  1. Yeah, I thought 8. And I definitely don't want to impose on anyone so say hi or don't; all cool. It's sofening up a bit. Main st is fun. Lift line is almost to the gates but the Main st chsir is empty
  2. I think we were more singing to him than heckling. We were actually booted for sneaking into the field box area. Usher wouldn't let us use the exit; made us climb back up the railing we had snuck under. This was to the absolute, profanity-laden delight of all the late inning drunk fans.
  3. Ha ha, I like how the weeknight teenagers always avoid riding with me because they think I'm an old narc. If they'd ever share a chair with me, I could say : "Dudes, I've been to nine Grateful Dead shows and a prison rodeo. My friends and I were once kicked out of Shea Stadium for drunkenly heckling Keith Hernandez. I lived in New Orleans for five years; my favorite bar didn't have a back wall. You cannot do anything on this chair that will shock me." But when I move forward and they don't, leaving me alone on a six-pack chair I also want to say "Suck it, jerks. I have a car and can buy my own booze. Enjoy the ride home with your parents."
  4. A blunt instructor with blunts would pretty much be my dream come true.
  5. Hey, thanks for the critique! Most instructor's I've had are sort of vague and too nice. I need someone to yell at me when I do bad shit, not tell me to "let the ski do the work...blah, blah." I've been an athlete all my life and am used to blunt, sardonic coaches shouting at me in the moment so I can correct in the moment. I'm out there at Blue all the time because I want to get better; I don't want to be a groomer-bound f-ing intermediate my whole life. Is there like a Bobby Knight-style instructor around? Because I would hire that guy. Yeah, I love the SkiDiva site and the many awesome women there, but I don't do their trips anymore; generally prefer to ski solo. Most of the local Divas are less-than-charmed by my company. Which is fair enough, really.
  6. It was warm; I just forgot to put 'em down
  7. I was skiing like garbage, as usual. Can't stop shoving my tails around instead of making decent turns. My friend took a video and it was appalling. Lesson time.
  8. Yeah, kept waiting for it soften so we had a long lunch and stayed on Paradise mostly. It did get a little better in the pm. We bailed around six and used some discount passes to Aquatopia at CBK. Fun time with friends, but they need to crank the temp on the hot tub.
  9. Taking personal day tomorrow to meet up with a couple of girlfriends. I'll be there early, they'll show up around 10. Beige pants, black helmet, shitty skills, and this jacket. Sorry the picture is so massive:
  10. I was there from 4:30 to about 9. It rained very slightly for about 10 minutes at some point--forget what time. But even when I left at nine the snow was still awesome. Soft and carvey and super fun. Except for Challenge, which was scrapey and pushed around by about 7. Also a bunch of lights were out and Jaysus it was dark in places, which I only care about because of the snowboarders straight-lining the entire run and possibly/probably at some point not seeing me.
  11. Nah, I had to do Christmas shit. I shop for gifts like the Germans invade Poland: fast, ruthless, and accompanied by strategically-coordinated air support. Not the last part. Ruthless, tho.
  12. Lol, apparently since my school is religious I don't qualify for unemployment. It's all good, I've got savings plus I do some college adjunct work. Just thought instructing would be fun for kicks. Then again I could just ski all day.
  13. Thanks, everyone! I thought instructing would be a decent way to make a little pocket money, but I'm not gonna sit around on my own time not making money. I plan on enjoying the hell out of my freedom while I figure out what's next.
  14. Undecided, just walking away for the moment.
  15. At my age, stripping for tips would have to be a volume business and I'd never get to ski.
  16. Good points all. Shit.
  17. That is excellent feedback, thanks. Yeah, I should look for another gig if that's the case (only getting paid when you're teaching). Jeebus. No wonder they're always looking for instructors.
  18. Jeez, I ALWAYS tip my ski instructors! Ugh. Maybe they need bar-back or something.
  19. I'm in the process of resigning from my job and need some weekend/shift work to buy gas and groceries and allow me to go on interviews during the week. Minimum wage babysitting is fine as long as I'm outside, on snow, around people. Like I said, it's just gas money and I don't want to sit at home all day. Anything I should know before i go for it?
  20. I just got back to skiing last year after stopping in 1986. The first time I saw snowboarders sprawled out on the ground all over the middle of the trail I though "Omg, has there been an artillery strike!?"
  21. It's almost banked on the outside, like a mountain-bike berm. I thought about ripping into the berm and riding it around, but then imagined ski patrol trying to extricate my old ass from the trees.
  22. I skied from 9 to 5 Friday; the snow was perfectly timed: it improved conditions just as they were beginning to deteriorate in places. Lower Main was nice and chalky early on, then as the chalk got scraped off it was a little sketchy in patches. Even though it wasn't a huge accumulation, it provided a nice top layer. The last left turn on Lazy had like a ten-yard patch of sheer ice to contend with; the snow actually didn't help that at all, but it was fine as there's not much pitch there so you could just slide it out. Crowds were thin all day, and downright sparse by about 3-5. I never waited on a line and alternated between the double and the six, because it really didn't make much difference as far as terrain access. and the double lets you ski the very top of MS, which was in awesome condition (all of MS was sweet all day except the bottom part getting a little scrapey). A well-timed personal day from work. Enjoy the weekend.
  23. PASRs will not be first-chair on the six. It will be me hosting a book-club discussion of the Great Gatsby. Admission to chair based on SAT scores and a compelling personal essay.
  24. True, but on their phones they're socializing or looking a YouTube videos. Reading is a different animal, especially if it's for school. They seem to be pretty savvy about what works for them in terms of getting good grades, and that's generally books-on-paper. The one time a math class used an e-textbook they NEVER stopped complaining about it all year long.
  25. LOL, it's a fun hijack, though. I've been home sick for two days and found some old codeine in a cupboard this morning, so I'm not exactly detail-oriented today.
