  1. Don't forget to check out the first part of our SHOWDOWN competition series, a slopestyle competition this Thursday at 6pm. Registration will take place from 4:30-5:30 at Guest Services. The cost to register is $10 (and you need either a valid season pass or lift ticket), but you will get a free t-shirt just for participating. The competition will take place in Black Bear Park. Divisions for the competition are Women, 12 & Under, Novice Snowboarder, Novice Skier, Intermediate Snowboarder, Expert Snowboarder and Expert Skier. Prizes for the SHOWDOWN series include over $7,500 in Gift Certificates from Pinnacle Sports and The Ski Bum, boards from Palmer, skis from Atomic and Rossignol, certificates for PredatorWear jackets and other prizes from sponsors including Burton and Flow. See you there!
  2. Yes, the competition is open to both skiers and riders. Registration will take place from 4:30-5:30 and the event starts at 6. Let me know if you have any other questions!
  3. We're going to try making snow both tonight and tomorrow night. After that, it doesn't look like the weather will be cooperating with us...
  4. NASTER is only held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for now. If something changes, I will certainly let you know!
  5. Bear Creek will be holding a public forum on Tuesday night at 8:30pm in the banquet room. The design of our Park is based largely on the input of our local freeskiers and riders, so come share your thoughts with our Park Crew, Groomers and Management staff.
  6. Yup, we'll be doing it every Tuesday and Wednesday night until the end of the season.
  7. Just want to let everyone know that NASTAR begins tonight, Wednesday. Registration starts at 6:30pm and racing takes place from 7-9pm. The cost is $2 for one run, $5 for two runs (plus a medal) or $10 for unlimited runs.
  8. I feel like I need to clear some things up, because PAsucks has his facts completly wrong. Let's start with some info about our groomers. We have five, including a Bombardier with a terrain park package and a new 2004 Pisten Bully with a terrain park package. We also have a new 2004 Zaugg that we use to cut the halfpipe, which is state-of-the-art in the industry. As far as our terrain park features, we build 90% of them in house. Also, as far as national media attention, in just the past few months we were listed in both Freeskier and incorrectly listed in Transworld. And let's not forget that we were the mountain chosen to be featured on Viva la Bam last season, which brought international attention to our resort. We are also hosting a bunch of competitions in our parks this season, including our own SHOWDOWN series, two MASS competitions and a JEEP King of the Mountain qualifier.
  9. Just to clear things up, Bear Creek opened with all trails but two on opening day, Polar Bear and Timberline. Also, Sasquatch was closed for part of the day. We should be 100% open by the end of the week.
  10. Bear Creek does offer discounted packages for beginners. The Burton Learn to Ride program costs $45 on weekends/holidays and includes a lift ticket for the beginner surface lift and E chair lift, a snowboard rental and a 1 1/2 hour group lesson.
  11. Hello, I am sorry to hear that you were dissapointed with Bear Creek yesterday. We do require lift tickets for anyone who is on the snow at our resort, regardless of whether or not you use any lifts. It works like an admission ticket and also serves as a liability release for the guests. Also, our beginner E chair lift was running, which does serve the beginner trails. In addition, we do post our conditions report at each ticket window which lists each trail and chair lift that is operating, as well as online and at various locations throughout our facility. Our ticket window employees do not go over the list of open lifts and trails with each guests for this reason, however they are more than willing to answer any questions that you may have. Again, I am sorry to hear that you were dissapointed with your visit, but I hope that I have helped to explain our policies to you. I hope that you and your girlfriend will give us another chance in the future. Please feel free to contact me directly at maryb@skibearcreek.com or 1-866-SKI-AT-BC x351 with any other concerns you may have. Thank you, Mary Bortz Public Relations Manager
  12. Some of you may have already heard that snowtubing won't be open for another few weeks until we get the parts for our new magic carpet. So in the meantime, since we've got plently of snow in that area, it looks like there may be a new terrain park....
  13. We should be 100% open within a week of Saturday.
  14. Bear Creek will be opening for the season on Saturday, December 10th at 8:30 am. At this point, it looks like everything will be open except for Timberline, Polar Bear, Cub Run and parts of Broadway.
  15. Bear Creek is planning to open within the next 5-7 days. We're hoping to make a final decision on the day tomorrow (Tuesday). I'll annouce the date here as soon as we decide.
  16. I hope to see everyone up at Bear Creek on opening day. (We'll be making a final decision on opening day within the next hour or so and I will let you know as soon as I hear.) However, just to clarify, I am not able to provide lift tickets to PSAR members for opening day. I've had quite a few people ask me about the offer that was posted in this forum. That offer was for the person who didn't think Bear Creek was a valuable mountain and didn't believe that we would have 95% of our mountain ready on opening day. Again, sorry for any confusion.
  17. Yes, I work full time here as the Public Relations Manager. We've been very busy with weddings, banquets and our restaurant over the summer. And yes, I was in charge of the whole Viva La Bam filming. It was great national exposure for Bear Creek and I don't regret having them here, but we certainly won't be doing it again!
  18. The video is a great idea. However, at this time it is not something we can run through the Bear Creek website. (We're redesigning our entire site at the end of the season though, so we can probably incorporate it for next year.) However, we will be linking to the Bear Creek forum here from our Terrain Park page, so maybe you could put the videos on this site. What do you think?
  19. Doug, My invite was for opening day so that I can personally show you that Bear Creek will have the majority of thr mountain open. I can't send you a voucher to use on any day. However, if there is a day that you're planning on visiting (that's not a weekend), let me know and I'll see if I can leave a ticket for you.
  20. Doug, I'm glad to hear that you're going to take me up on the offer and give Bear Creek a try. I think you'll be impressed with how much we have ready on opening day. PM me your full name and address so I can leave you a ticket at Guest Services for opening day. You'll need to show ID to get it.
  21. As the Public Relations Manager at Bear Creek, I promise you that Bear Creek did in fact open on December 19th with 95% of our mountain open. And yes, we are very proud of our snowmaking system here at the mountain. I would like to personally invite you to come out on opening day (I'll leave you a lift ticket at Guest Services) and let you see for yourself how far Bear Creek has come. Let me know if you want to take me up on that offer.
  22. I'm not on here to argue Blue Mountain versus Bear Creek. I've said in the past that I have respect for all of the other mountains in the industry. If Blue Mountain opened a day or two earlier than us last year, then I apologize, I had my information wrong. However, Bear Creek did open with 95% of our trails. If there are some of you out there that don't like Bear Creek and don't appreciate how far we've come in the past 7 years, that's fine. We can't please everyone, no matter how hard we try. However, for those of you who are Bear Creek fans, we appreciate your support and look forward to our best season yet with our awesome snowmaking capabilities and our second-to-none base facilities.
  23. If you would like, go back and check the records from any reputable snow reporting organization. Bear Creek opened last season on the 19th of December and stayed open until Easter Sunday, which was March 27th. I assure you that I am not making up lies about Bear Creek.
  24. Just to clarify.... Bear Creek didn't start blowing snow as early as some other mountains, but that doesn't mean we don't know what we're doing. It only takes us 4-5 days to have enough snow to open because we have more snowguns per acre than any other mountain in PA. And we don't open with just one or two trails, we open 90-95% of the mountain. Also, last year Bear Creek was the first to open and the last to close for the season. We were also the only mountain (other than Seven Springs) to not close during the January warm spell last winter. I think these examples show that the staff here does know what they're doing, so please don't worry that we won't have enough snow to open early enough for a great season.
  25. Ok guys, Here is the official word from Bear Creek. We attempted to make snow Saturday night, but it just wasn't the right condidtions. So the plan now is to start blowing snow later this week (when the temperature drops) and keep the guns on for a few days so we can develop a good base. I don't want to make any promises, but if everything works out, we theoretically could open as early as December 1st!
