged by shops, or up-sold services you don't need. EDIT: Also get one of these and you won't need edge work as often. You can put a diamond stone in it, too. http://www.tognar.com/fk-sks-edge-trick/
  14. Oh god, no it won't. That is so gross.
  15. Is there a leaderboard for strikes?

They give our club 15 free passes for us to use any time, and they don't generally get used up by our staff so if it's March, I may have passes to share.
  17. Honestly if it weren't for Hotronics and this thing, http://www.facesavermask.com/ I wouldn't either. The Face Saver mask doesn't look like much, but it's a game changer. No goggle fogging and no 'clava getting soaking wet from condensation. And it's like $16
  18. Right, but the evening should be pretty dead. I was at Blue the Sunday of the Eagles-Vikings playoff game and the place was a ghosttown by 5pm. I just figure with weekend crowds the way they normally are, it's worth it to take advantage of odd chunks of uncrowded time. Of course, now the forecast is calling for rain everywhere.

This was my first evening with the school ski club and the ride up was a bit spicy because the elderly 9-passenger vans we have to drive kept getting buffeted by strong wind gusts. With about three inches of play in the steering column, I'm glad we managed to stay in our own lane. On the mountain, though, there was hardly any wind and it was really comfortable if you were bundled up properly. The snow was non-awesome but far from the worst I've seen. Lots of granular over ice patches, but some nice stretches of decent snow as well. Pharaoh into Bactrian was the run of the evening; according to a ski patroller, it opened late today (2pm) so hadn't seen the scrapey-offy traffic that the other trails had. Rhodo-Glen and Pocono Raceway were outstanding as well. Nile Mile was underwhelming--too much ice to be really fun. Liftlines were never more than three or four chairs deep. The lodge was crowded with school kids, but not uncomfortably so. Just lots of Middle School energy all over the place. I stopped skiing around 7-ish I think, so a solid two hours. The kids were fading from the cold and the ice and wanted to leave early, so I drove half the group home.
  20. That's true; Though if it clears out around 4, that's still a good day for me. I can ski all morning, take a long lodge break and do some schoolwork, then get back at it in the afternoon.

  22. Hey, serious question: I want to ski Sunday because I don't care about the game and figure it won't be too crowded. But the forecast for Palmerton is calling for rain in the afternoon. Tannersville's forecast is calling for 3-5 inches of snow. I can get a free pass to Camelback, so in terms of money, the Blue vs. CBK choice is the same. I'd rather ski at Blue, but also I'd rather ski in snow. What say you PASRs? Where should I go?
  23. The school actually offers fly fishing as part of its outing program!
  24. Exactly. I did buy a MTB pass because I'll definitely get my money's worth out of that before I split. Had a Skype interview with a school in Sun Valley, ID. Not sure how it went. They laughed at a joke I made about Nazis, but I'm not sure that was a wise rhetorical course of action. Also Skype is awkward; it takes everything that's awesome about a phone call and ruins it.
