I am just trying to learn skiing safety from the master, GrilledSteezeSandwich, and become more aware of the various hazards that I may encounter while traversing down slopes at modest speeds.
-
Which part? Any reason?
-
Strike two? I don't even get a strike one? I don't consider it "reckless behavior" because I am in complete control at all times. Do the moose bite or eat skiers like the monster in SkiFree?
-
Thanks! That looks handy. I've been taking my boots in the lodge to change, and I still haven't figured out how to carry skis, poles, and boots at the same time. I think this might solve my problem.
-
Ok. So if I'm going 50+ mph I should be able to stop in time if a deer jumps out? Why does that warrant four dings instead of one... or none??

At my home mountain, [ski resort name redacted due to incorrect thread], there is a serious deer problem. When I was bombing Marjie's the other day, I was somewhat concerned that one would run across the bottom of the piste and I would be toast. Fortunately I made it out unscathed.
-
Thanks, I think I might do that next time. Nothing sucks more than walking far in ski boots while carrying all that equipment.

I don't know, man, speeding on ice sounds dangerous. What if a deer runs out in front of me and I can't stop because my edges don't grip the ice? I think the shop sharpened them when I took them for a tune-up, but I'm not sure. I've been living dangerously as it is, because I did not get a binding test this year.

The high in Palmerton was 48 today. Didn't that help to soften it up?

I bought 3 discounted lift tickets for BC. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. At least they're refundable. Maybe I'll try to go once next week if it gets cold out.
-
It was pretty devastating. That gift card will be buried in the snow until next winter because Camelback made so much snow that they're buried in it.
-
You can, just don't be dumb like me and lose your gift card on the lift.

I find ice fun, to an extent. But when I'm on a black diamond that's just all ice, I feel like I'm going to skid down sideways at 50+ MPH. But if there are small piles of sugar snow, it can be fun to ski from pile to pile.
-
You guys mentioned "icy death". I'm ok with regular ice, but death ice is a no go. Remember, I'm still on entry level skis that don't edge well. An ice patch here or there doesn't scare me, but when the whole slope is ice that's kind of scary.

I think I'm getting 170's. I'm on 168's right now. Unless conditions improve by tomorrow, I think I'll pass on skiing until Sunday morning.

Say hi to Robert2 for me. I am strongly considering finally purchasing Volkl RTMs this weekend - probably Saturday since it's going to rain non-stop and it will be a boring day.
-
False advertising! If I drive all the way up there and there's no packed powder, I'm asking for a refund. Disclaimer: just kidding (in case I get flamed).
-
Just a few inches, but enough to make drive back to Rutland treacherous. I like being in my comfort zone. It's comfortable. The bunny slope there is probably the equivalent of the most challenging slope at Blue.

I can't come today. Tomorrow works better for me. The temperatures are much more favorable today, and they'll groom all the bare spots I guess.
-
Do they groom the trails in Jackson Hole? I'm not used to skiing trails that aren't groomed. Rutland, but one night I stayed at the Mountain Inn nearby because of a snow storm. The Mountain Inn is very affordable at $100 a night or something and was a really nice hotel for the price. The coffee machine in my room wouldn't work, and the staff was kind enough to bring me a functional coffee maker. The only downside was my car got stuck in the parking lot after the snowstorm due to the abysmal stock Hankook tires that came with my car. I upgraded to much better tires afterwards, so now I'll be able to traverse the snow-covered terrain of Vermont with ease.

Theres a distinct possibility I will be there Thursday night.

I went 3 days in a row and parked at Snowshed each day. I was a gaper back then and liked to warm up on the easy hills first before venturing out into the vast mountain. Now that I can ski like a boss I will park at either Rams or K1. I think I'll hit Killington one day this year after Stowe.
-
I'm surprised an expert like you would park at Ramshead. Isn't that for n00bs? Killington was my first real mountain and I absolutely loved it. One of the best weeks of my life. I was amazed that Great Eastern is over 3 miles long and took 11 minutes to get down. It's fun just taking random trails and not knowing where you're going to end up.

I always park at Snowshed. Snowshed is the coolest place to park.
