Fortunately it didn't make much of a difference Yesterday, except for the icy conditions on some of the steeps. The crowds were surprisingly very thin. Now next weekend I'm getting there for 7:30 each day to get after it, because it's going to be a zoo.

Jackson Hole stoke thread...2015-16!!!
saltyant replied to GrilledSteezeSandwich's topic in General Chat
Ok thanks. First I have to learn how to ski moguls at Camelback, so it might be a few years before I start leaping off cliffs at JH. -
Just read that someone was severely injured on it in 2000. I was very surprised they make you sign a waiver to ride the new mountain coaster.

Her point was that the two HSQs are not being loaded to maximum efficiency... I think? -

I was just Googling "is Jackson Hole good for intermediates" and trying to figure out what the hell their trail map means. What's a double blue? I can't believe they didn't groom Corbet' Couloir tonight. -

In all seriousness, I hope your knee is ok. People drive me nuts when they can't do something as simple as get on and off a chairlift. -

Correction: Corbet's Couloir. I think I should at least know how to spell it right before even thinking about trying it. -

Ok. My GoPro video of them would be: you see them for one second, and then they're gone. -

I can't wait to read Steeze's TRs from Jackson Hole. Are you guys really doing Corbet's Colour? I'm watching a video on it right now. -
I'd like to practice moguls, but I don't currently have any opportunities. Maybe someday. I keep working on short radius turns, and I can execute them on most blue slopes, but on blacks and steep blues I gain too much speed to make short turns in rapid succession.

Just send a complaint to Blue and ask for a $20 a gift card, or to demo the 3rd pair, or else. -
No idea. I'm sure someone on here can give a solid explanation. I'm just seeing how long my "rad" tag lasts today.

I'm really surprised they wouldn't at least let you take out a 3rd pair to demo on another day. Did you ask them that? -
Don't worry, you'll get there pretty soon. I think you need 800 posts or something, and soon you'll be at my level. I remember back to the gold old days when I was "Good Form". I'll never reach "Gold Medalist" like GrilledSteezeSandwich, but a guy can still aspire to great accomplishments, right?

Eagle Rock. The first year there was fun because the manager would let people do whatever, like ski while working and snowtube down the black diamond. Then the last 2 years the manager was very strict, and told me I wasn't even allowed to ski on my lunch break. Last year I worked there 1 day and quit because he wouldn't give me any time to ski period, had me scheduled open to close every day. I'm not missing anything. This Saturday was their first day, and they had 2 green trails open which have 179 feet of vertical, or less than the top of Blue down to Vista chair. -
Thanks. Let Matt Edge know that they got the mountain coaster up and running. I saw them inspecting it this morning from the Stevenson Lift, and also testing some empty mountain coaster cars. Also, someone told me that they might put a ski trail in where the old alpine toboggan sled is, underneath the Sullivan Lift. That way Camelback will have a trail like Lower Sidewinder at Blue. Make sure you inform Matt Edge of this great news, and let him know about the moguls starting to form on Cliffhanger.

That's completely ridiculous. It's not your responsibility to ensure there's an attendant at the lift, that's their responsibility. There is supposed to be someone standing there at all times when a lift is operating. They aren't supposed to sit in the shack and hit the slow button when someone shows up, or yell at people to wait. I was a lift attendant for 2 years, and I would always be outside next to the lift when someone was coming. I worked with some real lazy people who would stay in the shack during their turn, and it always annoyed me. If I were you I would send a complaint to Shawnee management. -
Another rad day at Camelback. I missed First Trax for the second day in a row, since my bed was just too comfortable to get after it. I decided on a late start and arrived at 10:51. Surprisingly, there were plenty of parking spaces available near the Nastar Glen Lodge, so I was pretty stoked about that. First run of the day was on Pocono Raceway. I aimed to practice carving and making wide "S" turns, but unfortunately the race teams took up half of Pocono Raceway, and also half of Rhododendron Glen, which is a trail nearly identical to Pocono Raceway. That was a little disappointing, since it would be better for most people (i.e. me) if they set up two racecourses on just one trail, and then left the other one empty for the general public. Then I moved on to do a few runs on Cliffhanger, which was mad steezy and started forming tiny moguls (good news for all you mogul lovers). I find that moguls make runs unnecessarily difficult, so I then went to other black diamonds, and found The ASP and Marjie's to be in surprisingly excellent shape, a stark comparison to last night's ice fest on those two trails. The Rocket was fairly icy, but The Hump (opened this Saturday) was terrible! Practically nothing but wall to wall ice, with just a few small patches of sugary snow here and there. The express lifts were operating better than last night, with far fewer stoppages. A worker explained they recently installed new cable on both express lifts, and because the cable is stretching, or something, a cable tension checking monitor keeps shutting down the lift. I have no idea why it can take several minutes to restart a lift because of that, but apparently the stoppages are forecasted to continue for the next one to two weeks. Well, another successful day at Camelback, and I remembered to include some discussion of skiing in a skiing trip report today. If anyone of you is interested in what I ate, I'll provide full details.

The express lifts at Camelback kept stopping all weekend long. It was really irritating. I started riding the fixed grip lifts just to not deal with the constant stopping. So it's not just you, I think express lifts break down a lot in general. -

That's a damn shame. Delaware was my favorite trail there. Poor boarders, I would bomb the last hill and just barely make it back to the lift because the run off is so long. -
Just had a $5 hamburger. Delicious! I'll admit lodge food can be really good, despite the prices were forced to pay due to convenience. CB is pretty rad today. I plan to do an actual ski trip report later today at the request of Steeze.

Hypothermia??? Oh come on ! I'm practically burning up here at CB because I overdressed. Now last night I had to quit early because I got sick of the cold by 8 pm. That's awesome that Blue blew some freshies Last night. That must have been sa weet. I'm not sure if CB blew snow last night or not but it's much better than it was last night. -
I'm going again tomorrow morning for First Trax. I would have rather done 2 morning/afternoon sessions back-to-back, instead of night and then morning.

True dat, as SallyCat said in some thread today. I was skiing so well last weekend when I went out 4 days in a row, and tonight I just wasn't doing as well. But like you said, the conditions weren't the greatest. I thought the snow would have retained its packed powder qualities from last weekend, since there was no warm up or rain, but I guess that's not how it works.

Nah man. I need a lesson or something. My skiing was horrible tonight. I just keep skidding on the ice. I guess I'm becoming a terminal intermediate. Oh well.
